Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter One James Williams sat at the bar, nursing his second beer of the night. He took a shallow swig and thought about getting home. He wasn’t sure why he hung out here, anyway. Incognito was a great place, and the price of beer was reasonable—it should be seeing how much he dropped last month for a year’s membership—but it wasn’t doing him much good. He still hadn’t met anyone he clicked with. Anyone that could make him feel the way he wanted to feel. He turned a bit on the stool and looked across the room to the only man who made him...tingle. Not that Soren had ever paid him any mind. James figured he wasn’t Soren’s type. As usual, a lithe, young male stray slave sat at the table with Soren. James was not lithe, young or a slave. Though he would love for a man like Soren to take the reins and show him what it was like... Soren looked up from the slave just then and caught James staring at him. Shit. He swiveled toward the bar and wished he could crawl under it. He might not be a slave, but he knew better than to break cardinal law in this place and openly stare at a Dom. And Soren was one of the biggest, baddest looking Doms in the club. James took another swig of his beer and let out a slow breath. He should just go home and make sure Pop was okay. He hated leaving his grandfather with a babysitter, but he did need a night out now and then, didn’t he? Deserved one once a week?
5
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Justifying it didn’t take away the guilt. He downed the last, warming swallow from the beer bottle and, ready to take his leave, laid a bill on the bar and nodded at Tyrone. The beefy bartender returned the gesture then said, “Don’t look now, but here he comes.” “Who?” James turned and came face‐to‐face, practically nose‐to‐ nose, with the object of his lust. He swallowed hard and dropped his gaze, as a good sub should do. “Every Friday night for the past month I’ve see you staring at me,” Soren said, his voice low, gravelly, and sexy as hell. “Yes, Sir,” James answered, keeping his voice even and strong. He mustn’t show that he was terrified he’d insulted the man. He knew the rules of Incognito and wasn’t sure he was up to a lashing if he’d offended a Dom of Soren’s caliber. James hadn’t realized that Soren had noticed him watching before tonight. Soren leaned in until his muscled pecs almost touched James’ chest. “Why?” The man was built better than any Greek god. James stared at the well‐formed chest and abs revealed by the open leather vest. His hair, the color of fall wheat, looked silky. He had a tattoo of a red and black dragon on his left arm from shoulder to forearm. His biceps were the size of small trees. His thighs, encased in tight leather pants... “Answer me,” Soren said, his voice a low growl. James swallowed. “I’m sorry, Sir, if I offended you. You are...” Beautiful. Amazing. Everything I’ve ever dreamed of. “...hard to resist.” A shiver scooted up James’ spine at Soren’s soft chuckle. “Come with me.” When Soren turned and headed down the hallway leading to the voyeur rooms, James’ heart almost leaped from his chest in excitement. In fear. Dear God, was he ready for this? Could he? Soren stopped and turned back, one eyebrow raised in question. James didn’t hesitate. He’d be a moron to pass up this opportunity. One he’d been fantasizing about since he saw Soren for the first time. When James reached him, Soren flipped the brass sign to Occupied
6
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton and pushed open the door to one of Incognito’s many voyeur rooms. He’d only been in a couple, and this one was different. He almost laughed at the absurdity of it set up like a stable with bales of hay and wooden walls. “Kneel,” Soren said, his tone almost whip‐like. The door shut, and James heard the lock turn. He took another deep breath, turned to face Soren, and dropped to his knees. He bowed his head and folded his hands together behind his back. Thank God for the Internet and everything one can learn there. Certain things were expected on which even Incognito’s long list of rules didn’t expound. Such as how to present oneself to a Dom. The sound of a zipper rasped in the silence. “Suck my cock,” Soren said. James’ own arousal spiked in an instant at the command, and he raised his head enough to see Soren’s half‐erect cock. Even semi soft it was long and thick. Excitement expanded, and James leaned forward far enough to carefully take Soren’s length into his mouth. Though he hadn’t given many blowjobs, he knew what he liked and tried to mimic what would make him come hard and fast. Light suction, a swirling tongue, the slightest grazing of teeth on the ultra‐ sensitive underside. Soren groaned, and his cock turned rock hard in the span of a heartbeat. Yes! James sucked him in deep, inhaling Soren’s musky spice scent. When Soren’s hands went into his hair and gripped, James almost came in his pants. He pleased Soren. Wanting—needing—to touch him, James pulled his hands from behind his back and cupped Soren’s sac. With the other he stroked the length of Soren’s cock, while with his mouth he paid extra attention to the soft, silky head. Soren grunted, and James looked up. The man’s eyes were closed, his jaw clenched, his cheeks slashed with the heat of lust. James groaned, and Soren flexed his hips, sending his cock deep into James’ mouth. He took him as far as he could, flexing his throat and sucking. The hot flesh between his lips grew even harder, even longer.
7
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James panted through his nose and gave his all to please this man. Soren’s shallow thrusts set the pace, and James obliged. Rolling Soren’s testicles in his palm, he felt them lift and harden. Soren was about to come. Soren’s hands tightened in his hair until it was almost painful. He groaned and pumped his hips harder, making his cock hit the back of James’ throat. James thrilled at the perceived power he had over this amazing man. And then Soren growled and stopped moving, his body tightening. Hot cum spurt into his mouth, and he swallowed it all. Soren thrust once more, and James sucked gently, then licked him clean as Soren’s cock slowly softened. Soren’s hands grew gentle on his head, turning the tight pulling into a soft caress. “Good job, slave,” Soren said then pulled back and tucked himself back into his pants. Disappointment closed in on him as he sat back on his heels and bowed his head. “I’m not a slave,” he said, at the last second adding, “Sir.” Soren’s choice in him had obviously been a mistake. “Huh. You suck cock like a slave. What? You think you’re someone’s pet?” Soren’s zipper rasped again. Nausea rolled through James’ stomach. Yeah. He wanted to be someone’s pet. He wanted to be pampered and cherished and... Fuck it all. He wasn’t going to find what he needed in this place. He’d been so sure that joining Incognito would be the answer to his prayers. That here, around other people like him, he could find...something. But it wasn’t going to happen. He didn’t fit the norm. And he sure as hell wasn’t anyone’s slave. A twenty‐dollar bill floated down to the floor in front of him, and he frowned. Soren’s heavy boots thudded on the wooden floor as he moved toward the door. “Buy yourself a drink. You earned it. If I wanted a pet, I’d buy a goddamned dog.” * * * * * Soren stopped near the bar and dropped his head forward. Fucking
8
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton son of a bitch. Could he be a bigger bastard? What the hell had he done to the poor guy? The man had been so eager to please, though. And he had. That had been one of the best blowjobs he’d ever had. He didn’t even know the guy’s name, but he’d seen the man for weeks. He was almost as tall as Soren, and his sad eyes had called to him. He was a refreshing change from the small, simpering slaves who constantly threw themselves at him. But Soren wasn’t looking for anything more than a BJ and the occasional fuck. Sad eyes had no place in his life. Tall, sexy men had nothing for him anymore. They caused too much heartache. A hard shove to his shoulder blade caught him off guard, and he stumbled into the end of the bar. “What the...?” He turned to see the dark‐ haired, sad‐eyed man. He didn’t look so sad now. He looked mad enough to kill. The guy held the twenty in front of Soren’s face. His jaw clenched once, his nostrils flared. “If this is all you think I’m worth, then—” “Back off, sub.” Soren leaned in, getting in the guy’s face. Yeah, he’d been an asshole, but he wasn’t going to take any shit from a sub. Period. End of discussion. Between clenched teeth he practically growled, “I’m not your sub.” “You had my dick in your mouth, and you liked it.” The guy took a swing, fast and hard, but Soren ducked it and pulled away from the bar so he had more room to maneuver. The sub might be equal in height to him, but he outweighed the guy by at least fifty pounds, all of it muscle. He didn’t want to physically hurt the guy. By the sub’s second swing, Tyrone was rounding the bar, going for the guy. Soren raised his arm to block the blow and was surprised by the sub’s strength. Good damn thing Soren was big and fast, or he’d be flat on his ass. Before the sub could pull back for a third time, Tyrone’s beefy hands came down on the man’s shoulders. “James, damn it, what’s gotten into you?” Dalton, co‐owner of the club, came running from the front foyer,
9
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton ready to add his muscle to break up a fight. But Soren had no will to fight. James jerked free of Tyrone’s grip and glared at Soren. He cast a quick glance at Dalton. “I’m sorry, Sir,” he said to Dalton. Then he tossed the twenty on the floor at Soren’s feet and pushed past with a hard shove. Dalton went to grab the sub, but Soren stopped him. “Let him go.” Dalton frowned at him. “What happened?” Tyrone went back behind the bar. “Want a drink, Soren?” Soren bent and picked up the bill, nodded, then slid onto a barstool. Dalton took the one next to him. Once Tyrone had set the beer in front of him, he sighed. Dalton was a renowned psychologist. He knew his shit—Soren had read a couple of his award‐winning books on alternative lifestyle. Maybe he could help. Dalton beat him to the punch. “It’s been over a year since Vance left you.” Soren frowned. Did everyone know his business? “Yeah,” was all he said. “It’s okay to mourn a loss,” Dalton continued, “but you can’t let it eat you alive, and you can’t let it make you...” He tipped his head toward the front door where James, the sub, had exited. “...hurt other people because you’re pissed off.” He hadn’t offended the sub because he was pissed off; he’d done it because he was terrified. He’d wanted to pull James into his arms and kiss him. Wanted to know why his baby blue eyes looked so filled with hurt. Wanted to take away his sadness and make it better. Wondered if James had love to give. Rather than revealing his deepest thoughts, he said, “You’re right.” Dalton motioned for Tyrone to give him a drink. To Soren he said, “Come talk to me any time.” He stood and took the scotch Tyrone set on the bar. “My office is always open.” Soren nodded and tipped the bottle to take a long pull of the beer. He didn’t want to talk about his past. Didn’t want to think about Vance and how the man had ripped his heart out. Someone he’d thought he’d spend the rest of his life with. But Vance had found an even richer sugar daddy and hadn’t been able to pack his bags fast enough.
10
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren doubted that he’d ever find anyone who could touch his heart again. And if he did, he’d probably offend them just so they went away and wanted nothing to do with him. * * * * * “Hey, Jenny,” James said as he tossed his keys on the kitchen counter. “How’s Pop?” His grandfather’s sitter, a sixteen‐year‐old from down the street, smiled and opened the fridge. “He’s been waiting for you to get home. He wants to play gin, and he refuses to play with me.” She tossed a small pizza box on the counter. “We ordered in. There’s some leftovers for you, if you’re hungry.” “Thanks.” Eating was the furthest thing from his mind. His stomach still felt queasy from the earlier altercation and the crushing blow to his already battered ego. Jenny picked her small purse off the counter and slung it over her shoulder. “You okay, Mr. Williams?” He nodded and forced a smile as he pulled his wallet from his back jeans pocket. “I’m good.” He extracted a twenty and passed it to her. “Thanks.” “No prob. Pop napped during Law & Order, so I got my studying done.” James found his first smile. Pop loved Law & Order, but he hardly ever stayed awake to see a whole episode. Not that he’d remember, anyway. His smile slipped. “Have a good night, Jenny. And thanks again.” She gave a jaunty little wave as she went out the kitchen door. James headed into the living room. Pop sat in his wheelchair pulled up to a card table, the cards already dealt. “Hey, Pop.” Pop scowled, his bushy white eyebrows almost touching over his big nose. James sat down across from him. “Got any money?” Shit. James closed his eyes for a moment. When Pop asked that
11
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton question, it meant his mind was on a vacation. James dug into his jeans again, this time pulling out a dime he always made sure he kept there. “Here.” He laid the coin on the table. “It’s all I’ve got.” Pop’s craggy face split into a child‐like grin as he snatched up the coin and held it against his chest like a prize. “I’ll go to Marney’s tomorrow and get a chocolate.” “We’ll go together,” James said. He lived in fear that one day Pop would actually get out of the house alone. Some days he was lucid, knew his age and what year it was. He watched the news and read the newspapers. Then some days... Sometimes, like flicking a light switch, his brain just shorted out, and he thought he was a child again. Marney’s went out of business in 1945, when Pop was twenty years old. “Hey, Pop,” he said, pushing to his feet. “How about I go get a few cookies and some milk, and we can snack and watch Leno?” Pop grinned. “Cookies.” James rounded behind Pop and pulled his wheel chair around to face the television. Pop could walk, he wasn’t crippled, but he had bad arthritis in his knees and, in the evenings, walking became difficult. But Pop liked his walks. So every morning before James left for work, he took Pop for a short walk to the corner store, and they got their morning coffee. Feeling the need for the human contact, he stood behind his grandfather, hands on the old man’s slumped shoulders. “I love you, Pop.” “Cookies.” “Right.” James bit back the curse clawing at his throat.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Two James sipped his triple shot latte as he ambled next to Pop on the way back to the house the next morning. He yawned and scratched the back of his neck. He hadn’t slept worth shit the night before and wished he could crawl back into bed for the next six or seven hours. That, however, was not an option. “You look like crap, son,” Pop said, giving James a sidelong glance. “Aren’t you sleeping?” Pop was lucid this morning, a nice change over the scene that had played out between midnight and two the previous night when Pop acted like a two‐year‐old being put down for a nap. The good thing, James figured, was that Pop had no recollection of his childish antics. Shoot me dead if I get that way, James thought as he patted Pop on the shoulder. “Just not enough sleep last night. That’s all. I’ll be fine once the caffeine kicks in.” “You were out last night, weren’t you?” “Mmm hmm.” James took another sip of the scalding brew. “You meet yourself a woman yet? You been single too long.” Two years, eight months and twenty‐five days, but who was keeping track? And he wasn’t interested in finding a woman. Hell, after last night... I give up. “What about Jenny? She’s got a nice rack. And when she bends over in them tight jeans—” “Pop! She’s sixteen. Jeez.” James ran his hand through his hair.
13
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “God, Pop. Don’t you dare make any comments like that, or I’ll have to find someone else to sit with you when I go out.” Pop shrugged. “In my day, sixteen—” “A lot has changed since your day, Pop. That’s illegal now, okay?” He might be considered a pervert, but what he did in private wasn’t against the law. He shuddered at just the thought of what could happen if Jenny thought he— “Can’t help if she bends over in them tight pants...” Mental note: Ask Jenny to wear looser pants when she comes over. “You need you a wife, son,” Pop continued, as if James wasn’t having a minor stroke over his last comments. “It’s not right a man your age be alone.” “I’m not that old.” “Thirty‐five is too old to be alone. You have needs. Every man has needs.” Too bad a wife couldn’t take care of those needs. “I think single is safer for me, Pop. You know what happened to my marriage.” “She was a bitch.” It wasn’t worth arguing over. James drained the rest of the coffee as they approached the front door to their house. It wasn’t Peggy’s fault the marriage had failed. He was the one who... “Pop. Peggy’s a good woman. Things just didn’t work out between us.” He pulled the keys from his pocket, but Pop grabbed his arm and stopped him from unlocking the door. “I don’t know what happened between you two, but I know how miserable you’ve been since she walked out. Whatever she did, she hurt you, and in my eyes that makes her a bitch.” “Pop—” “Did you cheat on her?” James shook his head, though he knew that the secret he kept from her for over ten years of their marriage was worse than any affair he could have had. “Did you hit her or hurt her in any way?” Again James shook his head, but he knew he’d hurt her worse than
14
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton imaginable. But Pop wouldn’t understand. Pop was from old school. Men like James were beat up, lynched, hanged in Pop’s time. Hell, he’d heard his own father make dark, disparaging remarks about queers and fags. “Then you need to just get over her,” Pop said. “Get over her, move on, and find yourself a nice, sweet woman who accepts you for who you are, which is a good, honest, hardworking man.” James could only nod. What could he say? He turned and unlocked the door. “Come on, Pop. Gloria will be here in about ten minutes. And I have some extra paperwork I’ve got to get done this morning, so I need to go in on time.” Pop shuffled past him through the open door. “You listen to me, boy. I know what I’m talking about.” James shut the door and headed for the kitchen to make Pop’s breakfast. He appreciated his grandfather’s gentle heart, but Pop had no idea what he was talking about. Even so, it was nice to have a champion in his corner once in a while. Even if Pop didn’t champion him for the right causes. * * * * * Soren gathered up the papers he’d been scanning, slipped them into his briefcase, and dropped a ten on the table when Chester Carson pulled up outside the café in his black Cadillac convertible. Chester had money, and he liked to show it off. As CEO to the second biggest hardware chain in the country, he had plenty to flaunt. He met Chester on the sidewalk and extended his hand. “Good afternoon, Mr. Carson.” The stout, balding man shook his hand but didn’t smile. Chester never smiled. Soren wasn’t sure why he’d been hired for this job, since Home Comfort Hardware had plenty of lawyers at their disposal. Chester had said something about hiring local help where they could, but it didn’t make a lot of sense to him. Who was he to argue, though? Home Comfort paid him three times his normal fee per hour.
15
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “That it?” Chester asked as he motioned toward the front of the hardware store across the street. “Yes, sir. Williams’ Hardware has been in business for over fifty years.” “I know. And the owner won’t take my calls. But we want that property. He’s got ideal space on a main thoroughfare. The size of the shop is perfect for one of our smaller stores, which is all we need since Home Depot was built in the next town.” Soren knew all the details. He’d read the prospectus written by the company’s acquisitions department, and he had personally drawn up the papers with the offer to buy Williams’ Hardware. As they crossed the street, Soren said, “If he won’t talk to you on the phone, he may not even consider the offer you had me draft.” Chester’s raised an eyebrow, and Soren didn’t like the evil glint in his eye. “You always start low in negotiation.” Soren pulled open the door to Williams’ Hardware and held it for Chester. “You’re the expert.” “That I am,” Chester said and strode into the store as if he already owned it. He approached the young man behind the counter and, saying he was from Home Comfort, asked to see James Williams. The handsome, twenty‐something cashier asked him to wait a minute then disappeared through a door behind the counter. When he came back out, followed by James Williams, Soren almost dropped his briefcase. James’ feet stopped moving, and he almost landed on his face. The last person he expected to ever see again stood in his store with that smarmy little man from Home Comfort who kept calling him. When he gathered his wits, he focused on the little, bald man and tried to ignore Soren who looked good enough to eat in a form‐fitting charcoal suit. He sure didn’t look the same as he did at the club, but he was as handsome as ever. Remember that he’s a prick. He was rude and treated you like shit. “Mr. Carson,” James said as he approached the counter. “I thought I made myself clear on the phone. I’m not selling my store. Not now, not
16
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton ever.” “I’ve had my lawyer draft up an offer I think you’ll find acceptable.” Chester Carson motioned toward Soren. Soren was a lawyer? Huh. James had always fantasized him into a blue‐collar job like construction. What with all the muscles and the tattoo. Maybe one of those guys that use the jackhammers. A brick layer. Soren laid his briefcase on the counter and opened it, withdrew a sheaf of papers, and tried handing them to James. James shoved his hands in his jeans pockets. “I’m not interested in your offer, Mr. Carson,” he said, desperately trying to ignore Soren’s big hand holding the papers out to him. Big hands that had been in his hair the other night, guiding him in sucking Soren’s thick, hot cock. He heard the echo of Soren’s pleasured grunts and groans. “Mr. Williams,” Mr. Carson said. “Just take a look at the offer. Give my lawyer a call if you change your mind.” Soren laid the papers on the counter and snapped his briefcase shut. Then he pulled a business card from inside his jacket and laid it on top of the offer. Finally, James looked up into Soren’s midnight blue eyes. Heat flamed in his cheeks. If he didn’t know better, he’d think Soren was reliving their brief moments together just a few nights ago. Before he made an ass of himself, he turned away and went back to his office. He wasn’t selling his store, and the last person he wanted to see was Soren. The asshole. So what if he was big and sexy and had tasted better than anything James had ever— “James?” He turned around to answer Aaron, his employee, but almost bumped into Soren. Aaron was behind Soren, his eyes wide. “Sorry, he just...” “Get out of my store,” James said between gritted teeth. Soren took up too much space, was too imposing. They might be of equal height, but Soren was a much bigger man. “I want to talk to you,” Soren said and took a step closer. James backed up into his office and rounded the small desk, putting it between them like a shield against Soren’s...whatever he had.
17
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Some weird power to make James feel...feel. Shit. Soren came into the cramped little office, shut the door behind him, then turned the lock. James’ heart thudded against his ribs. His crossed his arms and stood his ground. Whatever this man wanted of him, he was not going to give it. Not his store. Nothing. “Last year you barely broke even with this place. Why not sell?” James scowled. “No. Get out of my office. Out of my store.” “You do know that Home Comfort will move in. If not in your space, then somewhere else, and when that happens, you will be forced out of business. You know that, don’t you?” James gritted his teeth. He hadn’t thought of it that way, but it was true. How long could his little mom and pop operation stay in business? He’d taken a big hit because of the Home Depot opening up. If Home Comfort moved in, too, he was screwed. This store was his life, though. What was he supposed to do without it? It was all he had. “I’m not selling.” Soren sighed. “I think you’re making a big mistake.” James snorted. Like he hadn’t done enough of those lately? What was one more added to the list? Soren held up his hands as if in surrender. “All right. I guess your mind is made up.” “Damn right it is. If I were to sell, it wouldn’t be to the likes of Chester Carson.” Soren nodded, not looking pleased, his lips pressed tight and brows pulled together in a frown. God, he was gorgeous. His dark blond hair was pulled back and tied with a short strip of black leather. Very professional looking compared to his wild, untamed appearance at the club. He could still imagine Soren in a hard hat on a construction site, but the suit was impressive, too. Soren’s demeanor seemed to subtly shift. His pose relaxed a bit, and the hard edge to his midnight eyes softened. “About the other night.” “No.” James pointed at the door. “Get out.” No way in hell was he going to discuss the other night. It was over. End of discussion.
18
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “All right.” Soren turned and reached for the lock, but stopped, hand on the knob. “I’m sorry.” He looked over his shoulder and snared James’ gaze. “I’m sorry I acted the way I did.” Not wanting to feel any softening toward this man, James fisted his hands and glared. Soren had treated him like a fucking whore. No way in hell was he ever going to forgive the man. But when Soren turned around and came toward him, rounding the desk until they were practically toe‐to‐toe, James’ heart thudded too hard, and his breath seemed to stall in his lungs. He stood his ground, though. He wouldn’t show any weakness. He feared if he did, Soren would go in for the kill. Only James wasn’t sure he could deal with a personal attack again. On a professional level, he knew where he stood. When it came to his emotions, he wasn’t so strong. Soren stared into his eyes as if trying to reach his soul. James couldn’t look away. He wanted to. He wanted to turn and get away, but he couldn’t move. When Soren’s gaze moved from his eyes to his mouth, James couldn’t think anymore. The man was going to kiss him, and he’d never wanted anything more, damn his traitorous body...heart. No. No hearts. Soren was a prick. The only reason his heart was even in question was because of the abject loneliness he’d suffered for months. James plopped down in his office chair because he had nowhere else to go with the wall to his back and side, the desk to his other side and the mountain of a man in front of him. But he had to do something to break the intensity. To break the stare that was enough to make his skin feel too tight. To James’ absolute astonishment, Soren dropped to his knees in front of him and reached for his fly. He grabbed Soren’s wrists. “Hey. What do you think—” Soren didn’t say anything. Instead, he looked up into James’ eyes again, and he was lost. He saw Soren’s sincerity. Knew he was truly sorry for what he’d done the other night. And now... James’ cock throbbed to life at the thought of Soren sucking him off. He’d never had a blowjob by a man before, and the thought thrilled him. He wanted it. Badly. James released Soren’s hands and gripped the
19
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton armrests of the chair. Soren popped open James’ button fly with little more than the flick of his wrist, and then he was reaching inside, pulling down his briefs and gently extracting his already half‐hard cock. His breath came out in a whoosh, but when Soren leaned forward and took him in his mouth—all of him—he couldn’t breathe at all. Soren’s strong suck had him rock hard in an instant. He threw back his head and bit his tongue to stifle the groan clawing at his throat. God, he’d never felt anything so...perfect. His fingers ached from the grip he held on the armrests, but if he didn’t ground himself somehow, he wasn’t sure he’d survive the sweet torment. Thick, strong fingers flexed around his balls, and James’ hips thrust as if they had a will of their own. Soren took him in all the way, devouring his cock with each hot stroke. “Oh, God...” When he looked down, watched Soren’s beautiful head dip and bob, watched his dick repeatedly disappear into Soren’s mouth, he knew he wasn’t going to be able to hold back his climax much longer. He didn’t want to. Soren looked up just then, and he made a downward sweep and took James’ cock to the back of his throat. With eyes locked, Soren flexed his mouth and throat around James’ dick, squeezed his sac, and sucked hard. James came with a groan, never taking his gaze from Soren’s even when he thought he might pass out from the pain and pleasure of the strongest orgasm he’d ever experienced. The man swallowed every bit of his cum then licked him clean. He slumped back into the chair but kept hold of the armrests, afraid if he reached for Soren he’d make a fool of himself. Seeing this handsome man in an expensive, tailored suit on his knees before him, knowing what he’d just done, being the first man to ever have his mouth on his... It was all too much. Soren sat back on his heels and placed his hands on James’ thighs. “You okay?” James nodded, too afraid to speak.
20
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton After wiping the back of one hand across his mouth, Soren gave a small smile. “You’re looking a little shell‐shocked.” Again, James nodded. Soren caressed his thighs for a moment, and he couldn’t believe how that simple touch renewed the sizzle in his blood. Then Soren stood up, brushed off the knees of his suit pants, and then straightened his tie. “Meet me at the club tonight. Nine o’clock.” James shook his head. One sleek blond eyebrow rose in challenge. “Yes, you will.” He couldn’t. He only had Jenny one night a week, and he wasn’t going to call her on short notice. No way in hell was he leaving Pop home alone. Not even for this gorgeous man. Soren’s grin was cocky and a bit obnoxious. “Be there,” he said before turning toward the door. James opened his mouth to explain why he couldn’t go, but Soren was gone, his broad shoulders moving away down the short hall to the main part of the shop. Shit. James spun his chair, folded his arms on the desk, and dropped his head. What was he supposed to do? Pretend this hadn’t happened? Take it as an apology for the other night? Tit‐for‐tat and call it done? He’d decided after the episode at the club that he wouldn’t go back, he didn’t want to see Soren, and that whatever he needed to satisfy him couldn’t be found there. Well, Soren knew how to satisfy. But why the apology? Why the blowjob? The man obviously hadn’t known who he was when he walked into the store today. The look of surprise in his dark blue eyes was as evident, James was sure, as it had been on his own face. Four days ago Soren said he didn’t want a pet. Why would he want to meet at the club now? James sure as hell wasn’t anyone’s slave. He didn’t even know if he had it in him to be a pet. He wasn’t exactly the submissive type, or at least never had been in the past, but he wanted to feel a man inside him. He wanted to be dominated, at least sexually. But he didn’t want any of the rest of it. James was no one’s whipping boy. “Boss?”
21
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James sat up so fast he got a little dizzy. Aaron stood in the open doorway, holding the pack of papers Soren had left. James realized his cock was still hanging out of his pants and made sure he stayed up close to the desk. “You okay?” James nodded. “Fine.” Aaron stepped into the office and laid the papers on his desk, Soren’s business card on top. It read Richard K. Sorensen. Hmm. James liked his nickname. Soren fit him. Strong, ultimately masculine. “Are you going to sell?” James shook his head. “No, I’m not. Don’t worry about it.” Aaron smiled. “Good. I like my job.” Aaron had been working at Williams’ Hardware since he was barely old enough to hold a job. Now he was James’ only full‐time employee. He was a good kid. James smiled at him. “You do a good job. Don’t worry about anything.” James had even fancied that one day Aaron would take over the business, since James wouldn’t ever have children of his own. Aaron nodded and left the office. As soon as he was out of sight, James pushed back from the desk and tucked himself into his pants. Well, that had been an experience. He stood and headed for the door. He’d never had sex in the store before. But he had a lot more important things to think about. Like figuring out how to salvage the store and bring in more business. Soren had obviously done his homework, because he’d been right. James had just barely broken even last year, and this year didn’t look any better.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Three With one eye on the door, Soren sat at the bar, nursing his beer. It was after ten and obvious that James wasn’t going to show. It surprised him. He thought he’d be there. No way had he mistaken the lust and heat in his eyes, his pleasure, as he’d come in Soren’s mouth. Maybe he’d pushed too hard. Or maybe it wouldn’t matter how he apologized after he’d so severely offended James the other night. He wasn’t even sure why it was so important to him. The last thing he should do was start an affair with a man his client was trying to buy out. He skirted on the edge of breaking ethic codes, but it didn’t seem to matter when he stopped to think about it. He wanted James. There was something about the tall, dark man that called to him. Those sad eyes, the look of tenderness and softness that made Soren think James wore his heart on his sleeve. And the way he’d stood up for himself and confronted Soren... It had been a very long time since any man outright impressed him, but James had succeeded. He wasn’t a wimp. And he wouldn’t let anyone push him around. James wasn’t a slave, and that was probably what intrigued him. James was the first man since Vance who was a challenge. Who didn’t roll over and let Soren walk all over him. He stood up for himself. “Hey, Soren.” He turned to see Mistress Katriona, the club’s co‐owner, Dalton’s wife, slide onto the barstool next to him. “Kat.” “You’re not usually here in the middle of the week.”
23
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren nodded. “I thought I was meeting someone, but he didn’t show.” Kat arched a jet‐black eyebrow. “Really.” Soren almost smiled. Katriona had a way about her, as if she saw to the heart of the matter without any words being spoken. “What can you tell me about James Williams?” Soren asked, not bothering to beat around the bush. She’d see through him, anyway. She’d been in this business way too long to let anyone play mind games with her. Besides, Dalton had undoubtedly told her about the altercation. “You know I can’t reveal private information about club members.” Tyrone set a glass of cola in front of Kat and moved down the bar to another customer. “How long has he been a member?” Kat sipped her drink. “He joined the day we re‐opened. He was referred by a couple long‐time members.” Soren nodded. He knew that who had referred him was private information she wouldn’t reveal. He took a pull of his beer as he formulated his next question. He wanted to know how often James used the private rooms, or if he’d been seen being sexually active anywhere in the club. How many men had he been with since he’d become a member. Kat leaned in close and dropped her voice to a husky murmur. “He comes in, sits at the bar, has two beers, then leaves. As far as I know, and I usually know what goes on in my club, there’s only been a couple other men, and neither of them were Doms.” Soren simply nodded, but inside he grinned. He couldn’t say why he felt relief that James wasn’t a slut, but he appreciated the fact. He was selective. And he’d chosen him. Soren slashed his hand through his hair. James had chosen him, and he’d offended the man in the worst way. “Mind telling me how you went from fisticuffs to sitting here waiting for him to show up? You’ve piqued my curiosity.” Soren turned his head to meet Kat’s eyes. She’d been a good friend over the last few years since he joined Incognito. He’d met Vance at the club, and Kat had been a silent support when Vance walked out on him. “I
24
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton ran into him by accident this afternoon.” Kat gave a slow nod, her black eyes intense. “And he didn’t slug you?” Soren chuckled. “No. I apologized and asked him to meet me tonight. He said no, but I thought...” She raised that eyebrow again, a smirk on her lips. “You’ve been hanging around too many slaves lately. James might be submissive, but if I were to place a wager, I’d guess that he’s never been trained. He’s not going to be at anyone’s beck and call anytime soon.” Kat knew her patrons, so he didn’t even try to second‐guess her evaluation of James. No doubt she knew him a thousand times better than Soren did. Hell, all he knew was that James could give amazing head, and that he craved to taste him again. To dominate and take all he had to give. To sink his cock into him and find release within his beautiful body. “Don’t get your hopes up, okay?” Kat said, tilting her head to the side and meeting his eyes. “He’s a handsome devil, I’ll grant you that, but I’m not sure he’s ready for anything...” “Anything, what?” She gave a nonchalant shrug, but her intense gaze never wavered. “Just...anything.” “At all?” She shrugged again and broke the eye contact to pick up her drink and sip. “What do you know, Kat?” She shook her head. “I’ve said enough.” She slid off the seat and straightened her skin‐tight latex bustier. “Have a good evening, Soren.” She tapped him on the shoulder with her ever‐present riding crop and gave him a smile. “There’s other fish in the sea, you know.” And then she walked off. What the hell did she mean by James wasn’t ready for anything? If he’d only been coming to the club for a month, it might mean that he wasn’t ready for a real D/s relationship. Soren could understand that. The guy had a problem with authority. Well, maybe not authority in general, just specifically his authority.
25
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Although, James had been staring at him a lot, which was a direct insult to a Dom. Or an invitation. James had readily accompanied him to a room and hadn’t hesitated in giving him a blowjob. “Fuck it,” Soren mumbled as he tipped up his beer and drained it in one long swallow. “Give me another, would you, Tyrone?” The big, black bartender nodded. “Sure thing.” Beer in hand, he turned on the stool to scan the club. Mid‐week was pretty quiet, and he recognized a few stray subs he’d enjoyed before. But as he stood up, intending to approach one, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He wanted James. Damn himself for being a one‐man man. He was like a dog with a bone. Once he got his teeth into something, he just couldn’t let go. No wonder it had taken him so long to get over Vance. Was he over Vance? Yeah, he was. But he wasn’t past the betrayal. He hadn’t yet mended all the fractured pieces of his heart Vance had left behind. He sank back down on the stool and swallowed more beer. When he’d left James in his office that afternoon, he’d been so hard he could barely walk out of the store. He’d wanted to bend James over that ratty old desk and slam into him, claim him as his own. He turned back toward the bar and propped his head on his hand. He should have gone ahead and done it. It might’ve been the only chance he’d have with the man. * * * * * “Got any money?” James pressed his fingers against his forehead, wishing he could stave off the headache. It was a bad night, and Pop was in Lala Land. “No, Pop, I already gave you all my change.” Pop grumbled, “What good are you?” James pushed up from the couch to go find some aspirin. “I want some money,” Pop said, his voice rising. “So do I,” James mumbled as he opened the bathroom cabinet and scrounged for painkillers.
26
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Where’s Thelma? She said she’d be home by dark.” James dropped the pill bottle in the sink as pain pierced his heart for the old man. Grandma Thelma had been dead for almost fifteen years. She’d gone out to the store one evening but never made it home. She was killed in a car crash. “Thelma?” James went back into the living room to find Pop standing at the front window staring out at the driveway. “Where’s Thelma? It’s dark. She should be home.” James put his arm around Pop’s slouched shoulders and turned him away from the window. “It’s okay, Pop. You remember. She’s at her sister’s house for the weekend.” The doctors said it was best to say whatever could be said to calm him, rather than try to explain the painful truths. By morning he would forget the whole episode and remember that Thelma was gone for good. “Why don’t you have a seat? I’ll go make some toast with jam, just the way Grandma does.” “I miss Thelma,” Pop said, his voice low and sad. “I know you do.” He led Pop to the couch and helped him sit. “How’re your legs tonight?” “Fine,” he grumbled, but he rubbed his right knee with gnarled fingers. “I’ll get you a pill, okay? You’ll feel better.” “I want to call Thelma. I want to talk to her.” James swallowed hard. He couldn’t contemplate what it would be like to be all alone with only a lousy grandson as a companion after he’d been married to the love of his life for almost fifty years. “Okay, Pop. After you take your pills and eat your toast, we’ll call Grandma.” Pop nodded in agreement. James made the toast with grape jelly, just the way Pop liked it, then got his pain pill and nighttime medication. Hopefully, by the time Pop finished the toast, he’d have forgotten about calling Thelma and would be ready for bed. “Got any money?” Pop called as James pushed the plunger on the toaster.
27
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James shook his head. “Yeah, Pop,” he said as he pulled the coin dish from atop the fridge. “I’ll bring it in with the toast.” “You’re a good boy.” He just wished he could do something more for his grandfather. It hurt being so helpless. * * * * * Late Saturday afternoon, James perched on the top of a ladder, taking inventory in the small storage room at the back of the store, trying to figure out what he had an excess of so he could have a sale and bring in some customers and hopefully some revenue. Chester Carson had called him twice in the past few days since showing up in the store with Soren. The first time James had avoided the call, instructing Aaron that he was never to be available for that man. The second time, though, James had answered the phone. Chester was willing to add another ten grand onto the offer—an offer that was offensive in itself because what he was offering would barely cover the price of the inventory, let alone the prime downtown lot and the store itself, which he’d remodeled just four years earlier. Besides, how could he sell the shop? It was his life. Without it, he’d have...he’d be... “James?” Aaron called from the doorway. “Jenny’s on the phone.” Shit. Jenny never called unless something was seriously wrong. He hopped down off the ladder, jogged to the front counter, and grabbed the receiver. “What is it, Jenny?” “Mr. Williams...” She sniffled. “Pop...hospital...” She sucked in a deep breath. “Paramedics said his hip is probably broken.” “Where are you now?” “I’m at the hospital with him.” She sobbed. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Williams. I’m—” “I’m on my way, sweetheart. Calm down. It wasn’t your fault.” He cradled the phone and turned to Aaron. “I think Pop fell. I’ve got to...” His stomach clenched. God, he hoped Pop was okay.
28
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Go,” Aaron said. “I’ll finish the inventory and lock up.” “Thanks.” By the time James got to the hospital, nausea roiled in his gut, and sweat prickled his forehead. If he hadn’t stayed late... If he’d quit and gone home on time... If he’d been at home with Pop... He parked his truck near the main entrance and went in. They directed him to the emergency room, and the knot in his gut tightened. Jenny stood up from her spot on the vinyl seats and came toward him, her cheeks tear streaked, her eyes puffy and red from crying. She went into his arms, and he hugged her because she needed the comfort, but all he could think about was making sure Pop was okay. “Where is he?” James finally managed when Jenny’s sobbing lessened to hiccupy sniffles. She pointed toward the double doors. “They won’t let me see him because I’m not family, but the doctor came out a few minutes ago and said they had to sedate him. The dementia is really bad after his fall.” More tears tracked down her cheeks. “It’s like something snapped. Oh, God, Mr. Williams. One second he was fine, he said he was going to go to the bathroom, and then I heard this crash, and when I went to find him, he was in the hallway...” She sniffled and swiped a soggy tissue under her nose. “He was crying.” She breathed in a shaky breath. “I panicked and called 911, and then the ambulance was there, and...and...I forgot to call you. I’m such a horrible person.” James patted her shoulder. “It’s okay, Jenny. It wasn’t your fault. Is your mom or dad home tonight?” When she nodded, he said, “Why don’t you call one of them and see if they can pick you up? If not, I can take you home, but I don’t know when I’ll get out of here.” She nodded again. “I’m going to go find the doctor.” After speaking with the nurse at the desk, James was taken through the double doors to his grandfather. “The doctor will be by shortly to speak with you,” the middle‐aged nurse in powder blue scrubs said. “Your grandfather’s been given some
29
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton heavy sedatives, so he’s not very lucid.” “Thelma?” James went to the side of Pop’s bed and picked up his grandfather’s hand. “No, Pop. It’s me, James.” “I need Thelma.” His words were slightly slurred, his eyes closed. He had a bruise over his right cheekbone, and James wondered what he’d hit it on. “Grandma’s at her sister’s, Pop. She won’t be home for a few days.” Tears stung his eyes, but he blinked them back. He ran his hand over his grandfather’s brow, pushing back his thin, white hair. “I’m here, though, Pop.” “Thelma...” James had to bite his lip to keep his emotion inside. God, he wanted to help his grandfather. Wanted to take away his pain, his loneliness, but there was nothing he could do. There was nothing left to do. When James’ father died three years ago, and he’d taken Pop in, he’d promised himself he would see to Pop’s happiness and health. And now he’d failed. And as for happiness...how could someone in his mental state ever be happy? He missed his wife so much he couldn’t remember that she was dead. As if he’d blocked it so the tragedy of it wasn’t in his mind anymore. “Mr. Williams?” James turned away and swiped at his eye before facing the doctor. “I’m James Williams,” he said, extending his hand to the graying, wrinkle‐ faced doctor. “Doctor Sanchez. Would you mind if we talked in private?” James glanced at his grandfather then nodded. Pop probably wouldn’t even know he was missing. He followed Dr. Sanchez past a dozen curtained off cubicles and into the doctors’ lounge. “Would you care for a cup of coffee?” the doctor asked as he went to the coffee pot on a counter and filled a paper cup from the carafe. “No, thanks. How’s my grandfather?” The doctor motioned to a vinyl sofa, similar to the one in the waiting room. “Have a seat.”
30
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James sat down on the edge and leaned forward, elbows on knees. Dr. Sanchez pulled a chair from the nearby table and sat down across the low coffee table from him. “The good news is, he didn’t break anything. He landed hard on his hip and has deep bruising, but all the x‐rays came back clean. We also did a CT scan to check his head. He’s fine.” James sighed in relief and slumped back onto the sofa. “What I’m more concerned about, though, is what caused the fall and his obvious dementia.” “He’s been getting worse the last few months. He’s got an appointment next week to see the doctor.” James scrubbed his hands over his face. “I never leave him alone. I never thought...” A dry, humorless laugh slipped out. “I live in paranoia of him wandering off by himself or trying to use the stove and getting burned. I never thought he’d fall down in the hallway on his way to the bathroom.” “Equilibrium can go with old age.” James nodded. “What can I do? Can anything be done?” The doctor took a sip of his coffee then set the cup on the table. “Mr. Williams, I worked in geriatrics for ten years before transferring to the ER. I don’t want to overstep my bounds as an ER doctor, and I don’t personally know your grandfather’s physician and what he feels about the situation, but I strongly advise he be placed in a full‐time care facility.” James’ heart stuttered. Pop’s doctor had said the same thing two months ago when they saw him, when the episodes of disorientation—not knowing what year it was or that Grandma Thelma was dead—began to increase exponentially in frequency. “I know this is a difficult decision to make, Mr. Williams, but for your grandfather’s safety...” James nodded, even as his heart refused to accept the fact that he couldn’t care for his grandfather any longer. That what he had to give wasn’t good enough. “I...um...” He cleared his throat. “I’ve been looking into a few places.” He had the brochures on his nightstand. He’d even gone to talk to the director of one of the places, but he couldn’t stand the thought of abandoning Pop in a place where he didn’t know anyone.
31
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton The doctor pulled a business card out of the pocket of his lab coat. “Give me a call if you need a referral.” James took the card. “Thank you, Doctor.” “Your grandfather will need to stay overnight at least, just to make sure his injuries aren’t more substantial, but I don’t foresee a problem. You should be able to take him home in the morning, though with the bruising on his hip and knee, I don’t think he’s going to be walking well any time soon.” “We have a wheelchair for him.” Dr. Sanchez nodded then stood and held out his hand. “Let me know if you need anything.” James stood up and shook the doctor’s hand. “Thanks,” he said again. What else could he say? He knew Dr. Sanchez was right. Pop needed better care than he could give him. The fact that the thought alone ripped out his heart shouldn’t matter. He’d do whatever his grandfather needed. He wouldn’t let Pop get hurt on his watch again.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Four Soren was met by Kat at the front door of Incognito, and he gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Good evening, Katriona.” She smiled up at him. “Good evening to you, too. You seem to be in a much more jovial mood than the last time I saw you.” He nodded in agreement. He was. He’d put some things to rest the past few days. Mostly his lust for one dark‐haired, dark‐eyed beauty named James Williams. Kat was probably right. James wasn’t ready for a serious D/s relationship. He’d proven as much by not showing the other night. “Well, then, you enjoy yourself tonight.” Kat gave her patented husky laugh and tapped him on the hip with her ever‐present riding crop. “And try to stay out of trouble.” He winked before he turned away and headed into the main room of the club. He wasn’t looking for trouble, but he was looking for a slave to slake his hunger for some sex. Ahh, there was Tristan. He might do well. The man had a mouth like a vacuum cleaner. First, a beer. He headed directly to the bar, pausing here and there to say hello to a few of the club regulars. Incognito was like a second home to him. A place to come to relax. And even if he hadn’t been in the mood to get laid, which more times than not was the case when he came here, there was always a friendly face in the crowd. Someone to shoot the breeze with. He went to the end of the bar since all the stools were filled. “I’ll take a Bud,” he said to Tyrone. He turned and leaned an elbow against the
33
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton bar as he scoped out the pickings. As usual on a Saturday night, the club was at near capacity. Almost every table was filled with couples or small groups. Music pulsed from the hidden speakers in the ceiling, and men and women alike danced on the stage in various degrees of dress—or more precisely undress. He wondered if there would be any scenes played out tonight. Sometimes dancers got carried away and... He grinned and tipped back the beer Tyrone had put in front of him. He felt good tonight. He’d had a relaxing morning at home then met up with a couple of buddies and played Frisbee on the beach for several hours, after which he’d soaked in the hot tub. For the first time in a long time he was totally relaxed. Tristan approached, head lowered in submission. He was one of the few bigger slaves. He wasn’t as tall as James, was pale compared to James’ darkness, but he wasn’t boyish in build. Fuck. Why was he thinking of James? He’d put the man out of his head. Period. End of discussion. Tristan dropped to his knees in front of him. The submissive posture usually set his blood to heating, but tonight he felt nothing much more than...weak amusement. He frowned and tapped Tristan on the shoulder. “Get up.” Tristan obeyed. “Speak.” Tristan raised his chin just enough to make sure his words would be clear but never raised his eyes. “If it pleases you, Master Soren, I am yours for the evening.” Not even an inkling of arousal stirred in Soren’s blood. “Thank you for the offer, slave, but I think I’ll be flying solo tonight.” Tristan bowed. “As you wish, Master.” “You’re free to go.” Tristan bowed again, lower, then turned and walked away. Huh. He tipped his beer and took a few long swallows. That was strange. He liked Tristan. A lot. Tristan was a good lover and never asked for any of the personal attention some slaves craved. He didn’t need praise and coddling. Tristan always let Soren use his body any way he
34
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton wished then left the room without a word when Soren released him. He drained the beer and set the bottle on the bar. When he caught Tyrone’s eye, he motioned for another. As he lifted the beer to his lips, he glanced back at the room in time to see James come through the main door. Soren’s pulse quickened, and his skin tingled. James made his way through the room neither looking left or right. His eyes downcast, he scooted up to the bar and carefully wedging himself between two strays sitting back to back. He ordered a beer and dropped a bill on the counter to pay for it. When Tyrone slid it across the bar to him, he took it and moved away. James drank down half the beer in a long swallow then swiped the back of his hand over his mouth. He scanned the room, as if looking for someone—Me? Soren wondered. But then he headed to a quiet corner where one lone table sat empty. He seemed to collapse into the chair, his back to the room, and cradled his head in his hands. Soren was halfway across the room before he stopped himself. What was he doing? He’d put James out of his mind. Decided James was not for him. But he looked so... Soren had thought he’d seen sadness in James’ eyes before, but his hunched shoulders, the way he sat practically curled in on himself—something wasn’t right. He couldn’t in good conscience walk away. Not if he could help. Even if James just needed an ear or a shoulder. He went to the table next to James and motioned to the Domme sitting there with three sexy young strays, silently asking if the empty chair was truly vacant. She batted her long, fake eyelashes and smiled. “It’s all yours, darling.” He grinned and grabbed it, swung it around right next to James, and straddled it so he was within inches of the other man. “Hey, buddy. How you doin’?” He wasn’t prepared for the utter desolation in James’ dark eyes. “Leave me the fuck alone. I can’t deal with you tonight.” His voice was soft, emotionless, as if his entire world had come to an end. He turned
35
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton back to stare at the table, his head propped on his hands as if his neck didn’t have the strength to do the job. Soren’s brain warred with him. He should go, as James wished. But he couldn’t leave him. With the way he looked, Soren didn’t think he should be left alone. After a few long minutes, James tipped back his beer and finished it. Then he turned toward Soren. “What do you want from me?” He shoved back from the table and got to his feet. Soren surged up and blocked him against the wall. “I want to make sure you’re all right. You don’t look so good.” James met his eyes, and a little of the indignation seemed to seep out of him as his shoulders relaxed. “I’m fine. Bad day. I’ll survive. Thanks.” He didn’t sound fine. Soren took a small step closer, until their chests nearly touched. He could smell James’ subtle, musky cologne, and his heat. He wanted to bury his face against the man’s neck and taste his flesh again. He wanted to breathe him in and sink into his body and claim him. He moved closer still, and their chests brushed. James sucked in a breath but, other than that, didn’t move. Until Soren dipped his head, intent on tasting James’ neck. James turned his head sideways and brushed his mouth against Soren’s. Soren jerked back. He didn’t kiss. Ever. Not anyone from the club. Kissing was too intimate. It meant more than a quick fuck. To him, kissing meant a kind of commitment. A way he let very few men into himself. He hadn’t kissed anyone since Vance left. Staring into James’ eyes, though, Soren wanted to let him in. James needed it. A good Dom always knew what his sub needed, and right now James needed the comfort of an embrace. Soren raised his hand and cupped the side of James’ neck. James’ eyelids slowly lowered, and he leaned into the touch. Soren slowly moved forward until their breaths mingled. James’ hand came up to his waist and settled against his hip. And then James was the one to close the small gap between them, their bodies pressing flush
36
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton against each other as Soren claimed his mouth. James groaned and wrapped his other arm around Soren, splaying his hand over Soren’s shoulder blade. There was no mistaking the instant, hard reaction both of them experienced as their pelvises pressed together. James tilted his head to the side and opened his mouth, inviting Soren in. He obliged with a sweep of his tongue, and his own groan escaped. James’ mouth was warm and soft. He tasted of beer mixed with coffee. He pressed James against the wall and rubbed his straining cock against him. Even through layers of leather and denim, Soren could feel his heat. His length and breadth. In need of oxygen, Soren broke the kiss but, still cradling James’ face, dipped his head to nip on the strong column of his neck, to skim his lips over evening whiskers. James sucked in gasps of air and clung to him, his hips thrusting against Soren’s. “More,” James whispered as his one hand went up into Soren’s hair and held him tight against his neck where he nibbled. “Make me forget today. God, I want oblivion for just one night.” Soren’s heart ached for the man. He wanted to take James’ sorrows onto himself and free him of his burden. He would give James what he needed. “Come on,” he said, breaking contact between them and taking James by the hand. He hoped he could find a free room. All the voyeur rooms were full, so he led James up the stairs to the private bedrooms. The last one along the hall was unoccupied, and he pulled James inside, locked the door, then pressed him against the wall and attacked his mouth. James raked his hands through Soren’s hair, then down his neck and chest until he fumbled with the buttons on the front of Soren’s silk shirt. Soren pulled away only long enough to pull the shirt over his head and toss it away. He pulled James’ T‐shirt from his jeans and over his head. “Gorgeous,” he said as he took a moment to admire James’ long, lean, runner’s physique. He was strong and lithe, with well‐formed pecs
37
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton and the slight indentations of a washboard stomach. Soren ran his fingers over the sprinkling of curly black hair on James’ chest then bent and licked a hard nipple. James jerked at the contact and groaned, his fingers biting into Soren’s shoulders. As Soren suckled first one flat nipple then the other, he pulled open James’ button fly and carefully extracted his long, solid cock from his briefs. “Gorgeous,” he said again as he moved back up to James’ mouth. “You’re gorgeous.” James dropped his head back and drove his hips forward as Soren stroked his length with one hand and reached around behind to palm James’ firm, round buttocks with the other. Perfection. James thrust his tongue into Soren’s mouth and cupped the back of his head to hold him. James had a lot to learn about being a sub, but Soren wouldn’t try to train him tonight. James needed the oblivion of hot, hard sex. Soren was willing and more than able to comply. Releasing James’ ass, Soren opened his own fly and pulled his hard dick from his leather pants. He wrapped his hand around both of their cocks and stroked. James panted and ripped his mouth away from Soren’s. “Fuck.” “Is that what you want?” Soren nipped the side of James’ neck, then his shoulder. “You want me to fuck you?” James’ hands were rough on his shoulders as he tugged him closer. “Yes. Fuck me.” He thrust his hips, their cocks rubbing together as Soren stroked them both. Soren spun James around and pressed his body from shoulders to ass against his new lover. “Don’t move,” he whispered into James’ ear before pulling away to retrieve a condom and lube from what appeared to be a low, brick wall. All of Incognito’s rooms were equipped with the essentials to satisfy almost any sexual hunger, but it was usually on some form of table. When he glanced back at James, he couldn’t contain a grin. He was still pressed against the wall, but he had one hand on his cock, jerking himself off. Soren licked James’ shoulder blade, then the back of his neck. He

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton rolled on the condom then squirted lube on his fingers and spread it over his own cock in a thick sheen. He almost groaned at the sensation. He hadn’t been this turned on in ages. “Let me,” he said as he reached around James with his slick fingers and stroked him. James groaned, raised his hands, and pressed them against the wall, then stuck out his ass and spread his legs slightly in a silent request for more. Soren laid his forehead against James’ shoulder and guided himself between those luscious ass cheeks. James sucked in a harsh breath and tensed. “Relax, baby,” Soren said then kissed James’ neck. But when he pressed against James’ anus, James’ hands fisted, and he quit breathing altogether. “James?” “Do it,” James said, his voice tight, strained. He pressed back against Soren’s cock, but Soren pulled back, releasing him. Breathing hard, he tried to get his brain to function but couldn’t seem to string his thoughts together. Why the hell was James so tense? He wanted it...but... “Oh for Christ’s sake!” James looked at him over his shoulder, his eyes pleading. “You’re a goddamn virgin.” James didn’t deny it. He slumped against the wall, his cheek against the smooth silk covering. Fury bubbled through Soren like nothing ever had. A goddamn virgin! He pulled off the condom, dropped it in the garbage, and then jerked up his pants. So that’s what Kat had meant by James not being ready. A thirty‐five‐year‐old virgin. That complication he didn’t need. “Soren...” He glanced at James as he grabbed his shirt off the floor. “I don’t do virgins.” Did that mean he’d just come out of the closet? Soren shook his head and jerked his shirt over his head. Without another word or glance at James, he wrenched the door open and slammed it behind him. He collapsed against it, still breathing hard, fighting the effects of his lust still

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton coursing hard through his body. A newly discovered homosexual was not something he ever wished to deal with. He wanted experienced, well‐socialized gays to play with. Soren pushed away from the door and had taken only one step down the hall when a thud on the other side of the wall stopped him, followed by, “Fu‐u‐uck!” shouted in a harsh cry of anger and anguish. He turned back toward the door, but stalled. How could he walk away? How could he not? James wasn’t his problem. They had no claim to one another. But Soren felt responsible. James was hurting and asked for only one thing—oblivion in order to forget for just one night. What he needed to forget, Soren had no idea, but he knew James was hurting. He turned the ornate brass doorknob and opened the door. He hadn’t noticed the room before. It was one he’d never seen. The setting was an English garden by moonlight. The silk walls were painted to look like brick covered in ivy vines, the ceiling filled with wispy dark clouds, stars, and a big moon hanging in one corner. The lighting was subdued. The bed was built into the floor to look like a picnic blanket, but since James lay in the center of it, hands behind his head, staring up at the sky, Soren could see that it was plush and comfortable. As he stepped into the room, James turned his head to look at him. He didn’t say anything. If James would just tell him to leave again, this time he would, and he’d be free of any guilt for abandoning a man in a time of need. Soren shut the door and locked it. James turned back to staring at the stars overhead. “Katriona sure did some amazing things in the rooms when she rebuilt after the fire, didn’t she?” His voice was even and calm, as if the whole episode hadn’t happened. Soren moved to the edge of the bed and sat down, sinking slightly into the softness. “Yes, she did. I think the sultan’s palace is my favorite, but this one’s a close second.” James turned his head and glanced at the walls, then up at the white, glowing moon in the corner of the room. He’d buttoned his pants, but his beautiful chest was still bare.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “You ever been to England?” James asked. “Yes. A few times.” “I’ve always wanted to go...” His voice trailed off. He sighed. “I’ve never even been off the Eastern Seaboard.” Soren lay back, stretching out next to him. In the silence that followed, he heard the soft chirping of crickets, and another sound that reminded him of a soft breeze flowing through tree leaves. Kat really had gone all out with these rooms. The bed was soft and luxurious, the picnic blanket quilt made of the softest cotton. “I’ve never been farther away from Florida than North Carolina,” James said, his voice soft and sad. He sighed again. “What’s stopping you?” Soren asked, his voice low as not to startle James. He was silent so long, Soren thought he wouldn’t answer, but then he said, “Everything.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Five James’ fingers ached from clenching them together so hard under his head. He couldn’t believe Soren had returned to the room after leaving so angry. But he was here, and James didn’t know what to do. He lay still, in the middle of the soft bed, and stared at the pinpoints of light that depicted stars in a night sky. When Soren stretched out next to him, all he wanted was to roll over and curl around the big, strong man. Yes, he wanted sex, but he’d take any companionship he could get right now. He just didn’t want to be alone tonight. Soren rolled onto his side and propped his head on his hand. He was so close James could feel the heat of his body, smell his dark, spicy scent. James licked his lips, remembering the first kiss ever given to him by a man. Soren was all he’d ever dreamed of in a lover. Only Soren didn’t want him. Didn’t want a virgin. The thought of him as a virgin was humorous, but he probably owed Soren an explanation. Before he could say anything, Soren asked, “What is everything?” James almost forgot what they’d been talking about. “Life. Responsibility. Family...” He didn’t want to think about how Pop looked when he’d left him in that hospital room an hour ago, all alone, sedated into a restless sleep. “The hardware store?” James nodded. “I took over running it when I was twenty‐one, after my dad had a heart attack. He couldn’t work any longer.” He shrugged. “And then what? You’re not allowed to take vacations?”
42
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James snorted. “My wife’s favorite destination was Orlando. No need to go anywhere else.” When Soren didn’t say anything, James turned to look at him. Soren watched him with those dark eyes, and he could feel the return of Soren’s anger, see it in the tick of his jaw. James didn’t want the man to leave again, so he said, “She left me three years ago, after I admitted that I found men attractive.” “How long were you married?” Soren asked. “Almost ten years.” “And it wasn’t until after you were married you discovered your predilection for men?” James shook his head then looked back up at the ceiling. Staring at Soren made him ache for more. Another touch, another kiss. Other than when Peggy demanded answers, he’d never told anyone about himself or his... He swallowed. “I was raised Catholic. You know, masturbation is a sin. Sodomy is a sin. Put those two together and I’m going to burn for all eternity.” Soren made a rough sound, and then he brought up his free hand and laid it on James’ stomach. James sucked in his breath and closed his eyes. The contact felt so good. Not sexually, because there was nothing sexual in it. It was simply wonderful to be touched. “I was raised by religious parents, too,” Soren said. “So I understand.” Soren’s hand coasted up his chest, his fingers stroking the hair between his pecs. James tried to bring his brain back to the topic of conversation. “Peggy and I grew up together. Her dad owned the little convenience store near the hardware shop. I forced myself to believe that what I felt for boys was wrong. Peggy and I lost our virginities together after the senior prom. She went to college in Miami and came home every weekend. It was the natural progression of things that we got engaged when she graduated and were married a year later.” “What made you come out of the closet?” Soren’s fingertips coasted over his chest and belly in small circles, and James’ body fired back to life.
43
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton His nipples hardened, and his cock grew long and thick in his jeans. James licked his lips and tried to control his breathing. He didn’t know where this might go, how far Soren would take it because he’d stated very clearly that he didn’t fuck virgins. “Peggy and I had a big fight.” Over Pop, he silently added, but Soren didn’t need to know everything about his life. Peggy had wanted him to put Pop in a nursing home right after Dad died. He couldn’t do it. She’d threatened to leave him. “I walked out of the house to get away from her. I needed to calm down. I hadn’t been out to a bar since Peg and I got married—she didn’t drink—and I wound up in a tavern I went to years before. Only it had turned into a gay bar. “Men dancing together. Men kissing and making out. Men flirting and teasing and touching and... Things that should have made me uncomfortable made me yearn. I wanted to be one of those couples. All the fantasies I’d suppressed because of religion, because my parents would have disowned me, because it was wrong, came crashing back. “I’d given up too much to please other people in my life. I gave up myself. On myself.” Soren’s big, warm hand slipped over his side and gently tugged. James rolled onto his side to face him. Soren skimmed his hand over his side, scooting closer as his arm wound around him, until their bodies brushed from chest to knees. James laid his hand on Soren’s bicep, loving the feel of his thick, muscular arms. “I can imagine your wife was a bit upset with the news.” James nodded. “And since being single, you’ve never taken a lover?” James dropped his gaze for a moment. He swallowed the lump that rose in his throat. “I’m too picky, I think.” “And you chose me because...?” “It’s stupid.” “Tell me anyway.” James figured there was no reason to tell any untruths. Either Soren would make love to him, or he wouldn’t. Lying didn’t accomplish anything. “The slaves flock to you. I’ve seen you with several different
44
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton ones, but they come back to you, offer themselves to you. I figured if they were so anxious for your attention, you must be good.” Soren’s chuckle was a deep rumble that made heat skitter over his skin. “And here I thought it had something to do with my handsome face and fine physique.” James gave him a teasing grin. “That helps, too.” Soren was silent as he ran his hand over James’ bare flesh, dipping between their bodies to glide the back of his knuckles against his stomach, up and over his chest, skimming feather‐like strokes against the hard nubs of his nipples. All the while Soren stared into his eyes, and James desperately wanted to know what he was thinking. “Why Incognito? How much of a sub do you believe you are?” Soren pinched his nipple, and James jerked back, but his hips thrust forward against Soren’s. “I don’t know.” His voice was tight, and heat infused his body. It took all his will not to pull Soren on top of him and beg the man to fuck him. “You’ve obviously never been trained,” Soren said. “How did you come to know about the club?” His breath puffing in harsh pants and mouth gone dry, he said, “I did some research into fetish clubs. Read some news reports about Incognito and the fire. Then I met a man on the Internet who’s a member.” “That sounds a little dangerous.” James tried to give a negligent shrug, but Soren pinched his other nipple. He closed his eyes in order to enjoy the slight pain, the incredible pleasure. “Ahh. Yeah, maybe. But I didn’t know where to start meeting men. He’s a regular here. You’ve...” He sucked in a quick breath when Soren’s hand slid over the ridge of his erection. “It’s Travis. You know him.” He sensed Soren leaning in closer, could feel his warm breath on his cheek, but he kept his eyes shut, waiting, anticipating, thrilling in whatever Soren might do next. “You’re not as much of a sub as I normally fuck,” Soren said, his cheek touching James’, his breath tickling his ear. “But there’s something about you that turns me on.”
45
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Yes! Fuck me. James remained still, though, unwilling to do anything that would make Soren back off. “I shouldn’t be here. The ethics of my job preclude me from having a personal relationship of any kind with you.” Soren’s hand came up, his fingers curling around his neck. And then those fingers slid up and tightened in his hair, pulling his head back slightly. The bit of pain shot a thrill through him, and he opened his eyes to look into Soren’s handsome face. “Do you know what I’m saying, James?” “Not really.” His brain didn’t function when he was this turned on. When all he could think about was what Soren’s hard, bare body had felt like against his. The size of the man’s cock that he wanted to feel inside of him. “What goes on in this club has to stay in this club. We do not have a personal relationship outside these walls.” Though James’ first inclination was to argue, he understood. Soren could get into trouble for fraternizing with the enemy, as it were. But he wasn’t going to sell his store, so there shouldn’t be... Soren pulled James’ hair a bit harder. “Tell me you understand, James, or I get up and walk out of here right now.” “I understand.” Soren’s gaze was hard and dark. “You want my dick up your ass? You want me to fuck you? You know what you’re asking for?” James tried to nod, but the hand in his hair kept him still. “Yes.” “Yes, what?” His cock throbbed against the fly of his jeans with each hard heartbeat. “Yes, Sir.” He didn’t care what Soren wanted him to call him. He didn’t care as long as Soren fucked him. Soren pulled him against his body, his mouth coming down hard and demanding. He groaned into Soren’s mouth and thrust his cock against Soren’s. He’d never been so turned on in his life. Had never wanted anyone as much as he wanted—needed—Soren. Soren pushed him over onto his back and straddled his hips. His
46
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton hands roamed over James’ chest, his sides, rough and arousing as their tongues dueled. James flung his arms wide, willing to give Soren anything he wanted, while at the same time reveling in the glorious sensations of finally being where he belonged. With a person who fulfilled all the late‐ night, private wants and needs he’d had since he was a teenager. Soren’s slight whiskering abraded James’ flesh when he moved down to his neck to nuzzle and lick and suck. James bucked his hips, needy for more. “Next time,” Soren said as he grabbed James’ pants and ripped open the button fly in a quick succession of pops, “you’re going to be on your knees servicing me like a good sub.” James nodded. Even through his hazy, lust‐blinded mind, he heard the words next time, and it thrilled him. There would be a next time. Thank God. Soren moved down his body, hands and mouth trailing over his chest and stomach. And then big, slightly rough hands pulled his cock from his pants, and a hot mouth closed over him. James almost came off the bed. “Yes,” he shouted, every muscle in his body hardening in anticipation of the coming orgasm. Soren let go. “No. Strip.” He moved off of James to stand next to the sunken bed and started pulling off his own clothes. James laid there for a few moments, watching Soren’s beautiful body bared in the soft, imitation moonlight. His skin glistened. James wanted to taste it. All of it. He wanted all of Soren. “Strip, I said.” Soren jerked off one boot and dropped it to the fake grass with a soft thud. “Damn, do you need training.” James toed off his running shoes and shoved his jeans and briefs down his legs. His socks came off last, and he kicked all the clothing off the bed. Soren’s leather pants were the last thing he removed, and oh...holy shit. His cock was longer and thicker than James remembered, his balls heavier. He was so beautiful. His muscles rippled as he moved. His stomach was a perfect six‐pack. His thighs were the size of tree trunks.
47
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Like what you see?” James nodded, licked his lips. “Yeah.” “Excuse me?” “Yes, Sir,” he said dutifully. Soren wrapped his hand around his own cock and pumped it in a slow, sensual stroke. “You know this is gonna hurt the first time, right? You’re aware of that? Your virgin ass ready for this?” His virgin ass puckered in anticipation. He’d survive, he was sure. “I want it,” he said. Then added, “Please, Sir.” Soren seemed pleased by his response, if his small smile was any indication. He walked around the bed and grabbed a few items off the low wall that acted as the Pleasure Table for the room. Every room had one, supplied with just about everything imaginable for a sexy tryst, from condoms to lube to several kinds of sex toys. Soren knelt next to James and laid the items on the bed. A tube of lube, a couple of condoms. No toys though, and James was rather relieved. For this first time he wanted Soren. Just Soren. “You’re as hard as a rock,” Soren stated as he reached down and ran a finger the length of James’ cock. “Good.” James let out a nervous chuckle. “The more aroused you are, the less uncomfortable this’ll be.” Soren ripped open a condom pack and rolled it on. Then he lay down next to James on his back. “Come here, baby,” he said, his voice much softer now. “I’m going to let you do something I never let anyone do.” James frowned in confusion and pushed up onto his knees. “Straddle me.” James carefully moved into position over Soren, his heart thudding so hard he wondered why it didn’t jump right out of his chest. Soren picked up the lube and squirted a healthy dose on his fingertips. “Come here, James,” he said, his voice low and so sexy James’ entire body clenched in anticipation. Placing his hands on either side of Soren’s head, he leaned over until his face was just inches from Soren’s. His cock brushed against Soren’s belly, making him suck in his breath. Soren’s long, thick dick
48
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton jerked against his balls. “That’s it, baby. Come down here.” Soren reached the hand with the lube around behind as his other one came up and cupped the back of his head, pulling James down into a slow mating of lips and tongue. James groaned. Soren tasted so dark and powerful, so right. When Soren’s fingers skimmed over his asshole, he jumped, but Soren held him still, kept eating at his mouth, and rumbled soothing, encouraging sounds deep in his chest. One thick finger pressed at his anus. James lowered himself over Soren so their chests touched, then he wound his arms around Soren’s neck. He needed the grounding. Soren pressed past the tight ring of muscles and entered his ass with one finger. James’ body clenched, his cock throbbed. Soren withdrew, and then two fingers pressed in. James’ hips flexed of their own volition, grinding his balls against Soren. Soren broke the kiss. “That’s it, baby. Feels good?” He held the side of James’ face as if he were a precious gift. James nodded, then grunted as Soren moved his fingers in and out. He met Soren’s eyes and knew he could get lost in them. He was such a big man, and James knew from experience he could be a huge prick, but right now all he saw in Soren’s eyes was tenderness and care. “No pain?” Soren asked. “You’re so goddamn tight.” James shook his head. “It’s good.” So good he wasn’t sure how long he’d last. His balls tightened, and his cock was ready to explode. Soren grinned. “Grab the lube.” James reached over and picked up the tube. Soren slowly pulled his fingers from inside James and held his hand out to James. “Squirt it in my palm.” James did as instructed. “Good. Now rise up a bit.” James went up on his hands and knees. He could hear Soren stroking the lubricant over his own cock. James quivered with anticipation and a little fear. This was it. He was taking the next step. He’d dreamed of it, fantasized about it for what seemed like forever, but this was it. It was
49
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton here now. He looked back into Soren’s eyes and knew it was okay. “Come down slowly, baby,” Soren said. “I’ll hold my cock still, and you come down over it. How deep, how hard or soft is up to you. You can stop at any time.” Yeah, James thought as he slowly lowered his ass down and felt the tip of Soren’s cock nudge his sphincter. He was safe with Soren. “That’s it,” Soren said, his voice little more than a whisper. James pressed down lightly, the soft/hard tip of Soren’s cock stretching him. He sucked in a deep breath and held it as he pushed down a little more. “Breathe, baby.” Soren wrapped his fingers around James’ cock. “Breathe.” The breath burst from James’ lungs at the sensual stroke of Soren’s hand over his throbbing cock. He pushed down a bit more, groaning at the pleasure‐pain. It was good. So good. Part of him wanted to thrust down and take all of Soren, but he wasn’t stupid. He didn’t want to hurt himself. Soren’s hand felt hot against James’ pulsing cock. His strokes were long and sure, with just the right amount of pressure. He was going to come any second. He wouldn’t last. He wanted to tell Soren, but his throat didn’t seem to work. No words would come out. So he pressed down a bit more, until he knew he’d taken in the entire head of Soren’s cock. Soren grunted, and his stroking hand stilled. “That’s it, baby. Goddamn, that’s good.” James’ breaths came short and shallow. It felt so right. So perfect. The stretch, even the slight pain, was welcome. “You’re past the worst part, baby. Can you take more?” Soren resumed stroking his cock, and he almost came; his balls drew up tight, and he could feel the cum moving up. He didn’t want to come yet. Not without— He pushed down hard and shouted as he took Soren’s cock deep. “Yes,” Soren hissed as he pumped James’ cock. James came with another shout, rocking himself on Soren’s cock, experiencing the most excruciating pleasure he’d ever known.
50
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren pressed up just once, sinking in to the hilt, and came with a long, low groan, the pulse of his cock extending James’ pleasure. James collapsed on Soren’s chest. “Oh god,” he said as he panted. “Oh god.” Soren’s big, warm hands coasted over his back. “You did good, baby.” James buried his face against Soren’s neck. Now that it was over, he didn’t want it to be. He didn’t want Soren to get up and walk out. He didn’t want anyone else.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Six Run. Soren’s brain kept repeating that one word. Run. Get up and get the fuck out of there. Run, you damn moron. Run for your life. James’ hot breaths puffed against his neck, tickling and thrilling. The heavy body draped over him was delicious, the arms around him firm and strong. Soren didn’t want to move, didn’t want to leave, but his brain urged him to get out while he still could. He’d taken James to a place the man had never gone before. He’d been James’ first male lover. And he’d let James have control. Soren never gave up control. Not ever. Not since... “Get off of me,” Soren said, then winced at his harsh tone. James moved to the side without a word and kept his gaze averted. Soren didn’t know if he now chose to be submissive, or if it was embarrassment. James had nothing to be embarrassed about. He’d done well. And Soren had found a sexual release like none he’d ever had. Powerful. Emotional. He got to his feet, went to the small warmer in the corner of the room, and pulled out two warm, moist towels. He flung one at James even as he wiped James’ cum from his chest and stomach. Emotion, he thought as he dropped the towel to the floor and reached for his pants. He could not let emotion in right now. James was a virtual stranger. There was no reason to feel anything toward him. He was
52
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton sexy, and he was... Soren glanced at James still sitting in the middle of the bed, his head bowed, eyes downcast. He was a truly nice guy. Soren liked him on a personal level and wanted to know more. Wanted to know why he seemed so sad most of the time. What would make him happy? Was there something Soren could do to bring happiness into his life? Fuck. He didn’t want a relationship! He came to Incognito when he needed sexual release because it was a safe place to come. He could fuck some slave’s brains out and walk away, never to feel anything but the physical. He sure as hell wasn’t going to let a virgin sometimes‐sub into his heart. Richard Sorensen did not have a heart. Vance had ripped it out and walked out the door with it over a year ago. Soren jerked on his boots and then his shirt. He was halfway out the door when he stopped. James hadn’t moved except to wipe himself off with the towel. Hadn’t looked up. Hadn’t uttered a word. He might not have a heart, but the man sitting there did. Soren wasn’t so jaded he didn’t remember his first time. It might have been over twenty years ago, but he knew that the first time a man gave himself to another man was a big thing. Probably even more so with James because he was in his mid‐ thirties, not young and malleable. He’d faced a lot to get to this point; a ten‐year marriage to a woman. Soren couldn’t begin to guess what it must have been like living such a deep lie that many years. “Get dressed,” he said, keeping his voice low, keeping the annoyance at his own inability to walk away in check. He wanted to run. He wanted to go back to that bed, gather James in his arms, and make love all night. He couldn’t do either. He’d treated James like an ass the first time. He wouldn’t do it again. Yet, he couldn’t give in to the deeper need of his own comfort. Soren would not let himself truly feel for James. The softness he experienced right now was only because of the awesome sex. That was all. James didn’t raise his gaze to Soren, but he did comply by getting up and pulling on his clothes. When he was done, he stood in the center of
53
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton the room. The soft imitation moonlight glinted off his black hair, and Soren enjoyed the view. James was one handsome man. “Are you all right?” Soren asked. James nodded and finally raised his gaze to meet Soren’s eyes. Soren wished he hadn’t. He saw longing in James’ eyes, and Soren knew he’d been right. He should have run. “You want to have a drink?” Soren asked, needing to get them out of the room before he crossed back to James, wrapped his arms around him, and kissed him hard and deep, lowered them back to the bed, and taught James a thing or two about pleasing a Dom. “Sure.” James glanced around the room one last time, as if seeing if he forgot anything, then came toward Soren. Soren opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, and led the way to the main floor and the bar. The two end stools were free, and they sat down. It seemed odd to Soren that even though something had shifted inside him, something big and dangerous had changed, the rest of the club was exactly as it had been less than an hour before. James’ thigh touched his for an instant before James shifted away. The urge to reach out and lay his hand on James’ leg nearly overwhelmed him, but he fought it. He motioned to Tyrone at the other end of the bar to bring them two beers. “I’m sorry,” James said, his voice low as he leaned in close to Soren. “I got carried away.” Soren frowned and tipped his head to the side to see James’ face. “What do you mean?” “I...” He stopped while Tyrone set the bottles in front of them. When he moved off, James continued, “I didn’t mean to get so...” He shrugged. “I’ve never experienced anything so intense in my life. Don’t worry. I won’t...I’m not...” “Spit it out.” “I’m not what you want, but I thank you for...you know.” James grabbed his beer and tilted it, gulping it down fast. Soren figured he must be the biggest jackass on earth. James felt guilty for enjoying the sex so much, and didn’t want Soren to feel
54
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton obligated. This should be a good thing. Instead it pissed him off. “Happy to be of service,” he said, hearing the sneer in his tone. James glanced at him as he lowered the bottle from his mouth. He started to slip off the barstool. “I think I should go.” He reached for his wallet to pay for the beer, but Soren caught his forearm in a grip. “Sit down.” Soren saw the thoughts play over James’ face. James wanted to refuse, wanted to get away from him, and frankly, Soren couldn’t blame him. He’d been treating James horribly. God, he was a prick. “Please. Sit down.” James complied. He stared at his beer bottle then fiddled with the label. Soren searched for something to talk about, something to ease the tension between them. “You said you met Travis online because you didn’t know where else to find men. What about the gay bar you mentioned?” James shook his head. “I didn’t want to go back there because it was too close to my store. I’d bet fifty percent of my clientele is anti‐gay homophobes. Big, burly, manly men. I couldn’t afford to lose the business if any of them saw me coming and going from a gay bar.” Made sense. “What about the rest of your family? Do they know why your marriage ended?” James shook his head but still didn’t look in Soren’s direction. “They’re all gone except for my grandfather who is borderline senile. I could probably bring a guy home and introduce him by a woman’s name, and Pop wouldn’t clue in.” Soren heard the sadness in James’ voice. So, it was family that took the light from his eyes. “He lives with you?” James peeled the label from the bottle, then folded it in half, and then again and again. “He’s in the hospital tonight. He fell and got hurt. I should have been there, but I was at the store.” James turned completely away from Soren and looked down the bar. Soren got the impression he hid the emotion on his face. After a few long moments, he went back to concentrating on the beer label. “The doctors all tell me he should be put into a care facility.” He shrugged. “I guess it would be best for both of us.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren couldn’t stand seeing James’ pain, his obvious guilt over not being able to care for his grandfather. He reached out and laid his hand on James’ shoulder. James flinched, and the action hurt something inside Soren. Something suspiciously close to the place where his heart should be—if he still had one. He turned on the stool to face James. “Come here,” he said, his voice low as he lightly tugged James toward him. James looked into his eyes for a moment and would have pulled away, but Soren said, “It’s not unmanly to need comfort once in a while.” James gave a dry, humorless laugh. “Yeah, it is. My father would never have—” Soren leaned in and brushed his lips over James’. “You’re not your father.” James’ nod was small, but he accepted the truth of the words. “You carry the world on your shoulders, don’t you?” Soren softly kissed him again. “Alone.” James shuddered and closed his eyes. Soren took the kiss deeper for a moment, then pulled back, but kept his hand on James’ neck, feeling his new lover’s strong pulse beneath his fingers. That voice in his brain kept telling him to run, but he couldn’t. James needed him. At least for a little while, tonight, right this moment, James needed someone stronger than him. “Why don’t we go get a table, and you can tell me about your grandfather?” James opened his eyes and met his gaze. A small smile flitted over his sensual mouth. “I’d like that.” They ordered two more beers and found a quiet corner in which to sit. James sat down across from him and tipped his beer. “Pop was a child during the Great Depression, so when he’s in one of his dementia episodes, he has this thing about money.” He grinned. “I always carry around a few dimes. Pop thinks he can go to the corner store and buy candy bars with it.” Soren slouched in his seat and watched James’ eyes, so full of love,
56
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton as he spoke of his grandfather. For the first time in over a year, Soren wondered what it would be like to have that kind of love and devotion directed toward him. And that was when he realized that he’d never, in the four years they’d lived together, seen that kind of look from Vance. * * * * * Sundays were usually Soren’s favorite day. He enjoyed sleeping in, having a lazy breakfast on the patio overlooking the ocean, and reading the newspaper. Today he couldn’t settle enough to even enjoy his coffee, let alone the newspaper. He wanted to be with James. Wondered how he was coping with trying to find a nursing home for his grandfather. Wished he could help him, give him the support the man so desperately needed but would never ask for. Soren tossed the partially read newspaper in the recycle box in the garage. When he shut the door again, he glanced at the clock on the kitchen stove. It wasn’t even nine in the morning. They’d talked until almost two. He should still be in bed. Instead, he paced his house like a rabid dog, needed to do something. After last call at the club, Soren and James had walked along the beach for a while. James had told Soren about his childhood, his parents, about his overbearing wife and their tumultuous marriage. About how hard it had been to face his homosexuality, to admit to it, about the relief of finally stepping out of the closet. Frankly, Soren thought James was damn stable for making it to his thirties hiding in that closet. Some gays that admitted their lifestyle in their teens weren’t so well adjusted as adults. Soren stepped out onto the patio and breathed in the tangy sea air. Already the temperature hovered in the low nineties. It would be a scorcher of a day. He needed to get out of the house and do something to take his mind off of James. Maybe he’d take a drive down to the Keys. He hadn’t done that in a while. As he headed back to his bedroom to get dressed, he wondered
57
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton again how James was faring with his grandfather. After they’d kissed goodnight, and James had pulled out of the Incognito parking lot in his eight‐year‐old Chevy pickup, Soren had promised himself that he’d stay away. James had seemed happier by the end of the night, more relaxed. The dark shadows that always played in his eyes had lifted some. He’d even laughed a few times as they walked and talked, hand in hand, on the beach, the cool waters tickling their bare feet. Fuck, Soren! Get a grip! He was not some lovesick teenager. He didn’t live in a fantasy world. Last night was a one‐time shot. He’d had an outstanding orgasm, eased James into the world of man sex, and indulged in a little romance, too. That was it. He wasn’t going there again. James was too dangerous. Falling for him would be way too easy. Soren pulled on a pair of board shorts and a tank top, slipped on a pair of running shoes and headed for the garage. Before he pulled out into the morning sunshine, he hit the button to lower the top on his Jaguar convertible and slipped on his sunglasses. A little sun and maybe a few margaritas at sunset with a cabana boy he knew that worked in Key West would erase all thoughts of James. At least, that’s what he told himself. * * * * * James walked into Pop’s room at ten, expecting the worst. He wasn’t far off the mark. “Who the hell are you?” Pop demanded with a fierce scowl. “Where’s my Thelma?” “Thelma’s at her sister’s, Pop. I’m your grandson, James.” “I ain’t got no grandson. My boy’s only two. What kinda fool nonsense are you talkin’?” This was bad. Even in Pop’s worst spells, he hadn’t claimed that James didn’t exist. Or that James’ dad was only two years old. James assumed the hospital environment added to Pop’s confusion. He just
58
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton wondered how much worse it would get before it got better once he was in a nursing home. James sat down in the visitor’s chair beside the bed. Pop glared and folded his arms over his chest. James didn’t know what to do. Talking to him would be pointless. Leaving him alone seemed cruel. “Is there anything I can get for you, Pop?” Pop’s frown deepened. “Get me my Thelma. She’s never been gone so long.” “She’ll be back soon,” James said, unable to hide the hitch in his voice. “How about some chocolate chip cookies?” “Are you soft in the head, son?” Pop asked, his voice strong and clear. “We can’t afford sugar and butter for cookies. We can barely put bread on the table.” Pop shook his head. “It feels like this war is never going to end.” Good grief, James thought, and forked his fingers through his hair. Pop was stuck in the forties. Growing up, James had heard countless stories about the food rationing during the war. Both Pop and Grandma would take the baby—James’ dad—and on the weekends, walk the ten miles to the nearest farm and work long days in the fields for the benefit of being able to take home all the vegetables they could carry at the end of the day. During the week, Grandma stood in the bread lines while Pop worked at the shipyard cleaning bilges for pennies a day. What a crappy place to be stuck. Why couldn’t Pop’s brain stall in the seventies or eighties? When everyone was happy and healthy and the hardware store’s business was booming with all the building going on in the area? Why’d his subconscious harp on the horrible times when they scrounged for every penny and went to bed hungry more often than not? “Thelma is such a good girl,” Pop said, his voice low and rough as he gazed out the window. “She never complains. Not even when we had to sell her wedding ring for some meat to feed the baby.” James’ chest clenched, and he bit the inside of his cheek. He’d never heard that before. He knew neither of his grandparents wore wedding rings of any kind, but he’d never thought twice about it. God... “Pop. Remember the grand opening of Williams’ Hardware?”
59
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Pop looked at him with vacant eyes. “Who are you? Where’s my Thelma?” Standing up, James motioned toward the door, his throat tight with emotion. “I’ll see if I can find her, Pop.” He walked out the door but only made it a few steps before he stopped and leaned against the wall for support. His heart cried out in agony. His eyes smarted with tears. His last living relative was gone. He slid down the wall and wrapped his arms around his knees. Pop was gone, and James doubted he’d ever return. Pressing the heels of his hands against his closed eyelids, he fought back the pain and loneliness, the guilt that he was the one who’d sent Pop into this state because he’d decided inventory was more important than being home. What the hell was it all for? Why was Pop being punished? “Mr. Williams?” James jerked his head back so fast it knocked against the wall. Dr. Sanchez stood near him, a look of concern on his face. “Um...” He climbed to his feet a bit unsteadily. “I...uh...” “It’s all right, Mr. Williams. I know this can be hard. Your grandfather hasn’t come out of his episode yet.” “Will he ever?” The doctor was silent for a moment, and then he said, “There are some medications we can try, but he’ll need full‐time observation. He doesn’t need to be in the hospital, and the powers that be want him released. I’ve made a few calls, and there are two nursing facilities in the area that are able to take him. If you are interested.” James glanced toward the door to his grandfather’s room. He couldn’t take him home this way. Pop didn’t even recognize him. James had to work; he couldn’t watch Pop twenty‐four hours a day. He turned back to Dr. Sanchez who looked as patient as a saint. “Yes. He needs to go into care. Money is an issue, though. He’s on Medicare, and they’ll only pay so much. He’s got an IRA that has been paying for his medications and such, but it’s not huge.” James swallowed, fearful that he just might have to sell the hardware store to pay for his grandfather’s care. “If you’ll come to my office, I’ll show you the paperwork I have on
60
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton the two nursing homes. They’re both private. There’s a long waiting list for any of the state‐run facilities.” James followed him down the hall to the elevator. “I appreciate all the help, Doctor.” As they stepped into the elevator, Dr. Sanchez gave his shoulder a reassuring pat. “I’ll help in any way I can.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Seven Soren grabbed a stack of file folders just before they slid off his desk. The phone rang at the same time his cell phone chirped. Keeping one hand on the files, he grabbed his cell off the desk and flipped it open. “Sorensen.” His secretary, Tami, opened the door. “Mr. Sorensen—” She stopped when he held up his hand, and the pile of folders slithered off the desk. Fuck! “Rick, honey, are you there?” his mother said. Soren rolled his eyes and motioned for Tami to help him with the fallen paperwork. “Yeah, Mom, I’m here. And I’m a little busy. What can I do for you?” As Tami came to the desk, she mimed a phone call, pointed at the flashing light on the desk phone, and mouthed, “Important.” “I wanted to invite you over for dinner tomorrow night. Your sister is coming in for a visit, and I know she’d like to see you.” “Uh. Okay. Great. Yeah.” He tried to put the files into order as Tami handed them to him. “I’d like that. Wait. Tomorrow?” he stopped and glanced up at Tami. Tomorrow was Saturday, and... And he’d hoped to run into James at the club. He hadn’t seen him in close to two weeks. “Is something wrong? Do you have plans?” His mother’s tone held no censure, but he heard the disappointment. “No, Mom. I’ll be there. Tell Diane I look forward to seeing her.”
62
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Wonderful,” his mother said. “See you at five.” She disconnected before he could respond. He dropped the cell to the desk. “Who’s on the phone?” “It’s Chester Carson. He said it’s urgent.” “Thanks.” Soren reached over the newly stacked files and grabbed the phone, hitting the flashing line. “Hello, Mr. Carson. Sorry to keep you waiting. Minor emergenc—” “Did you get the file I sent over?” Soren looked to Tami. “File?” he mouthed. “Oh!” She dashed from the room. “Yes, sir,” Soren said into the phone. “I have it right here.” He took the envelope from Tami when she returned. “I want you to go through that, and I want you to talk to that stubborn jackass. You convince him to sell me that damn property. There’s enough there to use against him to convince him that a sale is his only redemption.” “Sir?” Soren had no doubt that James was the jackass in question. It was the only person he and Carson had in common. “I think that convincing someone to sell goes slightly beyond my realm of—” “I’ll pay you double if you can get him to sign the contract. I’m even willing to negotiate up to double the original offer. Just get him to sign that damn contract. I need to get in there as soon as possible.” Well, even if he wouldn’t sell, which Soren was quite sure he wouldn’t—James had been very adamant, that night they spent walking on the beach, that the store was not for sale—he’d get a chance to see James again. Get to talk to him. “I’ll do what I can,” he said to Chester. “You do that.” Chester disconnected the call. “What was that about?” Tami asked as she continued straightening files on his desk. Soren shook his head and pulled the papers from the envelope. James Williams’ name was across the top. He’d seen enough private investigator reports to recognize one. So, he thought as he pushed the files to the side and laid the sheaf of papers in front of him. “Thanks, Tam,” he
63
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton said, his attention already riveted on the information. “That’ll be all for now.” What kind of garbage had Chester dug up on James? * * * * * “Here you go, Mr. Schnegal,” James said as he came around the corner from the back of the store. “I just happened to have exactly what you were looking for. I think my father ordered it. They don’t make these anymore.” The company that manufactured that particular doorknob had gone out of business almost twenty years earlier. The old man’s face split into a wrinkly grin. “You’re such a good boy. Your daddy would be proud of you.” James forced a smile and nodded. “Thank you, Mr. Schnegal.” “So, what do I owe you?” “Umm. How about five dollars?” He’d never sell that thing to anyone else. Mr. Schnegal pulled a five from his wallet with arthritic hands and handed it over. “Right fine of you, boy. Right fine.” James put the doorknob in a bag. “You have a good day, sir.” “Right fine,” he said again as he made his way to the front door, his rubber‐tipped cane squeaking on the concrete floor. “Got any more of those lying around? I think it might go with my décor.” James’ heart almost leaped from his chest. He jerked around to see Soren lounging against a wooden shelf that held containers of screws and bolts. He wore a black suit and red power tie. He was as handsome as the devil, and just as dangerous. “What are you doing here?” “Hm. Not the welcome I’d hoped for.” “Soren,” he said in a warning tone. He’d stayed away from Incognito the past two weeks in order to avoid Soren. He didn’t want to see him, because if he did, he’d want to touch him, to kiss him, to be kissed by him. Their one night together was burned into his memory, and
64
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton all he wanted was for it to be gone. He wanted to forget because he couldn’t have him. Soren had made that clear when they said goodbye, reminding him that what happened that night had no place in the real world. “I need to talk to you,” Soren said, moving closer to the counter. James shook his head. “I have nothing to say to you.” Soren laid a file folder on the counter then leaned over. “This is business, James, not pleasure. And I’m breaking ethics to show you this.” James reached for the file, but Soren put his hand over it, keeping it closed. “First, know that I didn’t order this investigation. Chester Carson did. Second, it’s not illegal, the information he got. Third, you need to watch your back because what Carson now knows could, and probably will, come back to bite you in the ass.” Soren lifted his hand, and James flipped the cover open. He saw his name at the top of the paper. As he scanned the typed report, anger flared through him. Someone had dug up all his financial records. Knew how much money he had in the bank, and how much he had outstanding on credit cards. He flipped page after page after page. Finally he looked up. “Why are you showing me this? You work for Carson.” “Because there’s one big thing in there that has me worried.” Everything in the file had James worried. “What?” “Your insurance on the store is lapsed. And the man trying to buy you out knows.” James shook his head and shrugged. “So?” “Do you not see the implications?” “I’ll be able to afford to reinstate it next month.” Three months ago he had to make the choice between a new air conditioner for the shop or the insurance premiums. He had a lot of older people in his store. He couldn’t let them die of heat. The air conditioner would be paid off at the end of this month, and then he’d reinstate the insurance. “Don’t you know how dangerous it is for you not to have insurance?” James crossed his arms and scowled. “Yeah, I know. But I haven’t
65
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton figured out how to get blood from a stone yet. When I do, I’m sure I’ll turn a bigger profit and not have to worry about the little stuff.” Soren pushed away from the counter, paced a few steps then turned back. “Look. James. I don’t trust Carson, okay? He sent me that file to use against you, to get you to sell. He said he’d go as high as double his original offer. He really wants this place.” “So...what? You think he’s going to rob me?” Soren didn’t answer, just stood there staring at him with those gorgeous eyes. He’d missed him. Wanted to be with him. Needed an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on as he had that night two weeks ago. “I don’t have the money until next month,” he said softly. He shook his head. “Even then I’m not sure I can get full coverage.” He was having to come up with a lot of the money for Pop’s new nursing home himself. Maybe he should just sell. James sank down on the stool behind the counter. Why was he clinging to the shop? Pop and Dad had built the place, and he wasn’t doing anything but running it into the ground. If he sold, Pop’s last days would be as comfortable as he could make them. He swiped his hand down his face. “Hey.” He looked up to see Soren leaning on the counter. “You okay?” “Fine.” He stood up and put the papers back in the folder, pushed them across the counter to Soren. “Thanks for the head’s up.” “James...” James shook his head. “I’m not going to sell.” If he did, what the hell would he do? He had some ideas to bring in more revenue. He’d try those first. If he sold, and the money got used up by Pop’s care, how would he get more? At least with the store, there was something to draw from. If need be, he’d take a loan against the property. Soren pulled a pen from inside his jacket and scribbled something on the file folder, then pushed the folder back across the counter. “Come by tonight around seven. I’ll cook you dinner. You look like you could use it.”
66
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James opened his mouth to remind Soren he’d said that they couldn’t have contact outside the club, but Soren turned and walked out of the store, the jangle of the small bell ringing his exit. James glanced down at the folder to see an address in a very nice neighborhood. Figures, he thought as he slumped back down on the stool. Gorgeous and rich. What the fuck did Soren see in him? Especially now that he knew what James’ finances looked like. It was so pitiful it was laughable. * * * * * Soren put the glass bowl of tossed salad in the fridge and pulled out the marinating steaks. He wondered if James would show. He shouldn’t have invited him. He never invited anyone into his home—his private space. But James had looked so lost, how could he have just walked away and left him there alone? As much as Soren denied it was his problem, he couldn’t convince himself of that fact. He wanted it to be his problem. He longed to help James, to fix all his problems and bring a shine of happiness to his dark, sad eyes. Soren turned the steaks in their marinade, then put them back in the fridge and grabbed a beer. The clock showed it was almost eight. He’d give James another half hour before he made his own dinner and ate alone. He wandered out the open patio door and stood on the deck. The sun had set, and the moon hung low over the ocean, glistening off the softly rolling waves. He’d call Chester Carson Monday morning and officially resign from his service. He wasn’t sure how many ethics laws he’d broken, but he didn’t care. He knew corporations did underhanded shit like digging up dirt all the time, but he didn’t like it. It made him uncomfortable, and he’d spoken the truth to James when he said he was worried about what Carson might do. Soren hit the switch on the outside wall to turn on the heat in the Jacuzzi. He could use a hot, bubbly soak to relax tonight, even if he didn’t
67
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton have a companion. Damn, he needed to get over James. He’d taken that drive down to Key West, even found Jose, the sexy cabana boy that worked at one of the resorts down there that he’d met a few years back, but nothing had happened. When it came right down to it, because of James, he’d lost his taste for slaves. He needed a bottom to satisfy him, but he didn’t want a groveling boot licker. And after having James, so warm and willing and innocent, he didn’t want a man who’d fucked every fag in the state. And he didn’t want cold, meaningless sex. As much as he’d tried to convince himself that he and James had simply fucked, nothing more, it didn’t work. Lying there, holding James against his chest while James came down off of a physical and emotional high that only comes once in a lifetime, his heart—which he would have sworn just a month ago was as cold and dead as a stone—had thawed and beat with the stirrings of... Fuck. Love, damn it. Something he’d sworn never to feel again. And then, as they’d talked late into the night, that emotion had swelled to overwhelming. When James hadn’t shown up last week at the club, Soren had been disappointed. When more days went by, he told himself it didn’t matter. That what he thought he’d felt was not real. There were factors involved that would trick him into believing that he had feelings for James. But seeing him today... Wanting to hold him, kiss him, make love to him over and over and over until he forgot his problems... He glanced at his watch and sighed. James wasn’t going to show, but how could Soren blame him? He’d given the guy mixed signals from the very start. His own discomfort at finally feeling something again had chased James away. He turned to the grill at the end of the deck and lit it. Since he’d gone through the trouble to prepare a nice dinner, he might as well eat it. Alone.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Eight 8:22. James stared at the time on the dashboard clock of his truck then glanced across the street to the massive house. He’d driven around the block several times and even left the neighborhood, making it halfway home before he turned back. Now he sat here, waiting, wondering. The entire situation was ridiculous. There was no reason he should go in there. Soren had been more than clear on several occasions about his feelings. He didn’t want what James had to offer, and their relationship was never to leave Incognito. Soren was the one to break all his stated rules. What James feared worse, though, above all, was the rejection that would surely come at the end of whatever would happen if he went in there. He knew the look on Soren’s face. It was something akin to panic— or maybe even disgust. The look he’d given James when he tossed the twenty on the floor after he’d sucked his cock. The same expression he’d worn when he gruffly told James to get off of him after they’d had sex. Even the exact same look he had after he’d kissed him goodnight two weeks ago and, in no uncertain terms, reminded him that what happened within the walls of Incognito stayed there. So why this? Why had Soren invited him over? And why the hell was he sitting here an hour and a half late for the date, yearning to go in and see what Soren had to say, had to offer? Because he was lonely. He didn’t want to go home to an empty house. He’d stopped by to see Pop at the South Shores Nursing Home
69
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton after he closed up the shop, which only led to more disappointment. Pop still didn’t recognize him, though he was no longer hostile. And he’d asked for money, which was a sign that the old Pop was returning, if very slowly. Maybe he’d come around. He’d only been on the new medication a week; the doctors said it could take up to a month to fully kick in. An empty house and mindless television or... Soren. Whatever Soren had to offer, even if he was forced away after, would be better than his empty little house. Dinner, Soren had said. Would he offer only dinner and conversation? That would be fine with James. Yes, he wanted Soren to make love—fuck him. But he’d take friendship. Any form of companionship. James jerked the key from the ignition and shoved open the door. What did he have to lose except maybe a little self‐respect? If that was all, he could live with it. He crossed the street and walked up the driveway. The house—beachfront property—probably cost more than James would see in his lifetime. Again the question arose in his mind—what did Soren see in him? He reached for the doorbell and held his breath. He counted to twenty, jangling his keys in his palm, his nerves frayed. He didn’t know if he should ring again or walk away. He turned to look out over the quiet neighborhood, the houses spaced wide, the manicured lawns lit by ornate street lamps made to look old fashioned. He didn’t belong here. He was middle class and would always be middle class. He snorted and took a step back toward his truck. If things kept going the way they were going, he’d be a lot less than middle class soon. The door opened behind him. “James,” Soren said, his tone surprised. James turned back. “Hey.” Soren smiled and stepped aside, holding the door open. “Come on in. I was just putting the steaks on.” James’ stomach rumbled at the thought of food. He couldn’t actually remember if he’d had anything to eat all day. Nothing after a piece of toast that morning on his way out the door, anyway. “Thanks.” He stepped into an Italian tiled foyer that was as big as the entire living
70
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton room of his house. A sparkling chandelier hung from the cathedral ceiling overhead. “Nice place,” he said as he slipped his keys into his pocket. “Sorry I’m late.” “Thanks, and no problem. I’m just glad you made it.” Soren sounded pleased, not upset at all that he was late. James finally looked at him, but Soren was turning away. “Come on out back. I’ve got the barbeque going. You want a beer?” “Um. Sure.” Soren wore a tank top that showed off his impressive biceps and clung tight enough to delineate the well‐formed muscles of his back. His jeans were worn and tight, slung low. He looked good enough to eat. For the foyer to look so auspicious, the rest of the house was rather homey. The living room was large, with a wall of windows overlooking the tiled deck, which held a sunken Jacuzzi. The furniture was tan leather, which looked soft and inviting. The monstrous plasma television was mounted on the wall, and underneath was a batch of electronics that made James want to press buttons. He followed Soren to the edge of the open‐plan kitchen with its dark granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. “My mother would have killed for this kitchen,” he said without thinking. Soren grinned as he pulled a couple of beers from the refrigerator. “For my parents’ forty‐fifth anniversary last year, I redid my mother’s kitchen to match this one, just a little smaller. I offered to buy them a new house, but she won’t part with hers. They’ve lived there since they got married.” James swallowed hard as he took the beer Soren offered him. Looking at Soren’s kitchen, mentally adding up all the pieces and parts, a remodel would probably cost around fifty thousand. James struggled to keep his grandfather in a nursing home. He looked away from Soren. He so didn’t belong here. Glancing down at his worn running shoes he’d just tracked across the beige living room rug, he prayed there wasn’t anything on the bottom of them. “Hey,” Soren said, his voice low, as he came up beside James.
71
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “What’s wrong? Is your grandfather okay?” James nodded and took a drink from the bottle. He swiped the back of his hand over his mouth, then thought how uncouth that probably looked to a guy who lived in a million‐dollar home. “He’s settling into the nursing home, but he hasn’t yet come back to the present.” “I’m sorry, baby,” Soren said and wrapped his arm around James’ shoulder and hugged him. Hugged him. James closed his eyes and fought the urge to lay his head against Soren’s shoulder. He was so tired. And Soren felt so strong. “Come on. Let’s get you fed. You look like you could use it.” Soren’s arm still around his shoulders, they walked out onto the tiled deck. “Wow,” James said. “This is beautiful.” Grecian‐like columns supported a roof that covered half the deck on which sat a glass patio table and cushioned high‐back chairs to seat six. The deck also held a massive stainless steel barbeque and the Jacuzzi. There were no handrails to obscure the view of the ocean just a few hundred yards from the edge of the deck and, lit only by the lights inside, the nighttime view was enough to take his breath away. Soren squeezed his shoulder before moving to the barbeque. “Thanks. I agree.” He chuckled. “How do you like your steak?” Soren set his beer on the table next to the barbeque and popped the lid on a plastic container. “Um. Medium. A little pink.” James bit his cheek and turned away, the entire situation striking him hilariously funny all of a sudden. He’s handsome, and he cooks. What a keeper. He snorted and tried to cover it by taking a long drink of his beer. Soren must have heard, though. “Got a joke you care to share?” James grinned. What the hell? He moved to the table, pulled out the white‐painted wrought iron chair at the end, and settled into the soft, comfortable cushion. “I was just thinking...” He took another swig then set the bottle on the table. Soren closed the grill, came over, and sat down next to him. “Thinking...?” James turned his head and grinned. “Firsts. First date with a guy,
72
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton and he’s cooking me dinner.” Soren’s smile was big, showing off two dimples James had never seen before. “The way to a man’s heart and all that.” He winked then lifted his beer bottle. His heart. James settled deeper into the chair and stared out at the rolling waves. His heart was definitely involved, but he didn’t see how Soren’s could be. He had no idea what attraction he could hold for this man. He wasn’t a submissive slave. Hell, he wasn’t even sure he’d qualify as a pet. He didn’t want to be a pushover. He just wanted... What? What did James Kenneth Williams want? That hug that Soren had just given him. To have someone there to ask how his day had gone. How Pop was doing. To care. But could he find that long term with a man? He was a guy, and he knew, even when things were going well with Peggy early in their marriage, that as a guy he wasn’t always mentally there for her. Why would he expect that from another guy? And why did he crave it so badly? Just because he’d admitted to being gay didn’t mean he suddenly had some feminine gene rear up and grab him by the throat. He wasn’t some simpering woman who wanted to be coddled and cuddled, was he? God, no! “Penny for your thoughts?” James jerked around to look at Soren. “Your knuckles turned white,” Soren said, motioning to James’ hand where he held the beer bottle. “What’s eating at you?” He glanced away, then back at Soren. What the hell? He might as well just ask. He wasn’t going to find the information anywhere else. “How does it work?” “What?” “A homosexual relationship. I mean...” James blew out a breath. “Hypothetically,” he said, so Soren didn’t get the wrong idea and think he was asking about the two of them together. “How do two men live together and do all the couple stuff...how do they act? What’s expected?” Soren shook his head and leaned forward, his elbows on the table. “I’m not sure I’m following you.”
73
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Okay.” James turned his chair to face Soren, and then he leaned over the table. “With my wife, there were expectations. There are certain things you do for a wife. Certain roles you play and rules you follow. The kiss hello when you come home. Make sure you ask her how her day was, or she’ll pout for the next twenty‐four hours. Flowers on Valentine’s, and God forbid you miss an anniversary. In turn, she’s supposed to let you vent if you’ve had a bad day, and let you hide in your office if you just don’t want to talk.” James shook his head. “She wasn’t so good with that part. But do you see what I’m saying? Who’s the wife in a homosexual partnership? Especially if you have two guys...well...like us, and neither one of us is going to be the good little wife and stay home and make sure dinner’s on the table at night.” Soren stared at him for a long, silent moment, then chuckled. The chuckle grew into full‐blown laughter. Before he finished, he was leaning back in the chair, swiping at his tearing eyes. “Oh, baby, you’re priceless.” Face flaming with anger and embarrassment, James shoved away from the table and went to the edge of the deck. When Soren came up beside him, James said between gritted teeth, “I wasn’t joking. I don’t know how it works. I don’t know how it can work. And I don’t fucking understand what’s going on inside of me.” From behind, Soren wrapped his arms around him and pulled him back against his chest. James stiffened, thought about resisting, but he didn’t want to. Yeah, he was pissed that Soren laughed at him, but it felt too good being in his arms. Soren laid his chin on James’ shoulder. “I wasn’t making fun of you.” He sighed. “Just like a marriage between a man and a woman, two men have to play it by ear...see what works for them. No relationship is easy or perfect or the same as another couple’s. The two people involved have to be open and honest enough to share with each other their needs. Let the other person know what they want, what’ll make them happy.” James wasn’t sure he knew how to do that. He’d been in a marriage that had been all wrong from day one. As if reading his thoughts, Soren said, “You said you and your wife
74
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton had roles you played. I think you feel that way because you were playing a role. You didn’t belong there. You were acting.” Soren’s hand splayed wide over his stomach, and he tensed, his breath catching at the sensual heat that flowed through him at the touch. “All I ask for in a lover is honesty,” Soren said, his voice low, his warm breath tickling James’ ear, sending lust shooting through him in a rush. “I want to make him happy, and I want him to feel safe with me. I want him to tell me what pleases him, what he dislikes, and to let me push him to the edge of his boundaries and then over that edge.” Soren’s hand slipped down, over James’ abdomen, stopping just short of his throbbing cock. “I want to be loved, and I want to love. It’s really very simple.” Soren pulled away so fast James swayed, his heart racing, his blood throbbing through his veins hot and hard. “Don’t want the steaks to burn,” Soren said as he moved to the grill and lifted the lid. James staggered back to the table and sank down in his chair, unsure of what had just happened. Soren passed the table and went back inside the house. He closed his eyes and breathed in the salty air. The temperature was finally cooling after the scorcher the day had been, but the heat in his body kept sizzling. He wanted Soren to fuck him. He wanted to feel Soren’s long, thick cock inside him again. And this time he wanted Soren to— “Start with this,” Soren said, coming back outside and setting a glass bowl of salad and plates and utensils on the table. “The steaks’ll be done in a few minutes.” James nodded and reached for a plate. He wouldn’t argue about food. Maybe if he filled his belly, his brain would start working, and he’d stop lusting after a man he couldn’t have. Not in the greater scheme of things, anyway. The way Soren had just touched him, though, James hoped that he’d at least get some physical satisfaction before he went home. “My last long‐term lover fucked me over,” Soren said just as James lifted the first forkful of romaine to his mouth. “We lived together almost
75
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton four years before he left me for a guy with more money.” James coughed, nearly choking on his food. “What? More money?” He glanced into the big windows. “Shit.” Soren chuckled then nodded. “Yep. Left me for the CEO of a consulting firm. Apparently he didn’t like the fact that I wouldn’t buy him a new car every year.” Though Soren had a smile on his face, his eyes were hard, as was his tone. “I’m sorry,” James said for lack of anything better coming to mind. Soren shrugged. “Qué será, será.” Was Soren actually over said lover? “How long ago...?” Soren reached for his beer. “A little over a year. No big deal.” James didn’t believe him, but he wouldn’t push. The last thing he wanted right now was to upset Soren or piss him off. “So. Tell me about the dragon,” he said, watching the intricately scaled beast writhe with each movement of Soren’s arm. Soren glanced at his arm then grinned. “When I was incredibly young and stupid, rebelling against parents that didn’t accept my lifestyle, I had the name of my first long‐term lover tattooed right here.” He pointed to a spot on his shoulder. “We lasted about six months after I did that, and then I was stuck with his name—Christopher—with the whole heart and knife and...” He chuckled and shook his head. “Well, first thing I did when I started making money after college was find a quality tattoo artist and have it covered.” He shrugged and took a bite of his salad. “Why a dragon, and why so big?” James had never had an urge to permanently mark himself, but he’d always found them attractive on men. Soren’s was very sexy. “I was born in ’64, the year of the dragon.” He stretched out his arm and flexed his bicep. “I’ve always loved the look of the Asian dragon. Sleek, sexy, dangerous.” James knew the Eastern Zodiac, because Peggy had been into all that stuff. Dragons, if he recalled, were supposed to be short tempered and stubborn, yet tender‐hearted. James could believe those things about Soren; he’d witnessed them. “I’m a rat.”
76
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren chuckled. “Are you now? I think rats are compatible with dragons. Let me grab the steaks.” He got up and went to the grill. James polished off his salad. He wasn’t much for rabbit food, instead preferring steak and potatoes, but whatever dressing was on this wasn’t bad. And it had lots of cherry tomatoes. He loved tomatoes. Soren set the platter with two thick steaks on the table. “Take your pick. I’ll grab us another couple beers.” He went inside, and James helped himself to the top steak. It was tender and juicy, and when he took that first bite, it nearly melted in his mouth. “Oh, damn,” he sighed after he swallowed. Soren sat back down and set the beers on the table. “Good?” “Mmm. Thank you. Yes. It’s awesome.” Soren forked the other steak onto his plate and cut into it. “How about a Jacuzzi after dinner?” James shut his eyes and chewed the second mouthful of the steak. Damn, it was good. Then Soren’s words got to his brain. A Jacuzzi? Yeah, he was up for it. He wasn’t naïve enough to think that they’d have a Jacuzzi together and not have sex. He nodded and met Soren’s gaze. “Sounds good to me.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Nine They ate and talked about nothing in general. James was surprised, once he did the math, that Soren was over forty. He didn’t look it. James wouldn’t have thought him any older than himself. He was vibrant and handsome and hadn’t a single sprinkle of gray in his hair, unlike James who saw at least a new one every day at his temples. The sound of crickets and rolling waves was the perfect backdrop to their quiet conversation. James wished the night would never end. For the first time in a really long time, he relaxed. Completely. Good food. Imported beer. No pressures and nothing to think about except relaying memories of childhood and the horrible teen years. “I was voted homecoming king my senior year after we smeared Xavier High at the game.” James raised an eyebrow. “You were on the team?” Soren grinned. “Star quarterback.” “I was on the track team but never made it off junior varsity.” James shrugged. “I only joined the team because I’m not coordinated enough to play real team sports.” He chuckled. “I have no depth perception, which means anything involving catching, throwing, or hitting a ball is pretty much out of the question.” Soren shrugged. “Sports aren’t everything. I bet you were on the honor roll, though, weren’t you?” James grinned. “Three‐point‐nine GPA. I think the only thing that kept me out of the chess club was that Dad needed me at the store after
78
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton school.” “How’d you do track then?” “We practiced before school.” Soren laughed. “A geek, huh?” Nodding, James said, “Uh huh. Well...not really. I was an introvert and, to tell the truth, the only thing Dad put more stock in than working at the store was doing homework. I don’t think I really had a choice. There wasn’t a whole lot of time for friends or anything else. And Peggy was a definite nerd...” He shrugged again and drained the last of his beer. “I hated high school.” Soren stood and stacked the plates. “I was the star of the football team and had any girl I could want. Even fucked a few of the cheerleaders just to prove I was a man.” He stopped and bored a hard stare into James. “I just didn’t want any of them. I would not repeat that time in my life for anything.” James understood. Even Soren, who seemed so confident in everything he did and knew exactly who he was, had struggled. Soren leaned over and planted a soft kiss on his lips, startling him. When he pulled away, he was smiling. “Don’t look so shell shocked.” James chuckled and looked away to hide his sudden nervousness. “I’ll take these in,” Soren said as he lifted the dishes, “and grab a couple towels. Why don’t you climb into the hot tub? I’ll be out in a couple minutes.” James’ only response was to nod as Soren turned and walked back into the house. His heart thudded, and excitement bloomed deep inside of him. This was what he wanted more than anything. Taking his beer with him, he went over to the hot tub and toed off his shoes. He glanced to the left and right, checking to see if there was anyone who could see onto the deck, but tall privacy walls separated the houses. Unless someone was down on the beach, and he couldn’t see anyone in the moonlight, they could do anything they wanted on this deck and not be noticed. He pulled his shirt over his head, tossed it on a nearby lounger, then pulled off his socks and dropped his jeans and underwear. The cool
79
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton breeze licked over his skin, making goose bumps rise and a thrill skitter down his spine. He’d never done this before. Not even with his wife. They’d led a very Puritan sex life. Lights off, under the covers, missionary position. On special occasions, if he was lucky and had done something to please her, he got a blowjob. The few times he’d gone down on her, she’d told him he didn’t know what he was doing, and it was a waste of time. So, skinny‐dipping in a Jacuzzi with a sexy‐as‐hell man, knowing that said man was going to fuck him up the ass... He grinned and slipped into the hot water. His skin tingled from both heat and excitement. The lights in the house went off, sending James into darkness, yet within seconds his eyes adjusted to the soft moonlight. When he turned at the sound of the patio door shutting, he saw Soren. Naked. He carried two thick, folded towels to the edge of the hot tub and dropped them to the tiles. His bare body was so beautiful. All hard angles and rippling muscle. His cock was thick even in its flaccid state. “You want me to turn on the jets?” Soren asked. “I don’t care,” James answered honestly. All he wanted was for Soren to join him. Soren chuckled and walked to the wall where he pressed a button on a small control panel. The Jacuzzi came to life with roiling bubbles. James leaned back against a jet and let it massage his lower back. Soren came to his side and stepped down into the water, then sat so close their arms and thighs rubbed against one another. Soren raised his arms along the edge of the Jacuzzi and dropped his head back with a long sigh. “It’s better than Katriona’s English garden, isn’t it?” James looked up to see thousands of stars and the moon hanging over the ocean. “Mmm hmm.” But he didn’t care where he was, as long as Soren was there. “Are we done with the small talk?” Soren asked, raising his hand to touch the back of James’ neck, sweep his fingers through his hair. James closed his eyes, reveling in the tender touch, even as his body responded to the sensual meaning behind Soren’s question. “Mmm hmm.” “Touch me,” Soren said, his voice barely audible over the roiling

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton water. James didn’t need to be told twice. He turned slightly and reached between Soren’s legs, cupping Soren’s heavy sac, at the same time leaning over enough to kiss Soren’s neck, to nibble on the thick tendons. Soren sucked in his breath through his teeth, and his cock grew long and thick against James’ wrist. His hand tightened in James’ hair. “Yeah,” he said on a sigh. James nipped and nibbled his way up to Soren’s ear, sucked the lobe between his teeth, then inched his way along Soren’s jaw until his lips were nearly touching Soren’s. Soren didn’t move, and when his eyes opened, his dark blue gaze snared James’. Shifting his hand from balls to cock, James stared into his lover’s eyes and watched the pleasure play over his features. His own dick was hard, bobbing in the water, begging for attention, but he’d pleasure Soren if that was what he needed to do. If he could be the submissive Soren wished for, would he...keep him...for a while? James dropped his gaze, and his heartbeat spiked. He thrilled in the thought of giving Soren whatever he wanted. Fighting the embarrassment that tried to stop him, he let out a slow breath, then asked, “What is it you wish for...Sir?” Soren didn’t move, didn’t answer, and James wondered if he shouldn’t have gone so far. Would Soren think he was pretending? He wasn’t. He did want to please him. And for the first time, he realized something Travis had told him that he never understood. A sub was supposed to want to please their master to the exclusion of all else, up to and including their own pleasure. For the first time, James realized that he’d be willing to do that for Soren. The emotions he had for Soren were deeper than sex. Much deeper. When Soren surged out of the water to sit on the edge of the hot tub, James jerked back, afraid he’d angered him. There was no mistaking that Soren was still fully aroused. His gorgeous, thick cock was shiny with water and stood out proud. “Suck my cock,” Soren demanded, his voice hard, the Dom coming out to play.
81
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton The thrill shot through James, and he scooted forward until he knelt between Soren’s thighs, and then he dipped forward and sucked Soren’s cock deep into his mouth. Soren grunted and grabbed his head, showing him the motion, the depth, which would satisfy him. James sucked and licked, rolled his tongue around the soft tip of his dick, and then took him deep to the back of his throat. He cupped Soren’s balls and rolled them gently. A drip of pre‐cum spurred his own arousal, and he reached down to grab his own cock, pumping it in the same rhythm as he bobbed his head over Soren. Soren shoved him back and glared, his breath sawing in and out, his chest heaving with each harsh pant. He gripped the edge of the hot tub so tight his knuckles whitened. “What the fuck, James? One second you’re submissive and make me think that’s what you want, the next you’re trying to jack off while sucking my cock. What is it you want? Do you want to submit to me, or do you just want me to fuck you?” He slid into the water and grabbed James by the shoulders, physically hauled him up and turned him around, bending him over the edge of the tub. His hard cock pressed against James’ ass, but he didn’t try to penetrate. At the same time, he held him face‐down against the hard, cool tiles. “Is this all you want? You want me to fuck you? You want to get your rocks off and that’s it?” Soren pressed against his ass, but James didn’t fight. He wanted it. Craved it. Craved Soren. Needed him. “Answer me, damn you!” “I don’t know!” James shouted and jerked away from Soren’s grip, sloshing down in the tub when he lost his balance. “I don’t fucking know what I want!” He surged to his feet until he stood toe‐to‐toe with Soren. “You’re the one who invited me here. Take me as I am or don’t take me at all.” “Is submission all a game to you? You say you’re not a slave, which is obvious, but I don’t think you’re submissive at all. You just happen to like a dick up your ass. That’s not submissive, that’s just being a bottom during gay sex.” “Fuck you.” James shoved against Soren’s chest, which barely
82
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton budged the bigger man, then turned to climb out of the Jacuzzi. He didn’t need this shit. Soren grabbed his forearm and pulled him back around. James stumbled and landed hard on his knees in the middle of the tub. Soren’s hand went into his hair and pulled him forward until he was face‐to‐cock with Soren’s still rock‐hard penis. “Suck me and don’t fucking touch yourself unless I tell you to.” In the back of James’ mind, he knew he should feel panic, or anger, or any other emotions besides the hard, driving lust coursing through him. He leaned forward and sucked Soren’s cock in deep, hard, rough. Soren’s fingers tightened against his scalp. “Hurt me, and you will be punished.” James could barely breathe. His cock throbbed in painful need for release, but he had a feeling if he did as told, Soren would make it better than what he could do with his own hand. He gentled his mouth and glided over Soren’s dick with gentle pressure, taking him deep with each long stroke. “That’s it, my pet,” Soren said, his voice just barely loud enough to hear over the bubbling water surrounding him. His pet. Soren’s pet. Something inside James shifted right then. He couldn’t name it, couldn’t describe it if he had to, but it was something deep and profound. His urge was to thank Soren for whatever it was he’d just given him—this sense of rightness—but with the man’s dick in his mouth, that was a bit difficult. Instead, he raised his hands from his sides and skimmed them up the backs of Soren’s thighs. Soren’s muscles rippled and flexed under his touch, but the soft moan was all the encouragement James needed. He curled his fingers so his short nails skimmed over Soren’s ass cheeks. Soren grunted and thrust his hips once. James took him to the back of his throat and, remembering the motion that had pushed him over the edge when Soren sucked him off, he swallowed. Soren grunted again, his buttocks flexing. “Do it again,” he demanded. James slipped his fingers between Soren’s ass cheeks, sliding a
83
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton fingertip against his anus, and swallowed his cock. “Again,” Soren said between clenched teeth, both hands in James’ hair, his cock swelling even harder inside James’ mouth. James slipped the tip of his finger into Soren’s ass and swallowed again. Soren came with a long groan, his entire body flexing hard. James swallowed his tangy cum, reveling in the strength Soren tempered. Soren had the ability to literally rip off his head if he wished, but he was gentle. The fingers in his hair eased until they caressed. James licked and softly suckled Soren’s cock as it slowly softened. He ran his hands over Soren’s ass, loving the feel of his muscles, the tight roundness, then down the backs of his thighs. “Stand up,” Soren said, his voice hard, commanding. James complied, renewed excitement coursing through him because he had no idea what would come next, but he looked forward to whatever lesson Soren wanted to teach him. Soren said, “Look at me.” When James shifted his gaze from Soren’s chest to his face, his heart sank and anger replaced the arousal. He knew that look. Fisting his hands, wanting to punch the fucker out, he sneered. “You’re a goddamn asshole.” He turned and leaped out of the tub. “I can’t believe I fucking fell for it again.” He grabbed up one of the towels. A strip of rubbers and a tube of lubricant fell to the tiles. He swiped the towel over his face and chest then grabbed for his shirt on the lounger. When he pulled the shirt down over his head, Soren was standing right in front of him. “What the hell are you talking about?” Soren demanded. “Where do you think you’re going?” “I’m getting the fuck out of here before you command it.” He bent to pull on his briefs and nearly landed on his face. Soren grabbed his arms to steady him, but he jerked away and finished pulling them up. “I’m such a moron. A total, complete, moron.” “I’m not going to tell you to leave.” Soren grabbed his shoulders, long, blunt fingers digging in. “Goddamn it, James, what the fuck are you
84
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton doing?” James broke away and picked up his jeans. “That look. That fucking look you get after you come. We’re three‐for‐three now, but believe me when I say there won’t be a fourth.” He shoved one leg into his jeans, struggling it over his wet flesh. “It’s the ‘what did I just do’ look. One of those ‘oh shit’ looks that a person gets when they know they’ve royally fucked up.” Soren grabbed him, shoved him up against one of the Grecian columns, and attacked his lips, sinking his tongue deep into James’ mouth. James fought for only a second before he fell into the hot, wet kiss. He groaned as his cock sprang back to life with only the thin pair of underwear separating his body from Soren’s. When Soren broke the kiss, they were both panting. “It might have been an ‘oh shit’ look, but it wasn’t meant to send you away.” He sucked the tender flesh under James’ ear, his hot breath tickling James’ flesh. “Then what was it?” James asked, fighting the overwhelming attraction—the lust. Fighting it because he didn’t believe it. Didn’t believe Soren wouldn’t shove him out the door. “It was, ‘oh shit, where have you been all my life?’” Soren kissed him again, this time more gently. “Oh shit, I want this man.” Soren’s hands loosened on his shoulders and skimmed down his arms until their fingers laced together. “Oh shit,” he whispered. “I’m falling in love.” James rested his forehead against Soren’s. “You can’t be. I’m not what you want.” “I think you are.” He shook his head in denial. “Did my commanding you turn you on?” “Yes,” James whispered. “Why?” “Because...” He had to think about it, which was difficult with Soren’s body pressed against his, James’ throbbing cock squeezed between their bodies. Why had he sucked Soren’s cock just now? “Who did you do it for?” Soren whispered in his ear. “You or me?” He’d done it for Soren. To please him. “You, but...”
85
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “What?” James shook his head. “Travis told me that a true sub doesn’t care about their own needs at all, that they will give and give and give and never expect to receive. I’m sorry, but I don’t work that way. I gave you the blowjob because you wanted it, but still, in the back of my mind, I figured if I did it, then you would...” Soren brushed his lips over his, cutting off his words, and most of his thoughts, at the same moment the timer on the wall clicked and the Jacuzzi went silent. “A good pet knows how to please his master,” Soren said, his voice low and sexy. “A good pet also knows when he’s pleased his master, the master rewards him.” Soren’s lips curved against his in a smile. “Then again, I did cook you supper.” James fought the smile, but he couldn’t hold it back. “It’s okay for a pet to have needs, baby. And to anticipate your master meeting those needs. The most important thing, though, is that you do not act on those needs without your master’s permission.” Soren kissed him again, and James wrapped his arms around Soren’s shoulders, holding him close. “I don’t know if you’re ready to truly submit or not,” Soren said when he pulled back. James swallowed the lump forming in his throat. Soren had said he was falling in love. James wasn’t sure if he was ready to go that far. He cared for Soren in a way that defied logic, especially since they barely knew each other and, for all intent and purposes, were enemies because Soren worked for the man who wanted to buy his store, but... “Will you teach me?” he asked, his heart thudding against his breastbone. He realized he was stepping into new, scary, uncharted territory. He knew, though, that he wouldn’t do it with anyone else. Soren was special, and maybe James was falling in love with him, too. A slow smile tilted Soren’s lips. “It would be my honor.” “Then I’d like to try.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Ten Soren pulled away from James after giving his hands a squeeze. Asking to be trained was a huge step in any D/s relationship. James had submissive tendencies, he liked to be told what to do, but Soren wondered how far he could take it, just how much James would enjoy. “Let’s go inside,” he said to James, then bent and picked up the towels and other dropped items. James pulled up his pants, grabbed his shoes and socks, then followed him into the house. Soren locked the patio door and set the alarm before leading James down the hall into the master suite. The house wasn’t huge; it only had two bedrooms and an office, but the open plan and large, bright rooms gave off a sense of space. He’d designed it himself. “Shit,” James said as they stepped into the bedroom and Soren turned on the lights. A set of French doors led out to the deck, but Soren didn’t use it. Instead he had potted tropical plants and trees in front of the window, giving the bedroom a warm, jungle feel. The dark earth tones and deep greens he’d decorated in added to the sensation. “A fireplace in Florida?” James asked. Soren grinned. “It doesn’t give off heat. It’s only for ambiance.” He touched a button on the hearth and flames sprang to life behind the glass. Then he flipped off the overhead lights. “Come on. Let’s grab a shower.” James followed him into the spacious bathroom. “Shit,” he said
87
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton again. Soren grinned. He loved this room. He’d designed it in dark granite and black marble. Frosted glass windows on one wall let in bright light during the day and made it mystical at night—at least in his opinion. A two‐person whirlpool sat center stage. On either side was a vanity. His was covered in his toiletries, while the other stood empty. “Strip, pet,” he said, avoiding thoughts of James’ stuff taking up residence in his bathroom. He dropped the towels onto the shelf next to the walk‐in shower stall, then reached in and turned on the taps and adjusted the temperature. He was pleased to find James peeling off his shirt when he turned around. The man was too sexy for words—his body all long, lean muscle. Soren stuck the condoms and lube inside the shower stall on a shelf, then stepped inside and held out his hand for James. James stepped in without hesitation and turned a full circle. Five showerheads came out of the walls, all aimed at varying height on the body, and six were straight overhead, pouring down on them like a waterfall. Soren had designed this, too. “You like?” he asked, suppressing a chuckle at James’ look of awe. “Hell, yeah, I like.” James turned back to him, his face serious. “It’s a beautiful house. And I love this shower.” “Thank you.” Soren kissed him to keep from uttering the rest of what came to mind. Things like telling him if he moved in, he could use the shower anytime he wanted. He couldn’t believe he’d admitted to falling for James, but he couldn’t let James walk—no, storm—out thinking he didn’t want him. Because he did. With all his heart. He wanted to keep James whether the man wanted to be a sub or not. It wouldn’t matter if he wanted straight sex and the occasional blowjob. Soren truly loved the man. James broke the kiss and sucked in air. “What do you want from me, Sir?” he asked, his gaze on Soren’s chest. James was doing his best to control his urges, and Soren silently commended him for it. “I want you to tell me what you like, baby.” He turned James by the shoulders then pulled him back against his chest. As he ran his hands
88
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton over James’ chest, down his stomach, and then wrapped one around James’ long, solid cock, he whispered, “I want you to tell me what feels good, what doesn’t.” James groaned and bucked his hips once. Soren chuckled. “I take it that’s your signal for feels good?” James nodded and leaned back, relaxing against Soren’s chest. “Good. I like that.” He slowly stroked James’ cock, careful not to bring him too close to the edge. Soren wanted to be inside James before he let him come. “One of your duties as my pet is to never come until I tell you to. That means, no matter how good it feels...” He skimmed his thumb over the tip of James’ cock, at the same time pinching his nipple. James bucked and groaned louder, his cock throbbing in Soren’s hand. “That means,” he said, his voice more stern, “that you have to control your releases.” “Okay,” James said, his voice tight. “What was that?” He pinched the nipple hard this time, making James jerk upright and away. Soren held him tight, though. “How does a good pet respond to his master?” “Yes, Sir,” James said, his breathing choppy and labored. “That’s right. When we’re touching, when what we’re doing will lead to sex of any kind, you will always refer to me as Sir. If you fail to follow that rule, you will be punished.” To make his point, he gave James’ nipple another tweak. “Yes, Sir!” James said, his body jerking in response, but the length and width of his erect penis told Soren the pain wasn’t entirely unpleasurable. Soren’s own cock was hard enough to pound nails. The fact that he’d come less than a half hour ago didn’t seem to matter. All it took was one look, one touch from James, and he was ready. There’d never been any man he responded to so quickly. “Now, James,” he said, flicking his thumb over the other nipple. “Tell me what it is you’d like me to do to you.” “Fuck me, Sir.” “Ah, ah, ah. A good pet never demands. A good pet asks politely

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton for what they need.” James heaved in a few hard breaths. As Soren slid his palm down the length of James’ cock and cupped his sac, he knew James was close. Very, very close. His balls were drawn up tight, puckered. “Please, Sir,” James said, his head back on Soren’s shoulder, Soren’s cock trapped between their bodies. “I would like it...if it would please you...” He panted. “Please, Sir, would you fuck me?” “Not the most eloquently stated that I’ve heard,” Soren answered, suppressing a chuckle, “but we can work on that later.” He released James. “Grab a condom,” he instructed as he pushed a couple buttons on the wall near the tap that shut off most of the showerheads. The lube would wash away before it did any good if he left them on. James tore a pack off the strip of three. “Open it and roll it on me.” James did as instructed, and Soren had to fight the urge to thrust into James’ hand when he gently rolled the rubber over his dick. “Good. Now get the lube.” James picked up the bottle, flipped it open. “Put it in your palm and then rub it over the tip of my cock, then down the shaft. Make sure you have enough.” Again, James did as instructed. Soren watched to make sure there was enough. He didn’t want to hurt James. “Good. Now, put more in your hand and rub it on your own cock. Without question or hesitation, James did as instructed. Soren took the bottle from him, capped it, and stuck it back on the shelf. “Keep stroking your cock, baby, but don’t come.” “Yes, Sir.” Soren turned James to face the wall. “Put your left hand up here,” he said, guiding James’ hand and pressing it flat to the cold tile of the wall. “Lean forward a bit. That’s it. Keep stroking. Spread your legs more.” Soren nudged James’ right foot out. “Do you have a safe word?” Soren asked. James nodded. “Ice cube.”
90
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “And you know when to use it, only if something goes too far for you to handle?” He nodded again. “Yes, Sir.” Soren ran his hands down James’ sides, over his ass, then down his thighs. He felt James shudder, and he smiled. “How close are you, pet?” “Close, Sir.” James’ voice was strained. He slicked his fingers over his own cock, gathering a bit of the lubricant, and then slid it between James’ ass cheeks. James puckered at the first touch. “Relax, baby,” Soren said, leaning over so he could nip James’ shoulder. “I can’t fuck you if you’re scared.” “Sorry, Sir,” he said through clenched teeth. “You startled me.” Soren slid one, then two fingers into James’ ass. When James thrust back, silently begging for more, and let out a low groan, Soren pulled out and replaced his fingers with his cock. “Don’t come,” he said as he slowly, carefully pressed into James. “Aaagh.” James pumped his cock harder and pressed his cheek against the wall, pushing his ass toward Soren. “Don’t come,” Soren said again, but the words were directed at himself now because James was so tight and perfect. Soren reached around and laid his hands on the wall on either side of James. He didn’t want to hold on to James in case he needed to get away. He was still too new to this to restrain him in any way, but... “Ahhh...” he slid all the way into the tight heat.” “Soren,” James gasped. “It’s... I can’t...” “Don’t come,” Soren growled and slapped his ass. “What did you call me?” “Sir! Please...” Soren pulled back and then slammed in deep. James shouted and pumped harder. Soren knew James couldn’t hold out long. Hell, he wouldn’t be able to last. “What do you need, pet?” In a move that surprised and pleased him, James let go of his cock, reached up, grabbed Soren’s hand off the wall, and pulled it down.
91
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Please, Sir,” he said as he gasped and thrust back against Soren. “I want you to touch me and fuck me and come inside me.” If he thought he’d been falling in love before, he tumbled into the abyss at James’ request, and Soren surrendered himself. He was the Dom, but James held his heart. He could only pray James would be more gentle than the last man he’d given it to. He wrapped his hand around James’ slick cock and pumped hard as he drew back and slammed in again. James brought up both hands to brace himself against the wall, bending over farther. Soren held his hip in his other hand and picked up his pace, stroking James’ cock and pounding into his ass. James grunted on each press, each one louder than the last. When Soren felt James cock expand, harden even more, he knew it was time, and he needed his own release. “James,” he said, his breath sawing in and out. “Come now, baby.” With a shout, James pressed back against him, taking him deep. James’ inner muscles contracted as did his cock, and Soren came with a shout, pressing in even harder, farther, than he’d ever been with another man. James sank to his knees, his cheek pressed against the tile. Soren leaned over him, supporting himself against the wall. “Thank you, Sir,” James whispered. “But I think you just killed me.” Soren chuckled, which turned into a laugh, and goddamn, it felt good. He reached over and turned on the showerheads, then held out his hand to James. “Get up here, baby.” James let Soren pull him to his feet and went into Soren’s embrace without a moment’s hesitation, kissing him slow and deep as the warm water flowed over them. “You’ll spend the night?” Soren asked when he pulled back and reached for the soap. James didn’t say anything for a minute, but when Soren looked back at him, he nodded. “Yes, Sir. I’d like that.” Soren grinned. “Then do I have plans for you.”
92
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton * * * * * “I don’t know about this,” James said as Soren secured one of his hands to the wrought iron headboard with a cloth‐lined cuff. Soren ran his hand down James’ back then swatted his butt. James grunted and pressed his hips into the mattress, which led Soren to believe he did like a little pain now and then. “You have your safe word,” he said, then leaned over and bit one luscious cheek. James was too sexy for his own good. He’d be lucky if Soren let him sleep at all tonight. “So what are you going to do with me, Sir?” Soren rounded the bed and snapped the other cuff onto the headboard. “Isn’t that part of the excitement?” Soren asked. “Not knowing what’s coming?” “Uh...maybe, Sir. But it’s kind of intimidating.” Once James’ other hand was secured, Soren climbed up on the high bed and spread James’ legs wide. “First,” he said as he ran his finger between James’ butt cheeks, skimming over his anus with just enough pressure to make James groan. “You need to know, and trust, that I will not harm you. Also, your safe word is sacred. You utter it at any time, no matter what I’m doing, and I’ll stop. I have never mistreated a sub, nor have I ever broken their trust.” “Yes, Sir,” James said, and Soren felt him relax a bit. “Now, the question is, just how much pain do you find enjoyable?” “What?” James jerked against the bindings and squirmed so he could look over his shoulder at Soren. Soren shrugged. “I need to know these things.” He grinned and swatted James’ ass again. James grunted and dropped his head back to the mattress. “Is your cock hard yet?” Soren inquired. “Yes, Sir.” “Would my pet like more pain?” James chuckled but answered, “Yes, please, Sir.” “You are a good pet,” he said and raised his hand for another swat,
93
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton but the phone rang. “Hold that thought,” he said and reached over James to grab the phone off the nightstand. James groaned. Soren kissed his shoulder with a laugh, then stretched out next to him and hit the Talk button. “Sorensen” “Richard, Chester here. Did you talk to Williams today?” Soren glanced at James. Since he intended to resign from Chester’s employ anyway... “Yes, sir, I did.” “Well? Did he agree?” Soren rolled his eyes. If the guy had agreed, wouldn’t Soren have called him? “How did you get my home number?” he asked. His home phone was unlisted. “Answer my question, Sorensen.” “No, sir. He’s adamant about not selling. I think you’d be best to move on to some other property.” James opened his eyes and looked up at him. “Carson?” he mouthed. Soren nodded. James shook his head and closed his eyes again. “I’m not selling,” he whispered. “No matter how much you torture me.” Soren bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing. “I don’t want some other property. I want Willams’. If you won’t get it for me, I’ll do it myself.” “Sir—” The line went dead. “Well. He’s not a happy camper.” Soren tossed the phone onto the nightstand then leaned down and kissed James. “But I’ve got you here for the night, so I couldn’t care less. And torture does sound rather fun.”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Eleven James woke up to bright sunlight streaming in the window, trying to blind him. He rolled over and pulled the covers up over his head. The warm, soft, down comforter was not his own. He pushed the covers down and sat up. Nope, definitely not his bedroom. He glanced around, looking for Soren, but the room was empty. What did he expect? To wake up in Soren’s arms? “Ha,” he mumbled as he stood up and went into the bathroom to take a leak. While he was in there, he hopped in the shower and soaped and shampooed, then got dressed—his clothes were still heaped where he’d dropped them the night before. Disgusted with the disappointment he felt, he headed through the house to the front door. He would just let himself out and not— “’Mornin’, babe. Coffee? I was just about to wake you.” Soren stood in the hallway, holding two mugs of coffee, wearing a black terrycloth robe. Damn, he looked good all rumpled from sleep. James cleared his throat. “Thanks.” He took the coffee and followed James out onto the patio table where a plate of cut up fruit sat, and another plate of toast and eggs and bacon. “Go ahead. I already ate.” “What time is it?” James asked as he sat down. Soren sat next to him, slouched into the chair, and sipped his coffee. “Just after seven. You sleep okay?” James nodded and built a sandwich of the eggs and bacon between
95
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton the slices of toast. Soren chuckled, making James glance at him. “Sorry. I haven’t seen anyone do that since college.” James shrugged. “I never went to college, so I guess I never outgrew it.” “Mr. Three‐point‐nine GPA never went to college?” Soren sipped his coffee again. “I figured you’d have scholarships handed to you on gold platters.” James chewed his food then swallowed. “I grew up working in the store. I started doing the books when I was fourteen. Why would I need college when I was groomed to take over Williams’ Hardware my entire life?” He took another bite, but the bitterness of his thoughts made the food less tasty. He swallowed. “Sorry. That sounded a little...” He sighed. “It was my choice, but Dad made me feel guilty for even wanting to leave to go to college. A waste of time and money, even though you’re right, I did have offers of several scholarships.” Soren leaned forward. “Can I ask you something? As your friend, not a lawyer working for Carson.” James shrugged and took another bite of food. “Guess so.” “Why don’t you want to sell? What’s holding you back from moving forward?” “Moving forward to what?” He dropped the half‐eaten sandwich on the plate. “I have nothing else. I grew up in that store, and it’s all I know. What else is there for me? Go to work for someone else?” He shook his head. “Who’d hire me? What are my qualifications? Running a little hardware store that can barely turn enough of a profit to pay the utilities?” James shoved to his feet, hating the self‐pity that swamped him. He put so many hours into that place that the one time he tried taking night school, he’d damn near flunked out. “I have to get to work,” he said. “Thanks for breakfast and—” Soren grabbed his wrist. “Not so fast.” He set his coffee mug down then stood up. “There’s no reason to get so defensive with me. I was just asking a question.” Soren touched his cheek then pulled him close for a kiss. “The other side of it, though...” Soren motioned for him to sit back
96
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton down, and James complied. “...is that Carson is willing to double the original offer. If you decided to sell, I could probably convince him to go another fifty percent higher. You could do a hell of a lot with that kind of money, including never working again, if that’s what you chose.” James snorted. “I’d go nuts within a week if I didn’t have anything to do. But besides that...” “Tell me.” “I’d be afraid to do anything with the money. Pop is going to need it. That nursing home is eating up his retirement like a piranha. I keep thinking...” He shook his head. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t. He knew he’d have to sell eventually, he just wanted to do it on his timeline, not some jackass’ from a New York corporation. “What?” “Three times the original offer?” That would take care of Pop and give him enough to live off of to figure out what the hell to do with himself. Shit. All he knew was hardware though. And building. He could go into construction, or maybe remodeling if... That wouldn’t be too bad. Why hadn’t he thought of that before? What would it take to get a contractor’s license? “I can try. Can’t guarantee it, but Carson seriously wants your property.” James shook his head. The whole idea was scary. “I can’t decide right this second. I really do have to get to the store.” “No way you can take the day off?” James frowned. “I...uh...” He never took a day off. Ever. Not since Dad died. Not unless he had to take Pop to the doctor. Soren raised an eyebrow. “Is that a maybe?” “What did you have in mind?” Soren’s grin was playful. “How about a drive over to the gulf? I have a friend who has a boat. We could do some fishing. You like fishing?” James nodded. “Yeah, but haven’t been in years.” “Well? Can you play hooky?” Soren stood up. “Come on. One day.” He grinned and held out his hand for James. “Maybe two, since
97
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton tomorrow’s Sunday and I know your store is closed.” James slipped his hand into Soren’s and stood up. “Okay. Yes.” He smiled. “Yes. It sounds fun.” Soren kissed him, and James closed his eyes, melting into Soren’s gentle embrace and questing mouth. Memories of last night came rushing back to him, and his cock grew thick. He groaned when Soren’s hand slid down between them and he brushed his knuckles against James’ hard‐on. Even through the denim, the contact was stunning. Soren broke the kiss with a chuckle. “Does my pet like a little petting in the morning?” James chuckled. “Um. Yes, Sir. But I have to call Aaron to see if he can man the store without me today.” “Okay.” Soren kissed him one more time. “Stay here. I’ll bring you the phone. You can finish breakfast while I get ready, since you already showered.” Soren winked. James settled back into his chair and picked up his sandwich. He thanked Soren when he handed him the phone, then watched his back, admiring the way the robe pulled tight across his ass, as he went back inside. He finished off the sandwich, grabbed a few pieces of grapefruit, and dialed Aaron’s house. “Hello?” “Hey, Aaron, it’s James. I was wonder—” “Where the hell have you been? We’ve been trying to get a hold of you all night.” A trickle of fear ran down his spine at Aaron’s panicked voice. “What’s happened?” “You don’t know? God, it’s on the news and everything.” “What? Is Pop okay? Did the nursing home—” “The store, James. There was a fire.” “What?” “It’s a total write off. Everything, James. I went down there an hour ago. The police are looking for you. They say it’s arson, but they’ve got a guy in custody. I’ve been calling you since about two this morning.” The food James had just eaten threatened to return. He swallowed
98
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton hard. “I’ll head down there now.” He stood up but felt a little dizzy. “I’ll meet you there.” James hung up the phone and set it on the table. Panic welled through him and, for a minute, he didn’t know if he was going to puke or pass out. A total write off. “Oh, fuck,” he said on a breath. “Holy fuck. I’m not insured.” * * * * * Soren drove quickly, but carefully, through downtown. James looked almost catatonic sitting in the passenger seat, staring out the side window. He hadn’t said a word since he pulled open the shower door and said the store was gone. Three blocks away, he saw the street barricades and the fire trucks. Shit. His stomach fell. He got up as close as he could before pulling over to the curb. Without a word, James stepped out of the car and headed toward his store. Soren locked the car then followed. The uniformed cop stopped James. “Sorry, sir, we can’t let anyone—” “That’s my store,” he said, his voice cracking. “What the hell happened?” “You’re James Williams?” James nodded. “The detectives would like to speak to you.” Soren ducked under the Caution tape and followed. If it was arson, he was James’ only alibi. Not that James would torch his own store, anyway, because it wasn’t insured, so it wouldn’t do a hell of a lot of good. Soren fisted his hands at his sides. He had a really bad feeling he knew who had done it, and he was in one hell of a quandary because he still officially worked for the guy, and was his lawyer. “Detective Singhide,” the officer said, “This is James Williams, the owner.” The detective shook James’ hand. “I’m sorry about your loss, Mr.
99
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Williams. I’d like you to come down to the station to answer a few questions, if you wouldn’t mind.” The request wasn’t really a request. James nodded. “That’s fine.” He glanced at the burned out building and visibly blanched. “Are either of the other two building damaged?” he asked, visually inspecting the stores on either side of his. “No. A little smoke damage on the outside, but nothing major.” James nodded again. Soren put his hand on James’ shoulder, but he jerked away. The motion made Soren’s heart ache. He leaned over to whisper in James’ ear. “I’ll get you a lawyer. Don’t say anything until he gets to the police station.” James turned a scowl on him but didn’t respond. Soren doubted James had any idea that they were going to try to pin this on him. “This way, please,” the detective said, motioning James to an unmarked police car. “I mean it, James,” Soren said. “Not a word.” James turned away and slid into the backseat of the sedan when the detective held the door for him. * * * * * James sat in the captain’s office and glared at the wall. He’d answered all their questions, gave the name of his alibi, and seethed with fury. His stomach twisted in knots. Pain, anger, regret, embarrassment for his foolishness. He wanted to rip Soren’s fucking head off. The man in custody, captured less than an hour after someone called in the license plate of the vehicle leaving the back of the store at one in the morning, wasn’t talking. But he didn’t have to. It didn’t take a genius to put two and two together. Chester Carson knew he didn’t have insurance, and Soren had broken his hard and fast rule to get him to his house last night—kept him at his house. James feared he would puke on the captain’s desk. Captain Darlington came in and shut the door, rounded his desk and sat down. “Just a couple more questions, Mr. Williams. We got a hold
100
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton of Richard Sorensen, and he backs up your story about being with him all night, but could you tell me why you were with the lawyer of the man trying to buy out your business?” James looked him straight in the face and said, “Because we were having sex.” “I see.” James shook his head. This joker didn’t see anything. “Can I go?” He stood up and shoved his hands in his pockets. He needed to go home, lick his wounds, and figure out what the hell he was going to do now. “One last thing. The man we have in custody just told us he was hired to burn down your store, but he refuses to say who hired him. Any ideas?” “Chester Carson,” James said, then turned and walked out of the office. He had to get away. Had to get out and breathe some fresh air. He pushed through the glass double doors to the front of the police station and breathed in the humid heat. Sweat popped out on his forehead as he jogged down the steps. “James.” He spun around to see Soren coming down the steps behind him. He was in a suit, dark, with that red power tie. “You okay?” James turned away and headed for the street, intent on hailing a cab so he could go pick up his truck at Soren’s. Soren grabbed his arm. “Hey.” James jerked free and turned to swing, but caught himself just in time. Punching out a guy on the steps of the police station would be rather stupid. “Don’t... Get...” He gritted his teeth. “Fuck off. Clear enough for you?” “James, what’s—” “When this comes down and the guy they have in custody finally cracks and admits who hired him, I hope you go down hard.” James turned away and jogged to the street, holding up his hand to stop the first cab that drove by. “James, I didn’t have—”
101
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James slammed the door to the taxi, cutting off Soren’s lame denial. He gave Soren’s address to the cabbie and slumped down in the seat. He doubted he’d ever fucked up so badly in his life. He knew he hadn’t. There was no way out of this one. He ran through list after list of what ifs, but nothing mattered now. The business was gone, there was no insurance, and he was fucked. And in the process, he’d fucked Pop. All that was left was the house. He’d sell it. Put the money in trust for Pop’s care. It was the least he could do. Pop had built that house with his own hands; he deserved whatever James could get out of it. He wasn’t worried about himself. He’d survive. He’d flip burgers at a fast food joint if need be. He just couldn’t believe he’d so thoroughly bungled everything his family had entrusted to him. * * * * * Soren watched James’ cab pull away. His first reaction was anger, but understanding soon followed. James was hurting, and he was lashing out. Of course he’d assume Soren was involved. He worked for Carson. He’d spoken to Carson on the phone last night right in front of James. And he’d been the one to warn James that he didn’t trust Carson. James would be suspicious. Soren couldn’t blame him. But he was innocent here, and he’d prove it...somehow. He shook his head and headed down the sidewalk to his car. He hit the button to disengage the alarm and slipped behind the wheel. Okay, so, James was obviously in the clear because they had someone else in custody, Soren’s sworn statement that James had been with him, and they released James after questioning. James was off the hook, even if the man hadn’t been smart enough to wait for the attorney Soren had hired for him, in fact telling said lawyer to take a hike. But he knew James would be a suspect until the crime was solved, and there was no doubt in Soren’s mind that it had been a crime. There was also no doubt, as there obviously hadn’t been in James’ mind, that Chester Carson was behind it.
102
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Now, what did Soren need to do to get out from this sticky middle spot so he could stand behind James through this, help him financially and emotionally, and get Carson to pay for all of it? Legally. Shit. That was a tough one.
103
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Twelve Soren dialed James’ number and listened to the five rings. When the voicemail picked up, he hung up. Grabbing the remote from the coffee table, he turned up the volume on the television to watch the local news. Chester Carson had been arrested in connection to the arson of James’ store. Two weeks had passed since the fire, and James wouldn’t answer or return any of his calls. The one time James had actually picked up the phone, as soon as he’d heard Soren’s voice, he’d hung up. The only thing left to do was go over to his house in person, but what did he have to offer as proof of his innocence? His word. That was it. And goddamn it, he knew that wouldn’t fly with James. The fact that James had turned on him infuriated him. On the other hand, he understood. He’d be suspicious too, if the tables were turned. “CEO of Home Comfort has been arrested in connection with the arson of local hardware store, Williams’ Hardware. Charges have yet to be filed.” While the news droned on in the background, he went into his bedroom to get dressed. Another day at work, another day to try and figure out how to prove his innocence to James. Little was said about him in the news. Soren worried about him, his mental state, about his grandfather, about what he would do now that he didn’t have the family business to run. How was he going to financially make it? If Carson was charged with the crime, there would be basis for a
104
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton civil suit against him. Carson was loaded. James would need a good lawyer. Soren knew just the man for the job. His friend who lived in Ft. Meyers, the owner of the boat—the one he’d wanted to take James fishing on—was the best damn civil attorney in the state. And Soren would bet he’d be up for a good fight. * * * * * “Hey, Pop,” James said as he sat down at the table where his grandfather sat eating his lunch. “James, my boy!” Pop’s face lit up. “Where have you been?” Relief flowed through James so fast and hard it made him dizzy. For the first time in weeks, Pop recognized him. He smiled. “I’ve been busy, Pop. How are you feeling?” He hadn’t been able to come by and visit for three days, and the change in Pop was like a miracle. His eyes were bright and focused, his smile genuine. “Feeling good.” He lifted a spoon of what looked like watery cream of wheat. “The food could be better, but...” He grinned. “I’ve met someone.” James’ eyebrows shot up. “What?” Pop tilted his head. “She’s over there at that table of ladies. Her name’s Wanda Gentry. She’s only seventy, and she’s sweet on me.” James chuckled even as his eyes smarted. Pop was back, and he had a crush. “I’m happy for you, Pop.” “So, boy, were you going to tell me about the store?” A cold sweat popped out on James’ forehead. “Saw it on the news this morning that some rich guy from New York was arrested for burnin’ the place down. You didn’t feel I should know?” “Pop... You’ve been a little...” He swallowed. God, he’d hoped to never let Pop know how badly he’d fucked up. “Yeah, I know I’ve been a little out of it, but this is something I had a right to know, don’t you think?” “I’m sorry, Pop.” He slouched in the chair, ready to take the tirade
105
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton he figured was coming—one about responsibility and growing up, one that Pop and Dad had given him weekly when he was a teenager. “So, what’re you gonna do now?” Frowning, he looked up from the tabletop. “What do you mean?” Pop shrugged. “I heard on the news you’d let the insurance lapse— right idiot thing of you to do—so what are you going to do now?” “Don’t worry about it, Pop, I’ll—” “Got my bills to pay for this place, and don’t think I’m letting you off the hook for that. That store was to see me through my old age, and your daddy’s, too, if he’d lived longer.” James nodded, guilt eating a hole in his gut. “Don’t worry, Pop. I’m working on it.” “Working on what?” James didn’t want to tell him, dreaded telling him. “I’m selling the house. After I pay off the bit of reconstruction the two buildings next to the shop need, the rest will go into trust for your care.” Pop nodded. “What about the property the store is on?” “I’m selling that, too. I need to use a bit of that to pay for... I’m going to get my contractor’s license. I need some of the money from the sale of the land to survive on until I can get the license. I figure I can work construction to build up a nest egg. Maybe a year or so.” Pop rubbed his chin and nodded. “Sounds like you’ve thought it all out.” “Yes, sir. I have. It’s the only solution. I’m sorry I let you down and—” “You’ve never let me down, boy.” James looked into his grandfather’s dark brown eyes and saw his love, his kindness, and his respect. “Pop...” “You messed up with the insurance, but you’re fixing that. Making it right. And you’ve made plans.” He shook his head and looked away. “I know that store wasn’t what you wanted your life to be. Your father and I argued over it numerous times when you were young.” “What are you talking about, Pop? That store is all I’ve ever known.”
106
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Because your daddy loved it as much as I did, he expected you would, too. I told him to let you go off to college and find yourself whatever you needed.” He shook his head and clucked his tongue. “Instead, you married that bitch and settled for a life that wasn’t for you.” James folded his hands on the tabletop and sighed as weight lifted from his shoulders. “I never wanted to let you and Dad down. I wanted you two to be proud of me, but nothing ever worked out right. I never did it good enough.” “Your dad expected too much of the wrong thing, boy. And I was just your old granddad. What did I know?” James shook his head in denial. “I love you, Pop. And...and I hate that you’re here. You should be home with me, but I just can’t—” “I belong here, son. I’m happy, and the doctors are taking good care of me. And Wanda’s sweet on me,” he added with a teasing grin and a slight blush coloring his pale cheeks. James stood up and then bent down to hug his grandfather. “I love you, Pop.” Pop patted his arm. “I love you, too, boy.” After James sat back down, Pop looked at him with serious eyes. “It’s time for you to do what you need to do. Maybe losing the store was the best thing. Now you’re free to go and pursue your own happiness. Start over. Find what you need.” An image of Soren, standing on the tiled deck, naked in the moonlight, flashed in his mind. He closed his eyes and fought the image back, but it was burned into his brain. He missed the traitorous asshole. For that one night, James had finally felt free to be who he was, and he’d felt loved. But that love was a lie. “I gotta tell you somethin’, Pop.” He reached across the table and covered Pop’s hand with his. “I’m never going to get married again. My marriage with Peggy didn’t last because...” Pop made a face. “I figured.” He pulled his hand from beneath James’. “I seen how you look at some...” He leaned close and whispered, “Men. You’re one of them, aren’t you?”

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James nodded. Pop folded his arms over his chest and stared at him. James wanted to squirm, but he met his grandfather’s gaze evenly and waited for the axe to fall. He was done hiding who he was. Maybe things hadn’t worked out with Soren, but someday, he hoped, he’d find another man he could love. “Well,” Pop said, looking resigned. “I guess I can’t choose my family. And other than that, you’ve been a good grandson.” He shrugged. “I guess I can live with it as long as I don’t have to see any...” He leaned forward again, dropping his voice. “I wanna meet him, mind you, ’cuz I wanna know what kinda person you’re with—that’s my right as your only living relative—but I don’t wanna know what you do with him.” James burst out laughing. “It’s a deal, Pop. But there isn’t anyone right now.” Pop nodded and leaned back in his chair. “Well, good then. But when there is, you bring him by to see me.” “It’s a deal, but one more thing.” Pop raised a bushy white eyebrow in question. “If you get it on with Wanda, I don’t want to hear any details.” Pop chuckled, his grin big and happy. He nodded. “Deal.” * * * * * “Mr. Sorensen,” Tami said over the intercom. “Mr. Carson on line one.” Soren stared at the phone for a moment, wondering why Carson would call him now, after being arrested. He hit the button to record the call, as he did most of the time with clients, and lifted the receiver. “Sorensen,” he said. “Richard, I need you down here at the police station. That moron told the cops I paid him to burn down that store.” Soren’s heart leaped at the implications. He gripped the phone and leaned back in his chair. “I’m sorry, sir, I’m afraid I don’t quite understand.” “I need a local attorney, and you’re the one I want. You’re a go‐to
108
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton guy. You can get the charges dropped. The only proof they have is this asshole’s word against mine.” Soren licked his lips. “Did you hire that man?” There was a long pause. “Does it matter?” “Sir, I’m not going to defend you if you’re not honest with me; that’s the one thing I demand from my clients.” Another pause. “I told you if you didn’t get Williams to sign the contract, I’d do it my own way.” Close, but not quite. “And your way was to hire someone to burn the store down? The one you wanted so badly?” “Hell, no. He was supposed to damage the place, just enough so Williams couldn’t afford to rebuild since he didn’t have any insurance. That jackass torched the motherfucker to the ground. I wanted the store and the property, not some empty lot. I could find that anywhere.” Soren’s grin was so big his cheeks ached. “That is a shame, isn’t it, sir?” “Damn straight. And now the little prick has decided to point fingers, even though—anyway, that’s beside the point. I need you down here now. They keep trying to question me, but I’ve refused to say anything. They finally gave me my phone call.” “Well, Chester. I’m sorry to inform you that I do not do criminal defense. I’m a litigation lawyer, and I don’t feel I’m qualified to represent you. You’ll have to look elsewhere.” “But... You’re my local lawyer. I can’t bring the company lawyers in on this. The board will oust me from my position.” Soren’s grin turned into a sneer of disgust. “Sorry about that, but maybe you should have thought about your position as head of a multi‐ billion dollar corporation before you came into my town and started fucking with hard‐working, middle‐class business owners.” Chester sputtered. “Consider this my resignation. Don’t call me again.” Soren reached over and hung up the phone, then pressed the button to stop recording. He had his proof now, but it couldn’t be used against Carson because he was technically still employed as his attorney when the
109
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton conversation took place. Ethics be damned, though, James would hear this. Popping out the cassette, he then opened his top drawer and pulled out a small micro cassette player. He glanced at the piles of papers on his desk, work that needed to be done, but right this second, James was the only thing that mattered. Getting James to understand he knew nothing of Chester’s dirty schemes. And then what? He sat down hard in his chair. Yeah, then what? He’d spent the last two weeks sleeping alone in his big bed, wishing and fantasizing that James was there with him. Waking in the middle of the night, reaching for his lover, only to find cold, empty sheets. He loved James, but was he ready for the next step? Could he let someone—another man who had the power to rip his heart out and shred it—back into his life so fully? Swallowing the lump in his throat, he fiddled with the cassette player. If he didn’t go after James... Having James deny him these past two weeks was painful enough. If he went over there and laid his heart and soul out for James, and he refused, he wasn’t sure he’d be able to... Richard Sorensen was not a wimp. Goddamn it, he sounded like a sniffling girl. He was a man, and if James turned him away, he’d get over it. He got over Vance, hadn’t he? It might have taken a little while, but he’d moved on. But Vance had never looked at him with such unabashed yearning in his eyes. With a look of warmth and love and...and what? James had never admitted love. In fact, the morning he found out the store had been arsoned, he’d been on his way out the door without saying a word. He’d been cutting and running. Soren turned toward the window to look out at the city, and the bay in the near distance. He knew he was to blame for James’ fear, or denial, or whatever it was he felt toward him. The initial offence after their first introduction, coupled with telling James that their relationship couldn’t move outside of the club, didn’t bode well for the basis of a relationship. He’d never explained to James why he’d changed his mind

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton and invited him to his house. He sighed and pushed to his feet. There wasn’t much he could do but confront James, lay it out, and hope the man didn’t kick him out and refuse to ever see him again. He needed James to know he could rely on him, that he would be there to do everything he could to help him through everything. And he wanted James to be with him. Permanently. If he didn’t take the chance and open his heart one hundred percent, he’d never have what he truly wanted. He wanted James. Heart and soul. And the only way he could get it would be to offer the same in exchange.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Thirteen James hefted the cardboard box onto the tailgate of his pickup, then the other two from the dolly, and then he hopped up into the truck to stack them against the cab. This should be the last load, if his calculations were right. He only had two days to empty the house. The real estate agent called and they had a looker already, and the place had only been listed six hours. The attic had been crammed full of boxes and trunks of old clothes, photos and toys, all dating back to the fifties when the house was built. Some stuff was even older, things his grandparents had kept from their parents. For now, he would move everything into a rented storage unit. Someday he’d go through it and sort it, decide what should be kept and what wasn’t worth it. Boxes in place, he jumped down off the tailgate, grabbed the dolly, and headed back into the house. The place didn’t look the same with all the furniture gone. Empty, cold. All he’d left for now was his bed and a couple dishes and towels. He’d stay until it sold, then he’d have to...come up with something. He loaded three more heavy boxes onto the dolly. He had an idea for inexpensive living, but he wasn’t sure he could do it, afraid he’d go nuts in such a confined space, but it would be very inexpensive. He tipped the dolly and headed for the door. He stopped halfway there, pulled his T‐shirt over his head, and went back to the kitchen for a cup of ice water. The temperature had been hovering right around ninety‐
112
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton five for the past month, and he was mighty tired of it. A good hard rain would be nice. He chuckled. “After I’m done moving boxes, that is,” he said aloud then headed back to the front door. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Soren standing in the doorway dressed in those snug, worn jeans and a T‐shirt with torn out sleeves that showed off that incredible dragon tattoo. “Hey, James.” “Get out.” He grabbed the dolly and would have run right over Soren if he hadn’t moved. He rounded to the back of the truck and tossed the boxes onto the tailgate. “James. Hear me out.” He turned on Soren, hands fisted. “Why can’t you just...go away? Stop calling me. Stop leaving me messages. I want nothing to do with you. Get it through your thick head!” “Why?” “God, you’re a moron if you have to ask that question.” He jumped up into the back of the truck and moved the boxes. “I had nothing to do with the fire.” He stopped and glared down at Soren. The man was too fucking handsome. He wanted to believe him, dreamed of it being true, but there was no way he could ever trust him. Soren had lured him to his house on the night his store was burned to the ground. Too much coincidence. Way too much. “I have proof.” His heart stuttered. “What proof? The asshole was just arrested yesterday morning, not that I didn’t already figure he was behind it. But that just makes you more culpable, since you work for him.” “Can we go inside, please? I have something you need to hear, but not out here.” James narrowed his eyes. He feared if he let Soren too physically close, he’d cave. He might not trust the man, but he sure as hell was attracted to him. That one night at Soren’s house had been... He silently cursed himself for not being stronger where Soren was
113
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton concerned. He should hate the man with every inch of his being, not want to grab him and kiss him and beg him to take him, fuck him, make him his pet. “Fine. But this better be good.” He jumped down off the truck and stalked into the house, went straight to the kitchen, and leaned against the counter, crossing his arms. “Moving?” “Get on with it.” Soren pulled a micro cassette player out of his back pocket and laid it on the counter. “The proof is right there. You cannot use it in court, because at the time I worked for Carson—attorney/client privilege.” James shrugged. “What is it? I mean, you work for the guy, so why should I believe anything you say?” He fisted his hands so he didn’t reach for Soren. He wanted to believe, prayed the information—whatever information it was—would clear Soren. He wanted to be with him. Then again, why would Soren want to be with him? He was broke, jobless, a little clueless about his future. “What do you get out of this?” James asked, the words tripping off his tongue before he could stop them. Soren stepped up to him, going toe‐to‐toe with him, and raised his hands to cradle James’ face. James knew he should jerk away, move away, kick the man out of his house, but the touch felt so good, so right. “I’m hoping I get you.” James controlled his breathing and gritted his teeth, fighting the urge to lean into Soren’s hands, to close his eyes and let Soren do whatever the man wanted to do. “Back. Off.” Soren let go and held up his hands as if in surrender. “I love you, James. I told you that before, and I’m telling you again. I love you.” James shook his head. “I’m not what you want.” He shoved away from the counter and paced the length of the small kitchen. “Why me?” Soren’s lips quirked up into a half‐smile. “I’ve been asking myself that since the first night I met you. Why you? You challenge me. You make me feel for the first time in a long time. And I think we could have something good if we can both get past our hang‐ups.”
114
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton A dry, humorless laugh came out of James. “I don’t think you being part of me losing my business is a hang‐up.” Soren reached over to the tape player and turned it on. “That wasn’t one of the hang‐ups to which I referred,” he said, then walked out of the room. James listened to the conversation, instantly recognizing Chester Carson’s voice. By the time the tape came to the end of the call, James felt sick. Soren hadn’t known anything. Nothing at all. He’d been innocent. He went in search of Soren, hoping he hadn’t left, and found him sitting on the porch swing. James sat down next to him and pushed his foot against the floorboards to set it in motion. Neither spoke for a long time as they watched the cars drive by on the street. A bumblebee buzzed around the basket of flowers hanging from the porch roof, and waves of heat rose off Soren’s Jag sitting besides the curb on the street. Soren moved his hand from his own lap and gently laid it on James’ thigh. James took a deep breath, then slid his hand over Soren’s and laced their fingers. The silence went on until it became comfortable, and James closed his eyes to the glaring afternoon sunlight. His arm brushed Soren’s as the swing gently swayed. Soren’s fingers tightened around his, as if he was afraid James would try to pull away. When Soren spoke, his voice was low, gentle. “Remember when I told you about my last serious lover who left me for a man with more money?” James gave a slight nod, but didn’t open his eyes. “Mmm hmm.” “He was my first...pet. I met him at Incognito. When I got into the lifestyle and joined the club, I mostly stuck with slaves. They do everything I demand. I can fuck their brains out, and I didn’t have to be nice. They don’t care. All they want is to please their master.” James nodded. “Which is why I am not.” Soren’s chuckle was a soft, sensual sound. “I noticed.” “So why the switch up?” “Vance intrigued me. He was more forward in his advances. He pushed my limits almost as much as I pushed his. I loved him.”
115
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “So when you met me and found out I wasn’t a slave, you wanted nothing to do with me.” James finally opened his eyes and turned to look at Soren. “No, baby. That was the problem. I wanted you more than anything.” James shook his head more confused than ever. “Why?” “For weeks you sat at the bar and stared at me. I could feel you. And I missed it when you weren’t there.” Soren’s smile was sweet when he finally turned toward him. “I knew you weren’t a slave, or if you were you were a terrible one. But those dark, gorgeous, sad eyes of yours pulled at me until I finally gave in.” “Then why the...why’d you toss a twenty at me?” “Plain and simple. You scared the shit out of me. That night I wanted to take you home and tie you to my bed and never let you go. I panicked and turned into an ass.” James nodded in agreement. “And the next time? Even after the sex, and the walk, the talk, you said it couldn’t go on.” “I was using my employment with Carson as an excuse so it couldn’t continue, couldn’t leave the club. It’s true; ethically it was wrong of me to have anything to do with you on a personal level, but that was only an excuse. I never liked Carson from the beginning, and as far as I was concerned, once you said no to selling to him, that was the end of it.” “The night you invited me to your house?” Soren turned back to watching the street. “I’d been looking for you at the club for two weeks, but I wouldn’t let myself go in search of you. I figured if I never saw you again that was best for me and my heart, because after we spent those hours together, getting to know each other, I wanted to know more.” Soren turned and grinned, then swept his gaze over James’ bare chest. “Besides that, you’re one sexy son of a bitch.” James chuckled. “Thanks. I think.” With a sigh, Soren continued. “Carson called that afternoon and asked me to try again. I’d already decided if you said no, that I was resigning from Carson’s employ. When I saw you, saw the look in your
116
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton eyes, I knew that you were...everything. I was falling for you, and for once I was willing to take the chance.” Silence fell between them again, and James knew he needed to formulate an apology. He’d accused Soren, yet Soren hadn’t given up on him. “When you showed up at my house...” Soren made a rough sound that James couldn’t interpret. “I didn’t think you were going to show. I convinced myself it didn’t matter. And then you walked through the door, and I didn’t want you to ever leave. That scared me shitless, too.” James slowly exhaled. “I’m sorry I thought you were involved in the fire.” Soren nodded. “I was pissed at you at first, but I understood. It was my own fault for being—” “A jackass.” Soren chuckled and leaned into James’ arm a bit. “Admittedly.” After gathering up his courage, James pressed on. “I don’t think I’m ready for a relationship.” He swallowed hard, the lump in his throat growing as he formulated the words that needed to be said. “I’ve lost everything, including the house. No, I didn’t lose it, I’ve got to sell it to pay for Pop’s care, but that’s beside the point.” He pulled his hand free of Soren’s and slashed his fingers through his hair. “What I’m saying is that I...” He shrugged. “I’m kind of useless right now.” Soren leaned forward, turned his head, and gave James a narrow‐ eyed glare. “Excuse me?” James shoved off the swing in order to put space between them. This had to be said, had to be done. As much as he wanted to tug Soren into the house, into his bedroom, and make love for the rest of the afternoon, he couldn’t do it. “Wait a damn minute,” Soren said, sitting back and folding his arms. “What are you saying? You won’t date me because you can’t afford it?” James snorted. “I won’t date you because I’ve got nothing to offer, and it’s going to be a hell of a long time until I do. The house should sell pretty fast, but I don’t know about the lot the store was on. Until then, I’m
117
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton going to have to work construction.” “Really.” Soren pursed his lips. “And where, exactly, will you be living while you’re working construction?” James didn’t want to answer. Soren raised an eyebrow and waited. “I know a guy who’s selling a camper I can put on the back of my truck.” “Doesn’t that sound cozy?” The disgust was evident in Soren’s tone, and it infuriated James. “What the fuck am I supposed to do? Huh? I’ve got no income right now, and a ton of bills that need to be paid. If I can’t get the house sold within the month, I’m going to have to take out a loan to pay Pop’s expenses—if I can find a bank that’ll give me a loan after I was dumb enough to run a business with no insurance. I can’t afford rent. It’s the only way. I don’t have the luxury of having your money.” Soren surged up off the swing and came at him, trapping him against the handrail. “You have a choice, you stubborn man.” James shook his head. What choice? He’d spent the last two weeks coming up with this plan—there were no options. Soren leaned in and kissed him, hard and angry, his tongue invading James’ mouth. James raised his hands to Soren’s chest to shove him away, but instead his fingers curled into Soren’s beefy pecs. He groaned as his cock grew thick and hard, as Soren’s body pressed against him and he could feel Soren’s arousal. Soren broke the kiss, pressing his cheek against James’ as they both sucked in air. “I’m not going to let you live in a camper on the back of your truck.” “Really,” James said, his hands still fisted in Soren’s shirt. Soren’s hands were settled at James’ hips, gripping the guardrail. “Really. You’re moving in with me.” James swallowed. “I won’t be a kept man.” Soren leaned back far enough to look into James’ face. “Hm. I think I could have guessed that. What are your plans, then?” “I want to get my contracting license.”
118
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren nodded. “That’s a good start. Then what?” James swallowed and tried to focus on his thoughts, not Soren’s moist lips. “I want to start my own remodeling business. It’s something I’ve always loved doing.” Soren licked those lips, and James stifled a groan. “And how are you going to go about this? Working construction?” James nodded. “I figure, living out of the truck, I can do it in about a year.” Soren shook his head. “How long will it take you to get licensed?” James shrugged. “I’ll have to take the test and pay the fees. I haven’t even looked at the material yet.” “A lot less time than a year, though, right? If you didn’t have to work to get the money?” James saw where this was going, and that was when he did push Soren away. “No. No, I won’t take your money. I come from a long line of independent men. My grandfather made it through the depression cleaning ship bilges. No fucking way am I going to let you hand me anything. I work for what I have.” I just don’t happen to have anything right now, he silently added. “A loan then. I am a lawyer, after all. I could draw up all the papers. Standard interest to be paid back when you get on your feet. You live at my house, there’s no rent until you can afford it. At that time you start taking over a share of the bills.” Soren stepped closer. “I want you, James. I love you. Let me help you.” Panic pierced through James’ heart, and he turned around to lean against the guardrail. Love. Love a man. He did love Soren, but admitting it aloud? Moving in with him? Taking their relationship public? He glanced across the street to see Mrs. Bateman on her porch, rocking away in her rocking chair. She was staring right at him. She’d probably seen the kiss. Whatever she saw, it wasn’t exactly normal for two men to be standing so close together. Soren’s voice was very low and very close to his ear when he asked, “Have I read everything wrong? Did I just happen to be a dick when you decided to express your sexuality?”
119
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James swung around and came chest‐to‐chest with him. “No. God, no. You were—are...” He leaned in and kissed Soren, his brain too muddled with thoughts of love and worry over his future. Slowly, tenderly, he wrapped his arms around Soren’s shoulders and pressed his body against him. Soren returned the embrace, and James knew he was where he belonged. Soren had overcome his fear of intimacy for him. The least he could do was admit his own feelings. “I love you,” James whispered when he moved from Soren’s mouth to his jaw and neck. Soren’s arms tightened around him for an instant before he leaned back to look into his eyes. “Come live with me. Let me take care of you.” He grinned when James opened his mouth to argue. “Partners.” He kissed James’ stubbled cheek, then his chin, then pecked his lips. “We’ll take care of each other.” Soren’s hand slid down his side, then between them. He pressed his hand against James’ crotch. “And I think we should start right now.” James pulled away with a grin, grabbed Soren’s hand, and pulled him into the house to the only still furnished room. “The bed squeaks, but—” Soren grabbed him from behind and jerked open the button fly on his jeans. He bent him over at the waist, shoving his pants over his ass. James grabbed the edge of the bed for support. Excitement zinged through him. Soren fisted James’ cock, stroking hard and strong. “I’ve waited two long weeks for this, baby. Right now, I’m staking my claim.” Soren’s zipper opened with a loud rasp. James reared his head back with a cry of ecstasy as Soren slid home. “Yes!” “Mine,” Soren growled as he pumped into James over and over. James agreed. He belonged to Soren. He’d always belong to Soren.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton
Chapter Fourteen Eighteen months later... “A round on me!” Soren called to those sitting at the bar, pride welling through him as he threw his arm around James’ shoulders. “I’m so damn proud of you.” He gave James a hard kiss then reached in his pocket for the money to pay Tyrone. James grinned like a schoolboy, a little embarrassed by the attention if the color in his cheeks was any indicator, but Soren couldn’t help announcing it to the world. “I am, baby,” Soren said, whispering in his ear. “You’ve worked your ass off, and you did it.” James put his arms around Soren’s waist and embraced him. “I couldn’t have done it without you, without your support. I love you.” Lust shot through him, as it always did when James was within arms’ length. Kat and Dalton came up then, and Soren let go of James. “Congratulations,” Dalton said. “Garrett Storm informed me you’re a strong competitor of his, have been since the day you got your contractor’s license. Let’s keep it nice and friendly in the club, okay?” He chuckled, obviously joking. “Yes, Sir,” James said, that shit‐eating grin still plastered on his face. “Garrett’s actually been a lot of help getting me going, has even tossed a couple small jobs my way.”
121
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Kat nodded. “He’s a good man, as are you. I look forward to the bidding war the next time I need some work done on the club.” “Thank you, Mistress,” James said, executing a shallow bow and dropping his gaze in deference. She winked and tapped Soren on the shoulder with her riding crop. “And you are looking as proud as a peacock.” Throwing his arm around James’ shoulder, he pulled his lover against his side. “I’ve never been more proud of anyone.” He looked at James, snaring his gaze. “Or more in love.” The grin threatened to split James’ face. “Well, then,” Kat said, her smile small, but her eyes alight with humor. “The room you requested upstairs is reserved for you whenever you’d like it.” Soren gave a nod. “Thank you, Katriona.” When Dalton and Kat walked off, Soren laced his fingers through James’ and pulled him along to the stairs. “What room did you reserve?” “Hush, pet.” James fell silent and followed. Over the time they’d been together, they’d worked out their signals. As soon as Soren called James pet, the scene began. He’d found that James was too strong of a person, too self‐ reliant to be a full‐time pet as Vance had once been, but it was okay. In fact, their partnership was better, more fulfilling than he ever imagined it could be. Only in the bedroom did James submit. And damn, he loved it, especially since it seemed so juxtapose to James’ natural outer self. The transformation was beyond arousing. Soren grinned to himself as he led James down the long hallway to the last room. The room they’d first made love in. In the year and a half they’d been together, their sex life had expanded and grown, as had their love. Today, James opened a small storefront downtown, not far from where his family hardware store had been, which hosted his contracting business office. He’d even hired his first receptionist. Today was a special day, and Soren hoped he could make it even better.
122
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton He opened the door to the English garden and pulled James inside. He flicked the lock then leaned back against the door, letting his eyes adjust to the dimness. “Strip, pet,” he instructed, and James complied without hesitation. Mmm. He loved James’ body. Watching all that lean muscle shift and move beneath his resilient flesh made Soren’s cock grow hard without even a touch. The effect James had on his body never ceased to amaze him. Once James discarded his last article of clothing, he dropped to his knees, put his hands behind his back, and waited. Soren pushed away from the door and stepped around James to retrieve the bottle of champagne he’d ordered to be left chilling for them. He popped the cork and poured two glasses. “James,” he said softly as he set the glasses on the low, imitation wall near the bed. “Yes, my master?” James asked, his back to Soren as he kept his submissive pose. He began stripping off his own clothes. “Have you fully submitted your body to my will?” “Yes, Sir.” “Are you happy under my control?” “Very happy, Sir.” “How about outside of the bedroom? Are you happy with our life together as partners, as a couple when sex is not involved?” “Sir?” He started to turn, but caught himself and stopped. “Answer the question.” Soren had never outright asked James if he was content, and his hesitation in answering made Soren’s chest tighten with worry. “Yes, Sir. I love being with you. I love you. Have I not shown that I—” “I did not give you leave to ask questions.” James fell silent. Naked, Soren sat down in the middle of the sunken bed, holding the small, velvet box he’d been carrying for months. He’d never had the nerve to present it to James.
123
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton “Come here.” James turned and crawled over to the bed. He moved in front of Soren and resumed his position. “Look at me, baby.” James raised his head and met Soren’s gaze. “Sir?” Soren shook his head. “I asked the questions as your master because I know you’ve never lied to me during a scene. I knew you’d speak the truth. But now I need all of you, James. Not as my pet, but as my partner, my lover, my friend.” James moved forward, sat down next to him, and looked at him with those gorgeous dark eyes that smiled now more often than not. The sadness was gone, and Soren hoped he was partly responsible for that transformation. “What’s going on?” James asked. “You’re scaring the shit out of me.” He wrapped his arm around James. “I don’t want to scare you, and I chose here to do this because it’s where it all started for us. I don’t want you to think that I want you only because you satisfy me sexually, though.” James licked his lips. “Okay. What are you talking about?” “I love you. I hope I tell you enough.” James nodded. “And I, you.” Soren smiled. “I’ve never done this before, and now that I’m here I feel a little weird about it.” James’ shoulders slumped. “Come on, Soren, spit it out for God’s sake. You’re killing me.” Soren chuckled then leaned over and kissed him. “Okay.” He held out the velvet box. “Marriage between the likes of us still isn’t legal, but...” He shrugged. “I can’t see that you’d let me collar you, you’re a bit too independent for that, but I’d like you to wear a symbol that we’re...forever.” James looked down at the box, then in his eyes. “The box is too small for it to be a cock ring.” Soren laughed and slugged James in the arm. “Don’t be a smartass.
124
Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton I’m trying to be romantic here.” James kissed him. “I think it’s romantic every morning you have breakfast waiting for me. Every time you barbeque me a steak or ask me to take a Jacuzzi with you.” He shook his head, his smile soft and sweet. “But even without those extras, I love you, Soren. When I’m with you, I’m...at peace. Warm from the inside out. I know that no matter how far I fall, you’ll be there to catch me.” Soren wrapped his arms around his lover and laid him back on the bed, moving over him. “Then wear my ring. Let the world know you’re spoken for.” He took the box from James and flipped it open, then pulled out the simple platinum band. “Will you?” James nodded. “I will.” Soren slipped the ring onto James’ finger and kissed him slow and deep, their tongues twining and dueling, their cocks lengthening, hardening, and rubbing against each other’s as Soren lay over him. James’ hands were warm and slightly rough as they coasted over his back. Soren forked his fingers through James’ hair to hold him still so he could take the kiss even deeper. When he lifted his head, he looked down into James’ eyes as they tried to catch their breaths. “Hands over your head, pet.” James reached up, lacing his fingers together, and dropped his gaze. “Such a good pet.” “Thank you, Sir.” Soren scooted down James’ body, stopping to nibble on his pebbled nipples. James hissed through his teeth, and his hips rose a bit, but other than that, he remained still. He knew if he moved, he got cuffed, and James didn’t like to be physically restrained. He had a strong will, though, and Soren loved the control he maintained even as he submitted. Soren moved down his body, licking and biting until he reached James’ long, rock‐hard cock. “Mmm. My pet is a little horny tonight, I see.” James stifled a laugh, because he knew that would get him spanked.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Soren took James cock deep into his mouth and swallowed around the tip. James groaned and bucked. Soren sucked hard as he pulled away, and James panted. “My pet is such a good boy,” he said as he stroked James’ cock with long, tight pulls of his fist. Soren’s heart beat heavy in his chest as he realized what he wanted tonight, on this special night when James had committed to him. He wanted to return the commitment. Show James the trust he had in him. “I want you to take me,” Soren said, his throat tight with emotion. James lifted his head and looked right at him. “Sir?” Soren moved up James’ body once more and caught his lips. “Fuck me,” he said. “Take me. Make me yours as much as you are mine.” “But...” Soren pulled back and met James’ gaze. James lifted his arms and laid his hands against Soren’s cheeks. “You...I...” He smiled, warm and gentle, then reached to the side, to the short wall, and grabbed a condom and lubricant. “Like my first time then. Face‐to‐face.” Soren nodded. He reached for his champagne, downed the glass in one long swallow, then took the condom from James and rolled it on his lover. James applied the lubricant to his own cock, then put his hands back above his head and waited for Soren to make the next move. Soren hadn’t taken a dick up his ass in over twenty years. Not since he found he much preferred being the top, the one in charge. But he could do this for James, to show his trust and love. “Just this once,” he said in almost a growl as he positioned himself over James’ cock, guiding it to his anus. “You don’t have to, Soren. I know how much you love me. I don’t need proof.” James’ words made him all the more determined. “I need your hands on me, love. Stroke my cock.” James grabbed the lube and squirted some in his hand, then slowly, gently, palmed Soren’s dick. Soren relaxed and, as the arousal flowed through him, as he gazed into his lover’s eyes, he lowered himself onto

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton James’ cock. They both groaned at the intense pleasure, the tight fit. James rubbed Soren’s penis with strong, sure strokes. Soren needed more, though. He needed James’ lips on his, his arms around him. He leaned over, wrapped his arms around James, and captured his mouth with his, sinking his tongue deep as he rocked himself on James’ dick, their slick bodies providing exquisite friction on his cock. James grunted with each movement, and Soren felt his cock swell inside him. That’s it, my pet. That’s it. He thrust himself down hard, taking him to the hilt. James ripped his mouth from Soren’s and shouted as his hips pumped, his fingers digging into Soren’s shoulders. Soren came with a low groan, burying his face against James’ neck, holding his lover tight against him. When their breathing slowed, Soren rolled to the side. “I’m getting too old for that,” he said as he stretched his leg and his knee popped. James chuckled, his breaths still labored. “You’re just used to me being the one on my knees.” Soren reached over and tweaked James’ nipple hard enough to make him jerk. “Don’t be impertinent, or I’ll have to punish you.” With a snort, James rolled over and grabbed the full champagne glass. He offered it to Soren first, like a good pet, but then downed it in a gulp when Soren shook his head. “Another romantic gesture?” James asked, holding up the empty glass. Soren grinned. “I tried.” “Stick with beer next time.” He leaned over and kissed Soren then, his lips tart with the taste of the sparkling wine. “In fact, why don’t you stay here, catch your breath, and I’ll go down to the bar and get a couple?” “Good plan,” Soren said, but caught James’ hand when he would have stood up. “What?” James asked. Soren looked at him for a long minute. “You’ve made me very happy, James. Until you came into my life, I didn’t know it was possible.

Incognito: Soren’s Surrender by Anna Leigh Keaton Thank you for trusting me.” James leaned over him and kissed him again. Then he stood up, went to the towel warmer, and pulled out a couple, tossing one to Soren before swiping the other over his chest and stomach. Then he pulled on his jeans and T‐shirt. As he opened the door, he turned back. “I almost forgot one other piece of news I got today.” Soren leaned up on his elbow and frowned. What more could there be? “Pop came by my office today to check it out—he took a taxi, if you can believe that.” James grinned. “We’ve got a wedding to attend next weekend. He and Wanda are tying the knot.” Soren flopped back down with a laugh as James shut the door. “I’ll be damned,” he said as he stared up at the imitation stars. “Everyone got their happy ending—or is it new beginning?” The End
