2 Подробное описание основных этапов урока From Popov's first Radio Receiver to cosmic radio communication and computer May 7th is celebrated in our country as Radio day, because Popov gave a working demonstration of the first radio receiver, in the world on that day. Now radio-engineering, electronics and television are finding increasing application in the economy, transport and medicine. The automation of industrial processes, of heat and power stations, remote control and management, the development of electronic computers and cybernetic systems - all this is possible because of the achievements of electronics. Computers were first introduced in the 1940's and 50's. They were large in size and not very convenient for use. Presently they are smaller in size and have more resources than previous one's. Now they are used not only at factories, plants, offices, but at the personal use too. The first operating system was DOS (disc operating system). Now Windows is mostly used. Windows comes supplied with a few of its own handy programs. There's а word-processing program called Write, a drawing program - Paintbrush, a communication program called Terminal for connecting to outside information services over phone lines, small utility programs that are helpful for keeping track of appointments and notes, a couple of games to help you escape from your work and a few others.
The main parts of the system There are many hard and software pieces in a computer system. The large metal box is called the case. The case and its contents (power supply, system board, etc.) is called the system unit. You communicate with your computer with the keyboard, mouse and monitor. With the help of them, you type information to be processed and stored.
The keyboard Many of the keys on the keyboard are letter keys, punctuation keys, shift keys, tab, and the spacebar. Your keyboard also has many specialized keys.
The mouse The mouse works by sliding it around on a flat surface. The mouse does not work if you hold it in the air. As you glide the mouse you will see the arrow on your screen. The arrow is called a pointer.
The monitor The monitor displays text characters and graphics. It allows you to see the results of the work going on inside your system unit.
The hard drive The hard disc drive is inside the computers case. Hard drives hold a lot of data.
CD-ROM Computer also has CD drive. It can play music CD's as well as read software program CD's and the new Kodak photo CD's. 1) Be ready working with text. Listen to the text very attentively, you will hear it only once. 2) Analytical reading of the text: a) find in the text the following phrases and sentences: e.g. Первый радиоприемник; сейчас радиотехника и электроника находят все возрастающее применение в экономике, транспорте и медицине; развитие электронных компьютеров и кибернетических систем – все это возможно благодаря достижениям электроники, etc; b) translate into Russian: e.g. – The main parts of the system; - the mouse works by sliding it around on the flat surface. You communicate with your computer with the help of keyboard, monitor and the mouse (so on, so forth); c) let’s analyze the text from the point of view of grammar. Are there any Participles I or II in the text? Now find in the text Passive constructions! Well-done! d) Will you analyze the text from the point of view of Lexicology. Find in the text internationalisms, words of Greek and Latin origin? e) Answer my questions on the text: What is celebrated in our country on the 7th of May? Are radio–engineering, electronics and television finding increasing application in the economy, transport and medicine? When computers were first introduced? What does DOS abbreviation mean? What is more used now DOS or Windows? What is windows supplied with? (a lot of handy programmes) How can you work with a mouse? What is the Terminal used for? f) Now your questions? : Who will answer this question?
g) correct me or approve me! Use the expressions: “Yes, you are right!“ or “No, you are wrong !”. - the main parts of the system unit are: radio receiver and T.V.; - the mouse works by holding it in the air; - the keyboard has many specialized keys; - the hard disk is outside the computer’s case; - hard drives hold a very few data; - you can’t play music CD’s and read new Kodak photo CD’ on your computer; h) prove that… - the first computers were inconvenient; - windows are now mostly used, why? - computer system is complex; - monitor is a very important part of the system; - that hard drive is very important too; - CD-ROM has many functions; i) now name the: - keys of the keyboard; - the contents of the system unit; - handy programs of the Windows; - the advantages of new computers;
j) match the parts of the sentences: - popov gave a working demonstration of… - windows comes supplied with… - a communication program called Terminal is used for… - many keys on the keyboard are… - you communicate with you computer… - CD drive can play… - hard drives hold… - the monitor displays… - the mouse works by… - the large metal box is called… - …key hoard, mouse and a monitor. - …the first radio receiver. - …text characters and graphics. - …connecting to outside information services over phone lines. - …a case. - …a lot of data. - …a few of its handy programmes. - …letter keys, punctuation keys, shift keys, tab and space bar. - …music CD’s. - …sliding it around on a flat surface.
