New Enhanced BS-BU Calibration for Version 8.1 Introduction For WALKair 1000 10.5 GHz systems, a flat response is sometimes observed for the output power against frequency curve. The flatness is most pronounced for wide frequency spans (not adjacent frequencies). This phenomenon occurs only on the downlink, and the actual output power can be either slightly higher or lower than the configured output power. WALKair 1000 Version 8.1 includes enhanced calibration for the BS-BU in order to prevent such output power variations.
New Enhanced BS-BU Calibration for Version 8.1
Enhanced Calibration Scenarios The following typical sector scenarios illustrate the implications of the enhanced BS-BU calibration feature: Addition of a Version 8.1 BS-BU to a pre-Version 8.1 WALKair 1000 Sector Software upgrade of an existing WALKair 1000 Sector to Version 8.1 Replacement of a pre-Version 8.1 BS-BU with a Version 8.1 BS-BU
Addition of a Version 8.1 BS-BU to a pre-Version 8.1 WALKair 1000 Sector If a Version 8.0 BS-BU is added to an existing sector, enhanced BS-BU calibration can be applied without influencing other BS-BU in the sector.
Software Upgrade of an existing WALKair 1000 Sector to Version 8.1 If an existing WALKair 1000 sector is upgraded to Version 8.1, a change in transmission output after enhanced calibration may influence radioplanning parameters for high-density deployments. However, if unwanted changes occur after applying enhanced BS-BU calibration, the feature parameter may be reset to the original configuration. The calibration parameter is set by default to “disable” after upgrading the unit to version 8.1. In this case, the upgrade does not change the current settings.

Replacement of a pre-Version 8.1 BS-BU with a Version 8.1 BS-BU If a pre-Version 8.1 BS-BU is replaced with a Version 8.1 BS-BU (so that there are at least two versions operating in the sector), a change in transmission output after enhanced BS-BU calibration may influence radio-planning parameters for high-density deployments. However, if unwanted changes occur when applying enhanced BS-BU calibration, the feature may be reset to the original configuration.
Applying Enhanced Calibration To apply enhanced BS-BU calibration via the LCI: 1. Connect the BS-BU to a monitor via the LCI connector. 2. In the LCI Maintenance Menu, select option 5 (Modem Maintenance Menu), and set the “Set RFU New Calibration Status” parameter to Enable (the default value is Disable).
