Preface I wrote this book to help guide and assist commanders, subordinates, and family memb ers in praying for themselves, each other, and the mission that lay before us. On April 3, 2002, I assumed command of Medical Troop (Company), Regimental Support Squadron, 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment, then located in Fort Polk, Louisiana. As the troop commander I was directly responsible for the lives of close to 100 soldiers and their overall health, welfare, morale, training, and ultimate combat readiness. To me serving in combat was always a possibility, but never an actual reality, especially while I was in command. Sure, I took my responsibilities as commander very seriously. I ensured that our unit was indeed ready for combat operations, and we completed training exercise after training exercise. We ensured all of our supplies and equipment were to standard, and we ensured all personnel were prepared administratively for possible future deployment. Yet, even with all that 6
preparation,I was not truly mentally and spiritually prepared for the possibility of actual combat. To be honest, I often thought about what it would be like to serve in combat.I daydreamed of the glory and honor of serving this great nation in battle while at the same time dismissing the childish daydreams thinking they would never come true. I realized that I commanded a highly deployable unit that had never missed a major engagement, and I realized that the nation itself was fully en ga ged in a war on terror, but somehow I still had myself convinced that we wouldn’t see one day of combat. I believed if we did, it would be at the end when everything was said and done. But by February, during the initial stages of Operation Iraqi Freedom, it became clear that was about to change. The 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment was given the order to prepare to deploy to Iraq in order to support and relieve coalition forces already engaged in combat. In March the actual deployment order was given, and by May we were in Iraq facing full-scale combat operations. 7
This book is a product of that preparation for combat. Since I have already admitted I wasn’t really mentally and spiritually prepared to conduct combat operations, I’ll also admit that when the order was given to deploy I was filled with a rush of emotions and anxieties. The most dominant feeling was fear. In fact, for a moment I was consumed with fear and absolutely terrified to face combat while commanding 100 soldiers. Yet, I knew I could not afford to show my soldiers the fear and concerns haunting my thoughts less my soldiers would lose confidence and trust in my abilities to lead them safely into battle and safely home. So, instead of sharing my anxieties with my superiors, peers, or subordinates, I decided to talk them over with God. Soon I began handwriting prayers that I could pray over and over again, prayers that represent every request or concern I had regarding combat. I purposely wrote them as situational prayers that could be used repeatedly depending on the circumstances around me. These prayers that flowed out of my heart to my heavenly Father helped me cast all of my cares on Him and gain a true realization of how much 8
He cares for His children. These prayers helped me to turn fear into courage and much more. Not only that, but God answered every prayer request in this book. And, as a result, I did not lose a single soldier in combat due to fatality. I’m sharing with you the prayers that brought all of us safely through 15 months of combat operations. May they bless you as well—whether you’re a leader, a subordinate, or a family member. God bless every man or woman who defends our great nation.

Prayers for Commanders 1
The Call 1 Father, I was put here to command this troop, in this squadron, in this regiment, at this post, and during this time. Never in my wildest imagination did I expect to command in battle. And yet, Father, You have taught me You never put more on us than we can bear. So, that tells me You have found me justified, worthy, and able to fulfill this role. I thank You for this immense responsibility and the opportunity to serve You so You can receive glory from my service. I thank You for Your divine power that has given me everything I need to succeed. Father, I thank You for all of Your great and precious promises so that through them I can participate in your divine nature or purposes and escape the corruption of the world. I’ll make every effort to add to my faith goodness, to goodness knowledge, to knowledge self control, to self control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. You 11
promised that if I possess and keep these qualities in increasing measures they would keep me from being ineffective and unproductive. Therefore, I am eager to make my calling and election sure. For You promised if I do all of these things I will never fail or fall short, receiving a rich welcome in the heavenly kingdom. So help me, Father, to live a life worthy of the calling You have placed on my life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Scripture References 1 Corinthians 10:13,2 Peter 1:10

Controlling Fear 1 Father God, I thank You and praise You for another beautiful day that You have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it. Father, the order has been given and we’re preparing to go to war. I’m terrified at the reality that I’m going to experience combat for the very first time. Even now, I have to admit there are times when I feel fear creeping up in me trying to take control of me and make me an ineffective leader. But, Lord, You know as a commander of troopers I cannot afford to show fear in front of my soldiers or they will lose confidence in my ability to lead them. So I continue to resist fear in Jesus’ name. I also realize it’s important for a person in combat to have a heightened sense of awareness—to be sharp, alert, and keen. My prayer, Lord,is that You help me control my fear so I can do my job as a commander, lead my soldiers into battle, and return all of them home safely. 13
You have not given me the spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind. So instead of fear clouding my thoughts and judgment, I thank You, Father, for clarity and soundness of mind to make quick but wise decisions on the battlefield. I am Your child born into Your kingdom; I don’t have the spirit of fear but the Spirit of You. You have provided me with Your perfect love, Father, and Your perfect love will cast out all fear from me. I plead Psalm 91 over myself and my soldiers so that my unit is protected. Under your wings shall I trust. You are our shield and buckler. We will not fear the bullets that fly by day nor the destruction that may fall all around us. Although some may fall in battle, that fate will not come to my unit. No evil will befall us because You give Your angels charge over us to keep us protected in all of our ways. I will not be shaken when sudden fear tries to come upon me because You are my confidence and shall keep me from being taken. Lord, I put my trust in You; therefore, I will not be afraid because man can do nothing to me that I don’t allow to happen. Although I may walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil because You are with me 14
and will comfort me in battle. Lord, Your Word says that if You are for us, who can be against us. Regardless of what happens, I know that You love me,I am more than a conqueror in You, and nothing will keep me from Your love.I thank You that the peace that passes all understanding sweeps over me. I will not fear nor be troubled. Lord, You are my salvation and light. You are my strength. Whom do I have to fear? I will fear no one on earth. Although my enemy may be all around me, I will not fear. The confidence of the Lord is in me. Lord, I say with all boldness that You are my Helper, and because You are my Helper, I will not fear what man can do to me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Bless Me With Competent Soldiers 1 Lord, I thank You for every soldier You’ve placed under my command, and I thank You that every one of them is competent, knowledgeable, and understands how to do his or her job. I thank You for blessing my soldiers with the natural skills they possess. And now I ask that even beyond their natural skills that You add supernatural abilities to them so they can fully carry out every duty in combat. Help me to train and teach my soldiers so I add to their knowledge and they accomplish everything they’re called forward to do. Give my soldiers the foresight to understand orders from myself and higher ups before we even articulate them, and give my soldiers the initiative to follow through with each order. Day after day and night after night let my soldiers display their knowledge and skills. Lord, I ask You to give my soldiers the will to seek self16
improvement. Dear Father, cause them to be drawn to read books related to their field of study so they will learn techniques to better equip them to perform their combat mission. Father, cause my soldiers to be filled with knowledge, add to their knowledge, and let them grow in even more knowledge. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Give Me Courage 1 Lord, give me courage and strengthen my heart. It’s easy for me to ask this, Father, because I truly believe You are with me wherever I go. You are with me when I pass over the waters to the desert. You are with me when I enter the firefight, and I believe You protect me so that no round will hit my soldiers or me,nor will we be burned, wounded, or harmed in any way. Lord, my confession is that I won’t fear nor be dismayed because I know You are my God and You will strengthen me. Help me and hold me in Your right hand of righteousness. You are my refuge, and I have faith that You will expose our enemy before us so we may obtain victory. I hold firm to the faith that we will live and not die. Father, thank You for Your courage and confidence to accomplish my mission, for Your Word says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Father, my hope is in You and You alone. And as long as my hope is in You, my heart is strengthened and of good courage. 18
Lord, I will do my best to wait on You before making a command decision when at all possible. I will wait on You to renew my strength so that I can run and not grow weary, and so I can walk and not faint. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Increase My Confidence 1 Lord, increase my confidence in front of my soldiers—I’ll need it in the time of war. Let my soldiers respond favorably to the divine confidence that You place in me, and help me to speak and command boldly as I ought to. Father, with Your help I will be confident in everything I do because You have called me to this position, at this time, for this purpose. You have begun Your good and perfect work in me so I can be the leader You have called me to be. I have confidence in battle because I’m more than a conqueror in You and because You love me. I don’t conquer by my own might, but by Your Spirit, dear Father. I am confident in all things because of You, including that You hear every single one of my requests. I believe because You hear me, You will grant me whatever I ask according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. 20

Anoint My Leadership 1 Lord, help me to lead my soldiers. Heighten and sharpen my leadership skills. Help me to exude leadership in all areas of command. Help me to always take the moral high ground when it comes to my soldiers. Help me to defend my soldiers from immoral and unethical orders. Help me defend them from knee-jerk reactions and abuse from higher command. Help me to provide them the proper training, knowledge, and skills needed to survive, fight, and win. Help us to accomplish our combat mission, which is saving lives on the battlefield. Help me to balance the time spent training and accomplishing our combat mission, with the time needed for necessary rest and relaxation. Help my troopers to truly know my voice, listen, and follow, as I know Your voice, listen, and follow. 22
Let me truly come to know my troopers and their strengths and weakness, both personal and professional. Lord, I thank You for unity and teamwork as we face combat together. I bind dissension and individualism that could tear my unit apart. Help me to always lead my soldiers from the front, never from the rear—and never in a cowardly manner. Help me to maintain 100% accountability of my soldiers. Let me return from combat with the same number of soldiers I’m deployed with. Help me to protect my soldiers from the enemy in foreign lands. Lord, let Your divine protection be on all of us as we face potential and unknown danger around the corner. Help me to recognize when my soldiers are in danger. And when we face danger, show us how to eliminate or reduce it. Lord, be my strength in the face of my weakness.Only You can strengthen the weak, but help me to encourage them when they begin to falter. And help us not to become weary in well doing. 23
Help me to be faithful to my soldiers so they will trust me wholeheartedly in battle. Cause me to stand stalwart and fearless in front of my soldiers, and unselfish and considerate to all those with whom I serve. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Scripture References Numbers 11, Psalm 26:1, Psalm 25:21

Balance Command Responsibility With Christian Responsibility 1 Father, help me to balance my role as a commander with fulfilling my responsibility as a Christian. As I serve as a commander, help me to preach the Gospel to every soldier in a manner he or she can receive it. Allow me and help me to preach the Gospel unto the uttermost parts of the earth, and help me to be a light for my soldiers. I’ll do my best to let my light shine before my soldiers so they may see my good works, and so You may be glorified in heaven. Help me to show true Christian compassion for my fellow soldiers, Father. When they hunger let me feed them, when they thirst let me give them drink, if they need shelter let me take them in,if they are naked let me clothe them, if they are sick let me visit them, and if they are in prison let me go to them. Lord, I thank You for being just and not forgetting my works. Thank You for not forgetting the 25
love that I show to my soldiers and the love I will continue to show them. Your Word says for us to carry each other’s burdens. So, Lord, show me whose burden You want me to carry. If there should be a soldier lost in combat, send me to minister to the spouse and orphans. Open up opportunities for me to do good to all people, especially those who belong to the family of believers. Help me not to love in words only but also in deeds, because Your Word commands us to love one another. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Give Me Wisdom 1 Lord, grant me wisdom and knowledge to lead these soldiers. Your Word promises that if I la ck wisdom, I can ask You for wisdom and You wil l give it generously. Well, Lord, I ask right now for all the wisdom necessary to lead my soldiers so that we deploy and redeploy in the most efficient manner possible. And I ask for Your wisdom to lead them into battle in the safest manner possible so I may return them all home safely. Glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,I ask and thank You for giving me the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I may know You better. Lord, let the eyes of my heart be opened so I will know what You have called me to be, to know, and to do. Father, I understand that Your Spirit is given to us for our common good. And, Lord, I thank You for resting upon me any gift of the Spirit needed to reach victory—whether that be the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, special faith, or the discerning of spirits. For we wrestle not against 27
flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms. Father, help me to see my enemy so no man deceives me. Help me not to worry beforehand about how I will defend myself, for You will give me the words and the wisdom that my adversaries cannot resist or contradict. Lord, favor me with the wisdom of Joseph, Solomon, and Jesus so I may foresee coming problems and determine the wisest course of action to overcome and resolve the problem, just as I thank You for the skills and wisdom You’ve already given me to deal with such matters. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Disciplining My Soldiers 1 Lord, first of all, I ask for the determination and discipline of Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of my faith. Thank You for Jesus who set the example of discipline by enduring hardship and opposition from sinful men. Jesus inspires me to not grow weary and lose heart. Thank You, Father, for Your words of encouragement addressed to me as Your son or daughter. I won’t take Your discipline lightly, nor will I lose heart when You rebuke and discipline me because You discipline those You love. Father, Your Word teaches me out of discipline comes respect, meaning I respect those who discipline me. I have great respect for You because You discipline me daily, and in like manner help me to discipline my soldiers so they will respect me. Your discipline is for my good so I may share in Your holiness. Father, I understand that no 29
discipline seems pleasant at the time, but instead is painful. However, later it produces a harvest of righteousness, peace, obedience, and understanding. Thank You that Your discipline produces obedience and understanding in me. I’m truly grateful that Your rod of discipline drives out the foolishness in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Successful Decision Making 1 Father, I ask for clarity of mind to make sound decisions in garrison and in combat to lead this unit and every soldier under my command. Your Word tells me that You are not the author of confusion, and You have given us the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Therefore, I cast down the spirit of envy and strife that may be in or around me. And I thank You that I walk in the wisdom that comes from above that is pure, peaceful, gentle, easily entreated, full of mercy, full of good fruit, and without partiality and hypocrisy. Father, I believe You will always help me so I’m not confounded in any situation. I t rust with all my mind, heart, and soul that You will direct my ways by instructing me and teaching me the way I should go and in the way I should lead. Guide me with Your divine eyes so I’m not limited by my own vision. 31
Thank You for Your peace and Your Word that direct my actions so those around me don’t offend me. Father, help me to hear Your words directing me to go this way or that way, and telling me to turn right or left, for in doing so we will succeed at every task and mission.Thank You for leading us to make sound decisions that lead us to victory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

One Unit Under God 1 Lord, I ask for the spirit of unity to rest upon my unit. Let us work together in harmony with one another, being sympathetic, loving as brothers and sisters, being compassionate, and humbling ourselves. Let us not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but let us bless one another. Lord, I want our unit to see good days so help us to keep our tongues from evil.I pray for those who would do evil, that You change their hearts to do good. Let us seek peace between each other and continually preserve it. Lord, You have taught me that it is good and pleasant when brothers work together in unity. Help us to make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bonds of peace. Father, we are one unit, with one Spirit, under one Lord, who is over all, through all, and in all. Lord, You have blessed me with this unit; therefore, let there be no division so that all members have equal concern for each other. When one soldier suffers, let the whole unit suffer 33
with that soldier. If one soldier is honored, let the whole unit rejoice with that soldier. Lord, You have taught me that as long as we are united, nothing shall be impossible to us. Thank You that we’re one unit under God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Comfort for Family Members 1 Lord, comfort my family members and the family members of every soldier in this unit while we are separated. Thank You for being a God of compassion and comfort to all, and thank You that Your Word promises to comfort us in our troubles so we may comfort others. Help the families of my soldiers to understand that it is necessary we go to war and face danger to secure their freedom and serve our nation. When their families are distressed, dear Father, we ask You to comfort them as they endure separation and inspire their patience until each family is reunited with its loved one. May each family find comfort in Your written Word, for it was written to teach and encourage us that we might have hope. Above all, Father, let the families of my soldiers draw together in fellowship to comfort 35
and encourage each other. Surround them with good friendships and good fellowship. We also pray, Father, that You comfort the families when they are overcome by sorrow, when they find no rest, when they experience conflicts, and if they experience fear. We put our trust in You,knowing that You are with the loved ones of each soldier at all times and through all things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Loyal and Willing Workers 1 Lord, I pray that my subordinates respect me with sincere hearts, just as they respect and obey You. I pray they not only obey me to win my favor when my eyes are watching them, but they are willing workers for You, doing the will of God from their hearts. Father, I pray that my subordinates serve wholeheartedly as if they were serving You—not me. You’re the One who ultimately rewards them for the good they do. Help me to treat my subordinates with the love of Christ and the resp ect they deserve.I will not threaten them since I know You are their Master and mine, and You have no favorites. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture References 1 Peter 2:13-18, Colossians 3:22-25, Titus 2: 9-10, Ephesians 6: 9
37
Wait on the Lord 1 Lord, order my steps and direct my path; lead and guide me now and always. Help me to do what is right. Help me to walk according to Your will. Father, I will make every attempt to discipline myself to wait on You and Your instruction. I will discipline myself not to make decisions until I consult You first and wait to hear Your answer. I’ll wait on You, Lord, and be of good courage, and in doing so You will strengthen my heart.I’ll discipline my mind (soul) to wait only on You, for my expectation and desires are from You and in You. Lord,I will wait to hear from You, because when You answer me and instruct me, You also equip me and help me fulfill Your instruction. Father, I understand fully that when I try to do things on my own,I become weary, tired, and lose strength until I am completely exhausted and ineffective. However, if I wait on You, You shall renew my strength, and that means I’ll run and not grow weary; I’ll walk and not faint. 38
Father, I will hold fast to the profession of my faith without wavering because I know You are faithful to fulfill all of Your promises, and that’s why I rest my confidence in You. I’ll wait on You because I know You always come through in due season, and in the end I’ll be totally satisfied with the outcome. Father, I wait on You because my hope is in Your Word, and ultimately my confession will be that I have waited for You and You saved me. You are the Lord, and I have waited for You and rejoice in the salvation You provide me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Council of Wisdom 1 Lord, I pray You surround me with wise council so I’ll make wise decisions. I’m humble enough to readily admit when I need help, and I admit I don’t always have the right answers for every situation. That’s why I’m grateful for Your smart, wise council around me to help me see the right answers that lie before me. Father, Your Word says for lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure. Therefore, surround me with those smart and wise advisors to ensure victory by accomplishing our missions in battle. Your Word also says plans fail for lack of council, but with many advisors they succeed. Help me to ensure success by reminding me not to plan in a vacuum, but rather to use the resources and personnel you have placed around me to help me and guide me. Your Word also says, dear Father, that it’s not good for a man to work alone because he will eventually wear himself out and the load may be 40
too heavy to handle alone. This tells me that You’ve ordained help and assistance, and therefore, please surround me with capable helpers who fear and reverence You. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture References Proverb 11:14, Proverb 10:22, Exodus 18:13-27

Living a Godly Life 1 Lord, I will train and discipline myself to be godly because I fully understand how important it is. It doesn’t matter how much I accomplish here on earth; godliness is still valued over all things, holding promises for my present life and the life to come. Lord, help me to command and teach my soldiers these things as well. I won’t let anyone look down on me because I am young, but rather I will set the example for my soldiers in speech, in life,in love,in faith, and in purity. And I won’t ne glect the gifts You have generously given to me. Instead, I’ll be diligent in all matters concerning godliness and give myself wholeheartedly to them so everyone may see my progress and the progress of my unit. Lord, I’ll continue in all of Your ways because Your Word promises not only to save me, but to save those around me, too. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 42

Protect My Soldiers 1 Lord, as we enter into combat we ask for Your continuous protection, and we thank You for not letting our feet slip into harm’s way. Thank You for watching over us now and always, and thank You for being our shade so the sun does not harm us by day nor the moon by night. Thank You for watching over our lives and for watching over our comings and goings now and forevermore. Father, just as You were with Joshua and Moses during the days of old, be with us now so no one can stand before us. Father, we won’t fear because You are with us. We won’t be dismayed because You are God. Father, I thank You that You will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us with Your g reat, mighty, and righteous right hand from which no one can snatch us out. Father, I thank You for Your protection from the evil one. If You weren’t on our side when our enemies attacked and their anger flared up against us, then our enemies might well swallow 44
us up alive. But, dear Father, we praise You for not letting hurt, harm, or dang er fall on us. You are the very Maker of heaven and earth, and yet so gracious to help us. Thank You for being our shelter in high places—our refuge and our fortress. Father, I completely trust You. You will save us from our enemy and protect us from the deadly pestilence. You are our shield. We won’t fear combat because You are with us. A thousand may fall to our right and ten thousand to our left, but no harm will befall us because You are God—our very protection. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture References Psalm 121, Joshua 1:5, Isaiah 41:10, John 10: 28-30,2 Thessalonians 3:3, Psalm 124:1-3, Psalm 91

Preserve the Health of My Soldiers 1 Lord, I pray above all things that my soldiers may prosper and be in health. May the healing power of Jesus Christ flow right now into my soldiers and heal them from any and every sickness or disease that would prevent them from meeting the physical demands of serving in the military, especially during combat. Dear Father, just as You answered the prayer of the centurion who petitioned You to heal his sick servant simply by Your spoken word, I believe You will touch and heal my soldiers today so they’re filled with great health and maintain excellent physical condition. My soldiers are healed by the stripes of Jesus. I count on this work being done because the Bible promises that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Lord, You said You will restore our health and heal us of our wounds. And now we pray You keep us healthy. We thank You, Father, for life 46
and health in Your Word and through Your Son, Jesus Christ. You promised that my prayer of faith shall save the sick and that I can lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Lord, I’m so grateful for Your healing touch on my soldiers. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Farewell 1 The time has come for me to end my charge as commander of this awesome unit. As I leave, I take time to reflect. Soldiers, you have seen everything the Lord has allowed you to accomplish for your sake and for His glory. It was, is, and will continue to be the Lord who fights for you. I pray the Lord will continue to drive out all the obstacles in your way to allow you to accomplish every mission you set your hands to in further training, combat, and life. Continue to be strong, and continue to do what is right. Continue to keep your e yes on the prize. Do not associate yourselves with those who do not share your dreams and visions of perfection, for in the end they will tear you down. Instead, continue to hold fast and strive for the prize, which is perfection. God has given you the ability to accomplish any mission, and e ven to this day, there has not 48
been a mission able to withstand your determination to succeed. God bless you all!

Prayers for Soldiers 1
We Are Blessed and Highly Favored 1 Father, favor us to succeed in whatever we put our hands to do. Bless us to succeed here on earth, and bless us in heavenly realms, for we are chosen according to Your will. I have faith that You will fulfill all o f Your promises in Your Word and You will prosper us to succeed in combat. Thank You, Father, that You know what we need before we even ask or think it. Thank You that Your Word promises if we put You and Your kingdom first we will succeed. Lord, You command us to be strong and very courageous, and You command us to obey Your Word. You promised that if we obey Your Word, we will succeed wherever we go because You are with us. What good news that is! Father, help us to focus on mission accomplishment. Help us to forget past mistakes and hurts. Help us to forget current sufferings we may be going through, and help us to look toward the 51
victory that lies ahead. Help us press toward the mark and accomplish our goal—what You have called us to do. Help us to not get weary in well doing nor give up, for in due season we will reap a harvest. In Jesus’ name we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Amen. Safety and Protection 1 Dear Father, I believe You have directed me to serve this great nation, and I’m proud to do it. I’m also confident that where You’ve assigned me, You will protect me. I thank You that I’m covered by the blood of Jesus and protected from any and every sort of harm and danger in every step I take and every order I follow. Your angels go before me, surround me, and follow me with Your loving care. No matter what may happen on the left or the right, you keep me safe. A thousand may fall, but I will not be one of them because Your mighty hand protects me. I will go to battle, and I will return from battle. Dear Father, Your Word promises to satisfy me with long life, and I thank You for it. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture References Psalm 91
53
Standing Strong Against Fear 1 Father, the very idea of combat is enough to make many people fear. But I will not be one of them because You have not given me the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. Fear is most certainly from the devil, and Your Word says I can resist the devil and he will flee from me. Therefore, now, in Jesus’ mighty name I take authority over fear and thoughts that lead to fear, and I resist them. I cast down negative thoughts and imaginations, and I refuse to think them. In fact, I take no thought at all for tomorrow because I’m confident that You, dear Lord, will take care of me. I serve You, Father, and my country in confidence, in courage, and in peace. Scripture References 2 Timothy 1:7,2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Matthew 6:31, James 4:7
54
Peace in the Midst of Chaos 1 Father, thank You for peace in the midst of chaos, and thank You for peace even in the midst of storms that loom overhead. We’re grateful for Your Word assuring us that You have already provided us with Your peace, and therefore, we should not be troubled or afraid. I thank You that peace—Your peace— passes all understanding and rests in our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ. Thank You, Lord, for ordaining peace for us. We will go into battle with joy and be led into combat with peace. Help me, Father, to be spiritually minded, even though many of those around me may be carnally minded. I ask this because Your Word promises life and peace to a spiritually minded person. Thank You for peaceful rest and for helping us to follow after things that create peace and allow us to live perfect in Your sight. Thank You for 55
comfort, and thank You for helping us live peacefully with one another. Above all, thank You for being the God of peace and love, now and always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Clarity of Mind 1 Father, I ask for clarity of mind to make sound decisions in garrison and in combat. Father, I believe You will always help me so I’m not confounded. I trust with all my mind, heart, and soul that You will direct my ways by instructing me and teaching me the way I should go. Guide me with Your divine eyes so I’m not limited by my own vision. Thank You for Your peace and Your Word that direct my actions so those around me don’t offend me. Father, help me to hear Your words 57
directing me to go this way or that, and telling me to turn right or left. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Comfort for Our Families 1 Lord, comfort my family members while we are separated from each other. I praise You for being a God of compassion and comfort to all, and I thank You that Your Word promises to comfort us in all of our troubles so we may comfort others with the comfort we have received from You. Help our families to understand that we go to war and face danger to secure their freedom and serve our nati on . When our families are distressed, dear Father, comfort them as they endure separation, and inspire their patience until we reunite. May our families find comfort in Your written Word, for it was written to teach and encourage us that we might have hope. Above all, Father, let our families draw together in f ellowship to comfort and encourage 59
each other. Surround our families with good friendships and good fellowship. We also pray, Father, that You comfort our families when they are overcome by sorrow. Comfort our families when they find no rest; comfort them when they experience conflicts; and comfort them if they experience fear. We put our trust in You,knowing You are with our loved ones at all times and through all things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Let Me Remain in Your Perfect Will 1 Father, instruct me and teach me the way I should go. Your Word remains a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I go where Your will, Your wisdom, Your commandments, and Your teaching lead me. When I sleep they keep me safe, and when I wake they speak to me, for the reproof of instruction is the way of life. Lord, Your Word will not depart from my mouth, but I will meditate on it day and night. I will walk in it. I will make decisions based on all that is written in Your Word. And if I do, You will make my way prosperous and I will experience good success. Father, You’re my Guide. Your Word says that to man belongs the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue. This tells me that it is okay for me to have plans and desires for myself, but before I do anything I must check with You to make sure I’m following Your will. I 61
understand that although my ways or plans seem innocent to me, You’re the One who ultimately judges my motives. Father, Your Word promises that if I commit to You whatever I’m doing, my plans will succeed. I also understand that ultimately Your will prevails, so determine my steps in the planning process and ultimately determine my steps in the execution of the plan. Lord, Your Word says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. So I believe I’m a good man and You’re ordering my steps. Even if I stumble along the way I will not fall because You’re holding me in Your hand. You are my rock and my fortress. I will trust You with all of my heart and not lean unto my own understanding. I acknowledge You in all of my ways, and I ask You to direct my path. You are the Lord that teaches me to succeed. You are the One who teaches me in the way I should go. Father, You promised to guide me continually. You promised to satisfy me in the midst of the drought and make fat my bones. You said I would be like a spring of water whose waters fail not. 62
Thank You, Father, that Your Spirit of Truth is come and is willing to lead me every moment of every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bless My Leaders 1 Dear Lord, You command us to pray, intercede, and give thanks for everyone who has leadership and authority over us so we may live quiet and peaceful lives in all godliness and holiness. So, Father, I do intercede on their behalf. Give us good leaders—noble, fair, courageous, and honorable leaders who stand and fight along with us. Give them courage to make the hard, right choice over the easy, wrong choice. Anoint their leadership so we have complete confidence in their ability to obtain decisive victory on the battlefield. Bless them with Your divine wisdom to make sound decisions. Bless them with clarity of mind so they may wait to hear Your voice—whether they recognize it or not—before making any decisions affecting soldiers. Bless my commanders and my unit with a spirit of unity. Protect our leaders from all hurt, harm, or danger—seen or unseen. Loose Your angels to surround them with protection, and 64
bless them with uncommon technical and tactical competence. Father, I submit to those who have autho rity over me because Your Word commands me to. For there is no authority except that which You’ve established, and I acknowledge that those who have authority over me are ordained and established by You. I will not rebel against those who have authority over me, because in doing so I bring judgment on myself as if I rebelled against You, dear Father. I’m confident in Your Word that promises my boss will hold no terror for me as long as I do what is right. Regardless, these are Your servants, and I submit to their authority. I will give everyone in authority respect and honor. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture References 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Romans 13:1-7,1 Peter 2:13-25

Equip Me for Battle 1 Father, I want to be strong in You and in the power of Your migh t ;t h erefore, I put on the whole armor of God so I can stand against the devil. I understand my struggle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, powers of darkness, and the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms. Therefore, I put on the whole armor of God so that when the day of evil comes I will be able to stand my ground. I’ll stand with the belt of truth around my waist, the breastplate of righteousness firmly in place, and my feet fitted with the gospel of peace. I will hold up the shield of faith to protect me from the flaming arrows of the evil one. I will pick up the helmet of salvation and sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. And I’ll continue to pray in the Spirit on all occasions and in every situation for myself and other soldiers of the Lord. It’s because of Your supernatural armor that I’m on alert and ready for battle. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 66

Bless Our Enemies 1 Lord, help us show kindness to our enemy the same way David continued to show kindness to Saul, even though Saul was intent on killing him. I will not rejoice at the destruction of them that hate me nor boast when evil finds them. Neither will I let my mouth sin by wishing a curse on them. Lord, we won’t avenge ourselves nor give place to wrath because Your Word promises that revenge is Yours and You will repay. Therefore, when our enemies are hungry we’ll still make provisions for them to eat, and when they’re thirsty we’ll make provision for them to drink. I will not be overcome with evil but with good. Father, Your Word says to do good to those that hate me. You command me to love my enemy, so I love my enemy with the love of the Lord. Lord, instead of cursing their lives, I pray that You bless their lives and bless them more abundantly. I will make every effort to treat others the way I want to be treated. Father, we will continually 68
forgive our enemies just as You continually forgive us, and I will continually pray for our enemies. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Give Me Strength 1 Lord, strengthen me so I am strong enough to handle every responsibility You’ve placed on me. I’ll be strong and courageous because You’re with me. I’ll not be afraid because I’m Your beloved ,a n d You give me peace and command me to be strong. I’ll walk in the strength You give me. If I become weary, strengthen me according to Your Word. Father, even though I am quiet, I will be strong because my strength and confidence are in You. I pray that out of Your glorious riches You will strengthen my inner being with power through Your Spirit. Strengthen me with all power according to Your glorious might so I may have great endurance, patience, and joy. I’ll give thanks to You, Father, who have qualified me to share in the inheritance with the saints in the kingdom of light. Father, I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. You are the One who gives strength to the weary and power to the weak so 70
none stumble or fall.I love You, Lord; You are the everlasting God and Creator of the world. But even more personally, You are my strength, my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer. I Live To Please You 1 Dear Lord, I heed Your every instruction and commandment so that I may please You with my life. I try my best to avoid immorality and control my flesh so that it is holy and honorable. I acknowledge that You have called me to live a holy life, free from impurity. Thank You for Your Discipline 1 Lord, I ask for the determination and discipline of Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of my faith. Your discipline is for my good so I may share in Your holiness. Father, I understand that no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but instead is painful. However, later it produces a harvest of righteousness, peace, obedience, and understanding. Thank You that Your discipline produces obedience and understanding in me. I’m truly grateful that Your rod of discipline drives out the foolishness in me. 75
I understand, Father, that my commander has charge of me and may on occasion need to discipline me for the welfare of myself and my unit. I understand that in the true chain of command, that he is acting by Your orders. I will submit to him and receive his discipline as if it were from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Live by the Spirit 1 Help me, dear L ord, to live by the Spirit so I don’t give in to the desires of the flesh or my sinful nature. My sinful nature only wants what is contrary to the Spirit, and that causes my nature and my spirit to war against each other. But my desire, Lord,is to continually be led by the Holy Spirit. I purpose not to give in to the sinful nature of immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft (rebellion), hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, and the like. Living like this would mean I could not inherit the kingdom of God. Instead, Lord, I want to live a life that is totally in the Spirit filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I crucify my sinful nature and commit to living in the spirit, where I will continually walk. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 77

Help 1 I cry aloud to You, Lord. I lift up my voice to You for mercy. I pour out my complaint before You; I tell You my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You who know my ways. I cry to You, O Lord. I say You are my refuge. You are my portion in the land of the living. Listen to my cry for I’m in desperate need. Rescue me from those who pursue me. Set me free from my prison that I may praise Your name. Then righteousness will gather about me because of Your goodness to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bless My Toil 1 Lord, I love life because the work I do pleases me even though it’s sometimes hard .I ’m pleased with the work I have done and the work I am doing. I pray that I leave every assignment better than the way I received it, and that I remain ever conscious of the one who will continue the task after me. I pray that the person to follow will be wise and not foolish—and able to build upon and improve the assignment I’ve poured my effort, heart, and skill into. My heart is pleased as I reflect over my toil, for to complete the job I’ve utilized the wisdom, knowledge, and skill You’ve blessed me with, and I’m confident and comfortable with what I leave behind. Even though various assignments are sometimes hard and painful, I don’t consider them meaningless. Rather, I consider them joyful and rewarding. Your Word teaches me it’s a blessing from You to find satisfaction in work because 80
it’s You I serve and without You I have no joy and fulfillment. Lord,I work to please You because Your Word promises You’ll give me wisdom, knowledge, and happiness. Do not let me toil in vain. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Scripture Reference Ecclesiastes 2:17-26

Conquering Fear and Negative Thoughts 1 Father God, the t emptation to think negative thoughts, to worry, and even to fear is great at times while my loved one is away. But I know that I cannot be in faith and fear at the same time. So, with a heart full of faith in Your promises of protection,I rebuke the spirit of fear. God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. I resist the devil, his fear, his thoughts, and his negativity in Jesus’ mighty name. That means the devil must flee. I take captive thoughts that would try to disrupt my peace. I cast down thoughts and imaginations and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the promises of Your Word. I won’t take them. I won’t think them.I turn them down cold in Jesus’ name. Father, I roll all of my cares on You because You care for us. I trust You with the care and 88

Prayer for Government Officials 1 Our nation’s leaders determine when and where our soldiers do battle and dispatch them to war. Therefore, Father, we pray that every U.S. citizen is inspired to thoughtfully vote leaders into office who seek after You and make wise decisions. May the true allegiances of candidates be clear to us. May we elect men and women who choose what’s good and right over what is good politics. We thank You, Father, for godly leaders in every office fr om local to national level. We pray these elected officials see clearly and that the eyes of their understanding are enlightened by You so that they understand right from wrong, moral from immoral, and ethical from unethical. In turn, we also pray for the hierarchy in our armed services that good, noble, strong, and wise leaders are positioned from the top to the bottom. Lord, You position men and women according to Your plans and purposes. 90
And as our nation humbles itself before You, Father God, we trust that from sea to shining sea You will set our course, guide our outcome, and determine our successful future. We rej oi ce to call ours elves one nati on under God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Time is Now! We are living in a time of action! America needs prayer now more than ever. God’s promise is simple: If the church will humbly seek His face, He will revive our nation. Join countless others in this campaign to reclaim our country through prayer. Pray for Our Nation will enrich your prayer life as you intercede for our heritage and future with prayers: For the Economy For the Supreme Court For the Educational System For National Protection For the Military And much more! If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked way; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (2 Chron.7:14).
